When I first sat down with Eduardo expecting to quickly relay my ideas for a logo, I hadn't expected to share my career plans with him. Colors, concepts, and visual graphics became incidental as we shared life experiences, discussed career paths, and labored through several iterations of the logo--I was a picky client, frequently asking how the graphic would turn out if we tweaked the colors or lines a certain way. Eduardo would willingly oblige with his characteristic response, "there's only one way to find out!" I haven't worked with many graphic designers but I'm certain that there aren't many like Eduardo Norell who truly makes the effort and time to understand what the customer wants and is also competent, genuine, and inspirational. I will gladly work with Norell Designs again.

Platinum Designs is amazing!! I had my wedding cards done by them. From my very first phone call until I got my invitation cards in the mail, Nancy was super helpful and responsive. She custom made us a 4 layer card. It just looks ravishing. This card was complex and required some additinal work with gold layering. The finished product looks fantastic and better than what I expected. I love the cards so much and I can't wait to send this to my guest. Nancy is also very accomodating to what you want. She also gives professional advice when you are not sure. I would recommend them whole heartedly. Thanks to Nancy and Platinum Designs. God Bless!

When I hired Sharon Hocking to come in and do a complete Interior Design of our Living and Dinning Rooms I had no idea just how wonderful this experience would be. Sharon was excellent to work with and listened to all of my concerns, ideas and suggestions. She was very communicative and prompt when we would set up meetings. Her attention to detail is beyond anything else I could have done on my own. Because I still work full time Sharon was able to do all of the leg work and then some. The next time I get ready to do some more decorating in my home Sharon will be the first and only Interior Designer that I will hire.

John Rank helped with remodeling our basement. It was a major job that included changing a large crawl space into a living room. It took about 12 weeks to complete. John is great to work with. He is very organized and keeps everything running smoothly. He is very good at keeping engineers. individual contractors and inspectors coming/going on schedule. He kept us informed of any issues that came up. The quality of work is great - we are so happy with the finished area, especially the built in cabinetry that John did himself. The only thing that could have been better is to have more time to order specific finishes and to be more involved in the design of the entertainment center.

Excellent, across the board. Very pleased with the service and final product. Couldn't be happier. I hired Markon Brands to fix and finalize my company website. Originally I had hired another web designer to do this, but met only with foot dragging, mediocre product, and in the end a request for more money to finish it. Out of frustration, I turned to Thumbtack and found these folks. They were very friendly, helpful. And quick. They greatly improved my website, added extras and helpful suggestions, and were a pleasure to work with. To top it off, I also view their services as an excellent value for the dollars spent. No joke, if you're looking for professional web design and marketing, look no further than this group. They can do the job quickly and are easy to work with, and their final product will exceed your expectations. Doubly so if you're a smaller company with a limited budget. Top value and great experience. Can't recommend high enough. 5 stars fully earned. Thank you Kristine and Mike!

I have worked with Jen for over 10 years. She has designed, sewed and installed blinds, curtains, and cushions for me. She has helped me with projects that were more complex such as creating a sunbrella cover for a tennis shed and designing a window cover for a very large and strangely shaped bay window. She is creative, detail oriented, and responsive to my needs and style. She finishes her jobs on time, on budget and is reasonably priced. She has a great eye for style and color. And the final product is always beautifully done. I love working with Jen and I love the work that she does!

I first met Marlene during a designer consult for our northern California great room. We worked together on colors, upholstery, window treatment designs and overall room décor. Marlene was able to help me discover the perfect design aesthetic that I had been searching for! Marlene exquisitely transformed this oversized room with both utility and style. With Marlene’s expertise, personal creative discoveries emerged...something that would have been impossible without her gentle and supportive guidance. Thank you Marlene, for your wisdom and know-how. I am forever grateful.

From the first initial consultation I knew immediately I wanted to work with Skyline. We met up with Jacob and Brian. They answered all of my questions, explained new concepts to me, and suggested great ideas. Skylines own website looked very professional and well made and that was very reassuring to me. Olivias design was exactly what I was looking for. She really listened to what I wanted and created a website which was beautiful, easy to navigate, informative but not overwhelming. Through out the entire process, I received outstanding communication about what stage we were in, and any question or concern was answered in an extremely timely fashion. Very pleased with the service I have received and definitely look forward to working with them some more!

Lindsay brought us to where we needed to go with our small business. We were confident with our menu items but the missing link was the design that fit our (admittedly picky) needs. Lindsay went above and beyond with her work. As a designer, she was able to offer input into all design aspects of our business; from logo to menu to website--even to aprons and stickers! She answered every question and request that we had with prompt and she was always there when we needed help. Since we have launched, we have gotten only compliments on the fresh look of our business's website and logo designs. We are extremely happy with what Lindsay put out for us--so happy that we even have a stack of her business cards on our food cart. We cannot recommend her enough and will definitely work with her in our future endeavors.

With a great price point, they came in with quality materials, knowledge and builders. Polite, energetic and always cleaned up nice after each day of the job! They took down a wall, leveled, spackled and replaced old lights and run with new lights and a beautiful floor. Very responsive and they use local materials and employment for both WA and OR.

Michelle helped create the perfect backyard space for us. We had an idea of what we wanted but not a good vision of how to transform what existed into what we wanted. In the design process Michelle helped us to think more broadly and to help the indiviual ideas we had flow into a congruent space. She listened to our ideas, made suggestions, added her own experience and developed a plan that we became very excited about. Then, as the project progressed, Michelle was there interacting with the landscapers and builders to make sure the plan was followed and that good decisions were made when unforeseen circumstances arose. Mostly I couldn't be there when the work was happening but I had great confidence that Michelle would be there when necessary to make knowledgeable suggestions and decisions that would insure a great outcome. We couldn't be happier with our new outdoor space and our decision to work Michelle. I would highly recommend her services for if you have high expectations for professionalism and for the final outcome of your project. Michelle has the experience, skills, and vision to make sure it happens for you. We are so grateful for what she did for us.

It was a pleasure working with Zach! I was looking to upgrade my fireplace, mantle. I had a vision for the space to include raw wood, tile and floating shelves. I met with Zach and described my desire for the space. He presented me with multiple sketches within a few days to a week. I chose what I liked from a few sketches and Zach was able to design a great focus wall for my space. I would highly recommend Zach Freund. He was very professional, caring. His creativity and knowledge were plentiful.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo is an easily identifiable, memorable image that represents your brand. A good logo design aligns with your business model and expresses your company’s core values. A good logo design is simple, appealing, and easy for customers and viewers to quickly process. Some of the key components of a great logo are type, color palette and design. The scale, font and arrangement of the text you select will all make a difference in the feel and representation of your brand. A graphic designer will help you home in on the colors that best represent your identity and help you keep the color palette simple. The design of your logo includes the shapes you select and the way the color and type are arranged together. Investing in the services of a professional to create your logo design is likely a smart investment for any size business. Nationally, the average price range for a logo designer ranges from $170 to $250.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
