It was great working with Travis. He is a very detail oriented trainer who cares about helping you get the results you want and will push you to your limit to help you get there. He knows that you need a well rounded workout routine to reach your goals, and makes sure to switch it up not only to work each muscle group and continue from hitting a plateau in your weight loss goals, but so that you don't get bored! The only issue I had working with Travis, was that after months of working towards my goals, I began to lose some motivation, and stopped making as much success. I felt that Travis could have given me some baby step smaller goals to help me get back to where I needed to be to have success, but each session we would work out, and I would go home, feeling good about the workout, but knowing I wasn't fully committed anymore. Maybe Travis could, in the future, help set smaller goals with his clients if they begin to lose motivation, even if that means giving "homework" and consistently checking in each session. Overall, I am very happy I worked with Travis, and feel that my time with him has drastically changed not only my body and my weight loss, but my entire way of thinking about health, diet, and exercise. It's truly a lifestyle choice to work out and eat right and be a healthier you, and it's one I am happy to take part in, thanks to Travis Baker!

Lisa and her team are knowledgeable, professional, reliable and fun! I always look forward to my workout... which is adapted to how my body is doing that day... so I come away feeling safely challenged. The results have been great; I have lost 30+ pounds, improved my cardio fitness, flexibility and strength. As a former PE teacher, coach and nurse I can attest to the effectiveness of their holistic approach. My 77 year-old mom is now getting training from Evolve, too.

Tammy was a wonderful addition to the team of caregivers providing support to my father; he was recently diagnosed with stage 4 primary liver cancer and was estimated with 2-4 weeks to live. Since we’ve moved him to hospice, he’s lost strength and become very foggy. Tammy rearrranged her scheduled when we expressed fear that he may not be alive three days from now, showed up to the hospice on time, and my father - in the middle of the session and for the first time in days - opened his eyes wide and introduce himself to her. We will undoubtedly bring her back into our care circle, and can’t express our gratitude for her work enough.

Aaron is knowledgeable, dedicated to growth, and an excellent teacher. He not only has an great workout plan each time I train, but he explaines the science and anatomy aspects thoroughly which I appreciate. He pushes me hard when I need it; he coaches nutritional plans in a very methodical fashion as well.

I came to Jaylen overweight and experiencing knee pain from an old high school volleyball injury. We trained for roughly six months together. At the end of the six months, I had lost 40 pounds. Jaylen is an excellent teacher and a great motivator. There were times when I felt like giving up, but he just wouldn’t quit on me. Most importantly, he created a lifestyle change within me. One that didn’t just center on health and fitness of the body, but that also cultivated a better mindset and a healthier outlook on life. I highly recommend using Jaylen as your personal trainer. It can change your life.

It's been an absolute pleasure working with Scott! From day one he's exhibited professionalism, tremendous energy, and the ability to custom tailor workouts to achieve my noteably aggressive goals. I came to Scott already in good shape having spent a great deal of time in the gym. I was looking to mix things up, and learn new ways to push myself. You can tell how much Scott enjoys what he does. It comes through every day in the gym. He was always eager and excited to throw new challenges my way. His knowledge of health and fitness shined each time he broke down a new exercise for me, walking through the form, the muscles impacted, and the desired result. As someone with a passion for fitness and already solid baseline of knowledge, I was blown away with how much I was able to take away from each session. I can emphatically say that my sessions with Scott were a success! I highly recommend him to folks at any fitness level that are trying achieve new fitness and health goals. Thank you Scott!!

Doug and I met while I was coaching at one of the top high school cross country programs in the state of Oregon. I had an injured athlete that he spent some time working on to get him healthy. That was the beginning of a 10 year relationship with the athletes that I have coached as well as my family of athletes. Doug's ability to find the root cause of the issue and work to a solution was the best we have found. Doug's technique and effectiveness created a verb by those that he worked on. My body is not functioning the right way...I need to be "Dulaked". Doug had a great following in Portland and when he moved to Arizona one of our athlete resource possee was gone. I highly recommend Doug in his practice.

I’ve attended Kim’s boot camp and running camp and know many who have worked with her as their professional trainer. We all continue to work with Kim because she pushes us to reach for that higher level, she coaches and instructs us in a knowledgeable and patient way, and she makes it enjoyable because of her upbeat and genuine personality. I’ve seen her work well with all shapes, sizes, ages, physical capabilities and customizes the work outs perfectly while keeping everything flowing. She is the consummate trainer!

243. The number flashed on the scale, staring me right in my bewildered face. I stepped off the scale, tapped it with my big toe, and stepped back on. 243. I stepped off the scale and shook my head in bewilderment. How did I let this happen? How did I slip this far? I had thought my face looked round mere moments ago in that family photo, but 243…this was a disaster. A disclaimer… I have struggled with my weight and body image my entire life. I am not, nor was I ever, the most athletic individual. I swam competitively for a number of years, and I took a number of dance classes in college, but athletic is an adjective I would never use to describe my physical ability. Back to 243... From that moment on, I made myself a promise. I would change. I would take my insecurities and confront them head on. I would become athletic. Bolstered by this determination, I began the tedious process of vetting a gym. At the time, I was working downtown at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, so finding a gym close to work was crucial. After some preliminary online research, I grabbed my co-worker for moral support and trekked down the block to Gold’s Gym. Shannon, my fearless cohort, was already a member of Gold’s Gym and urged me to join after our tour of this gleaming tower of physical perfection. Needless to say, I signed on the dotted line. I was a member of a gym. It was time to shed the pounds and increase my self-determined self-worth. I adopted a new mantra: Your dreams only work if you do. The next day I had scheduled my free fitness assessment with someone named Brittany. I arrived, changed into my workout clothes, and checked in at the front desk, nervous, anxious, and ready to run out the door. Seconds later, I was greeted by a girl in a red trainer’s t-shirt with her name printed across her heart and black workout shorts. She stuck out her hand, shook mine, and took me upstairs to take my measurements and learn more about my fitness and personal goals. Little did I know that this fitness assessment would be more than just assessing my then lack of physicality. It would be the foundation and formation of a friendship and mutual support system. We clicked instantly. Brittany possessed the right amount of sass and drive to whip me into shape and encourage me every step of the way. Immediately after the assessment I signed up for three months of personal training, twice a week with Brittany. Fast-forward nine months later. I was strong. I was confident. I was athletic. Brittany had completely changed my life for the best. I was at my gym 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day before and after work, taking boot camp classes, swimming, lifting, and doing yoga. Brittany had taught me that physical fitness was more than just lifting weights, it was nutrition, it was mental health, it was finding an inner balance. She taught me that fitness is a journey, with twists and turns along the way. That we have good days and bad, and we can assess each as it comes and not stray from the goals ahead. She helped me realize my potential and pushed me to meet it. The moment I met Brittany my life changed. Through her friendship, she helped me discover that I could do anything I set my mind to. Your dreams only work if you do, so it’s time to keep working.

First, Rose showed me how to let go of my fears and worries. Then she taught me to concentrate on my talents. Now I apply for jobs I really want instead of ones that just pay the bills. She lifted a big burden off my shoulders. Thank you, Rose!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
