Cortez is your man. Promptly responds to your request. When you meet him he instills confidence he knows what he is doing. He does professional work. While he is a journeyman painter he is very knowledgeable about construction. He comes from a family of contractors, his father being a roofing contractor. His pricing is very competitive and his product first rate. Try him and you too will be recommending him to others.

I had 3 other contractors bid for my roofing job. One was less and two were more expensive. The cheaper one didn't provide as good of quality of materials or warrantee. The ones that cost more were identical products. besides being more competitively priced, the differences were that Giron had a better cost for additional sheets if they needed to be replaced and he was willing to work with me in dropping off sheeting ahead of time so I could prime it. The work went as scheduled and was completed on time. I did find that one original sheet around the edge of my roof that had rot in it had been missed. I called and they came out and replaced it very quickly. I am sure it was an honest mistake since they warrant there work. It happened to be where the ladder they were using to get up on our roof was placed and from the top it looked fine. I would recommend them to family and friends.

After 35 years we needed a new roof, Altas Roofing came through like a Champ! Excellent to work with, great price and quality of work we couldn't have been happier with. Our new roof gave the house the look we wanted. Altas Roofing is the only name you need to know when you need a roof. Ask for Ramiro, he is the man you want to work with. The Caseys

I used Thumbtack, Angie's list, and Home Advisor to get referrals for roofing contractors. I contacted at least 8 contractors to gather as much information as I could from each inspection and estimate, and relied on customer satisfaction to help me decide. Ray from Royce Roofing completed my inspection and provided me an estimate. His bid included all the specific tasks that were necessary to repair my roof ( Chimney flashing, new vents for bathroom fans, no flashing around edge, etc.) and included pictures of my roof and the areas that needed repairs. We signed our contract and Ray started the project one week later. He was on the job every day, and completed the whole project in 2 days with his crew. Great Workmanship!

From the first contact through to the completed roof I felt very confident that Lohner Construction cared about their customers and provided a quality product. Being retired, I was able to hang around and observe while they replaced my roof. My questions and concerns were quickly answered and every crew member was very courteous. I noticed that the crew worked together seamlessly and when one needed some extra help for something it seemed like someone else was watching and stepped in to assist then resumed their own task. They started out laying down tarps to protect plants around the house and to catch any debris that came off the roof. All the old roofing was carefully carried and dropped into a trailer off one corner of the house. At the end of the project they also double checked around the house to catch anything that might have ended up on the ground and ran a magnet over the area to capture any nails that fell. While re-roofing the house they also replaced a leaky skylight and installed some fascia boards I had ready for them. Lohner Construction's bid was not the least expensive bid I received but I felt more confidence in their professionalism and quality than the others which was very evident while watching them work. I highly recommend Lohner Construction for any roofing project you may have.

From the start the entire project went smoothly. It started off with a quick response to set things up and then flexibility on scheduling what with all of the rain we had last week. Then the crew showed up and was very friendly and went straight to work as fast as they could. Never seen a crew hustling like that - IMPRESSIVE! Then they knocked the work out in just over an hour and were on their way leaving me with a fixed roof and a clean job site. Will definitely call again for any future roofing need, since this team did such a GREAT JOB!

They are trustworthy, easy to work with, punctual and always do the job right the first time. I don’t make a lot of recommendations on services, but I will recommend Rick Sutter Builders.

I have numerous rental units around the Portland metro area and I have used David throughout the years. David is thorough, personable and reasonable with his rates especially since there are always adds to the "basic" jobs. David has performed various jobs ranging from roofing, shed building, siding, painting (always with turnovers) and complete kitchen and bath remodels. David has been resourceful as he takes his work home by shopping for the best deals for me and always works with my budget limits. Can't go wrong with David. It helps that he is college educated (masters degree I think) and is presentable unlike some contractors that I have hired. All in all you can't go wrong with David and I was happy that he asked me to write this review for him.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
