Mike was very responsive to my RFQ and his telephone follow-up. He arrived to the job site on time and immediately began to diagnose why our AC compressor was not functioning. He switched the common wire on the thermostat and blower controller board and he replaced a blown fuse on the controller board. Although the above repairs were needed to get the controller board functioning, again, the AC compressor was still not kicking in. After some additional probing and running voltage checks at the compressor, Mike concluded that I had a blown circuit breaker. I purchased a new and replaced the circuit breaker myself (Mike is not a licensed electrician) and still nothing. I called Mike to let him know the situation and he said he would swing back by my house to take another look. He arrived shortly after and ran additional voltage tests at the compressor electrical shut-off outside the house. He concluded I had a wiring problem in the house and I needed to call a licensed electrician. The following day, I was successful in getting another HVAC Technician to come out to diagnose why the AC compressor was not kicking on. The second Technician did a more thorough job of probing the wiring to the compressor low and high voltage switch and he discovered one of the two wires to that switch had gotten hot enough to make the insulation on the wire very brittle and in fact, the copper strands of the wire under that brittle area were actually fractured. Therefore, no electrical contact to the compressor low and high voltage switch. After stripping the insulation back on both wires, replacing the connectors, plugging the wires back onto the switch, the compressor kicked right on. I called Mike to let him know what another Technician had done to fix my system - I did not need the new breaker switch nor did I need to hire an electrician. And, I also shared that although Mike looked at the wiring to the low and high voltage switch, if he would have just probed / wiggled those wires, he would have found my problem, just as the second Technician did. I also shared with Mike that I not only paid him for his service call, but I had to pay the second Technician an overtime charge + the cost of the repair. Mike did not offer to provide me with any compensation (e.g. partial refund for his charge; split the cost of the OT charge that I had to pay the second Technician, etc.).
