Very professional, high-quality movers. The best we've found in 30 years!! They arrived on time and with pleasant attitudes. They packaged everything extra carefully, ensuring no damage to the items being moved or the rooms themselves. They even managed to coordinate chunky furniture through narrow hallways without a scratch to the walls. They worked quickly and efficiently, finishing earlier than we expected. A 5 star recommendation!!!

These guys did a great job with the move, and at such a reasonable price! Previous movers we've had have been more expensive, and broken some of our things. Not these guys!

503 are seriously the greatest movers! They had the best price, were so easy to communicate with and had a spot-on estimate. They answered all my questions prior to booking promptly and their estimate matched their actual timing and cost. They showed up 20 minutes early which was awesome. Once they started moving they didn't stop. I have never seen hustle like that before! So strong and so quick! They were meticulous packers and everything was transported safely and smoothly. They wrapped delicate items with supplies they provided. When our dining set wouldn't fit out the front door, they disassembled it in a matter of minutes with tools they were prepared with. They happily moved extra items that I hadn't planned on moving, they made an extra stop at our storage unit and unloaded stuff there and perfectly packed our storage unit before heading to our final destination, all for no extra charge. They didn't charge extra for mileage. They didn't charge for the extra stops. They didn't charge extra for supplies. They didn't charge extra for busting their asses for two hours up and down our million stairs and super steep driveway. They didn't charge extra for their awesome, friendly, go above and beyond attitudes. We are seriously SO impressed. I'm going to refer all my friends and family to 503 Moving because they are INCREDIBLE!!!! Thanks Larry and 503!!! You guys are awesome!

WOW!!!!! These guys were great! They did what they said they would do. When they said they would do it. And it cost exactly what they said it would cost. (no hidden fees or costs) The cost for moving our three story house items was about one third of the cost of the big movers for a long distance move. We would recommend them to anybody in a minute. If we could give them more than 5 stars, we would.

I hired Cherish movers to unload a 20 Ft pod. They arrived on time, laid a red carpet to protect the floors, asked where we wanted everything, worked efficiently, and were friendly & polite. I highly recommend Cherish Movers. Plus they are so reasonably priced. I am so pleased with these folks!

Honest, professional, and affordable. I can't say enough good things about CASTRO. In the past I've used other movers that were not honest and the price they would quote you would suddenly go up during the move. Michael quoted me a price, and assured me that the price would not go up unless I asked for additional supplies and/or services during the move. Michael was true to his word. His team took great care with my furniture and were very professional. Michael was in contact me from the first interaction all the way through to the end of the move. You can trust Castro Movers to do a great job with your move as well. Thank you.

Hernandez and Juan moved most of our heavy belonging out of our house in the 5 hours that we hired them for. I would recommend using Hernandez to a friend as they worked quickly and carefully. One bummer though, we overpaid him and he could have noticed it. Our agreement was supposed to be 350 and we paid him 400. Then I I payed him another 40 for a tip. That would have been a good opportunity to realize we paid enough already with the 400. This is what happens when both you and your partner square up with the movers.

Best experience I have ever had with movers. Arrived on time, they worked very fast, and very efficiently. They got finished so fast, that they moved some other items for us in the house. They were extremely careful with our furniture and other items. I would recommend Oregon Trail Moving Services to anyone wanting a professional group of movers, at a value price!

It was a simple moving job. The movers were okay not the best but again you get what you pay for. West Coast Moving are hands down the best movers but they are twice as expensive too. The only thing I wasn't happy about is the main guy kept saying he has used some of his boxes but he was not going to charge us for it as if he was doing us a favor. But in reality we packed everything and every single box was ours. The guy repeated this statement at least 3 times. At the end when he was writing the invoice he said the same thing and to top that he showed me a list of things tapes etc and said that he had used 60 but was only going to charge us for 40. Based on the boxes experience I knew I could not trust this statement. Being honest is big for me. I still gave them a tip as we moved in winter and it was cold when these guys were moving furniture.

Had my 7 piece bed delivered by Will and Dalton from PDX Movers. They were extremely professional, careful and efficient. They carried all 7 pieces of furniture up to 3rd floor. They are very careful not to snag any walls or scratch the hard wood floors. They were very courteous, took off their shoes in the house not to drag any dirt. Overall they were very friendly and was a pleasure to deal with. I would highly recommend PDX Movers and especially the movers themselves Will and Dalton!

Mike and his team were absolutely awesome! They arrived on time and worked the entire day for me. They wrapped all of my furniture with blankets, protected my floors with red carpet and even had these special door pads to cover our front door! They were extremely effiecient and worked in the blazing heat! My overall experience was just amazing. They’re very affordable for the work they do. My last move, I paid double the price per hour and the movers weren’t even half as good. I’ll defiantly be using this crew again if I ever plan on moving in the future.

These guys are amazing! I had a mess of a garage and no idea where to even start. Willy, as he asked me to call him, sent over two guys that were ready to go right away. Unfortunately I wasn't until they suggested ways they could do it for me. That week I left my house open for them to come when they had time. I was blown away at what they accomplished in a day and I don't know how they made any money from my job as they have me an amazing price. They made me feel like part of the family and I truly appreciate that as much, if not more than the amazing job they did. I'm not moving anytime soon but when I need my furniture removed to buy new or anything else they can do I'll use them for sure. Give these guys a try, you won't regret it, on time, very respectful and trustworthy, these guys are amazing and I'm not sure I've met the entire crew but I've had the pleasure to meet a few of them and they're all really great. Thank you ago much IKS, Willy, Clinton, Kawika, Rocky, Utu and all the guys I have yet to meet. As you said to me, mahalo and aloha.

Professional, friendly, energetic and efficient! I HIGHLY recommend these movers. This company provided service to my wife and I through and through from the very first phone call to even after the move was completed. The company provided us a free in home walkthrough and discussed a plan` for our move then helped us compare quotes and services. At times there were cheaper services which they admitted, but overall Precision was the best choice. On the day of the move the crew arrived a little early, energetic and personable. They entered into our home, confirmed the plan and then got straight to work. They communicated so well with one another and continuously allowed for us to make small changes to the way we preferred for things to occur. The loading was done in a good amount of time and the truck was packed efficiently and tightly. At our new home the unload was done promptly as they moved each piece pf furniture into the desired position and angle we wanted each piece of furniture. They even allowed for my wife to have them try the furniture in different positions to see what would work best for our new home. A week later we needed more items moved around the house in which we could not move ourselves. These gentleman came and repositioned the furniture again at no cost. It is very apparent that this company is passionate about providing great customer service and keeping customers for life.

Affordable moving was great! I was looking for a low-cost option for a move from my first floor studio apartment to a third floor one bedroom (no elevator) within the same building, so I didn't need a truck. Also, I didn't have a lot to move, nor anything particularly heavy, just needed some help with the bulky bed and loveseat, etc. They were running a little late (half an hour), but texted to let me know, which I appreciated. Once they arrived (two movers), they got to work and we moved nonstop for a little over two hours. The movers were friendly and affable, as well as competent. I have yet to see a scratch on anything. They also helped me take apart some of the old furniture I'd stained, so it was tricky to separate. As I said above, I didn't use their truck, so I'm unable to speak to that. Also, I mostly had them move bulky furniture, so I have no idea what kind of moving supplies they can provide (boxes, padding, etc.) My experience overall was excellent, and I highly recommend them!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
