Chelsea was great! I asked her to give me a vintage look for my wedding and she did just that. My makeup was flawless and simple. My hair was beautiful and the look lasted all night, even through working up a sweat on the dance floor! I definitely recommend her.

I used her for both my wedding trial makeup and wedding day. On trial day, I wasn't sure what I wanted so I ended up with glam makeup, which was really nice but not quite what I was looking for. On my wedding day, all I asked for was a softer look and it was beautiful! She considered how my hair was and what my dress looked like and matched the look perfectly. I have some skin issues and she was careful about making sure everything was covered, and even asked how my skin was doing the next day after the trial. Very professional and friendly!

Tara was recommended to me by my stylist for wedding makeup. From my first interaction with her, she was warm, friendly and professional. She was very responsive and helpful. Tara did a great job of listening to what I wanted and developing a look that worked well for me through our trial. On the big day she did a fantastic job on my look as well as my bridesmaids and mother. I loved the way I looked in the moment and in the photos after. I was also delighted by how well my makeup wore. Even in the last photos of the night, it still looked great. Tara has great energy, she inspires confidence and is fun to be around!

Jamie did makeup and hair for my wedding! She was lovely and kind, patient and friendly. I don't wear much makeup regularly, so I wanted a bright and natural look. She listened to all of my concerns and did a wonderful job. She also makes her own makeup line, which was very good on my skin. I fell asleep without washing my face and there were no breakouts! Even in the 95 degree heat and an outdoor wedding, her hair and makeup held up wonderfully :) If you want a great listener and professional artist, Jamie is the one.

Catherine did my makeup for my wedding last Friday. I would have died with out her! She did an amazing job, was so friendly. Has great prices, she even came to me! Was a doll and even did one of my bridesmaid's makeup for free. I had never met her before my big day but she felt like a best friend, she helped me out more then just makeup. Calmed my nerves, helped with my hair, stayed with my up until seconds before I walked down the isle. Gave me a little confidence boost before sending me off. She was more then a makeup artist, she was my lifesaver! Thanks again love.

I meet Cedar at her home for a pre wedding trial for both hair and make-up. I definitely recommend doing a pre trial as we found out what exactly we needed to keep my make-up and hair in place. On my wedding day Cedar was early and got me ready right on time.Cedar was so sweet and loving to both my self and family. She even went out of her way to get my lil ones hair done. I thank her from the bottom of my heart and I definitely recommend Cedar for any occasion.

Beth did an amazing job on my wedding makeup. I've been to a lot of weddings as a bridesmaid or just as a guest for friends and family and had my makeup done by a lot of different artists, but Beth was by far the best. Her attention to detail is really what caught the eye. I loved that the makeup she did was subtle, and not over the top which is much easier to do. Subtle and beautiful. I would happily recommend her to anyone looking for a wonderful wedding makeup artist!

Working with Claire was a delight! Not only did she do a fantastic job with a really nice natural looking look but she's a joy to talk with while she's working, I've had my makeup done a couple times before but they always made my colors a little too dark especially on my pale skin and eyebrows. However, Claire was very considerate with her choice in colors for me and I really enjoyed my experience with her. 20/10 would recommend!

I had an amazing experience with CruBeauty. She was attentive, she was fun, she was everything I was hoping for in a makeup artist. I normally do my own makeup so I was super hesitant to let someone else do it, but Cristina made me feel so comfortable it was like she was the one doing my makeup all along! I wouldn’t even consider anyone else when I have someone I can trust 100% now. HIGHLY recommend.

As a photographer, it was nice to work with an experienced polite makeup artist. She's really talented, quick, and her work is outstanding. She's super friendly and funny which is a nice change compared to other short tempered and ego driven artists I've worked with in the past. 5 stars, I'll work with her on my next shoot without a doubt.

Shawna is the artist who did my bridal hair and makeup for my wedding. Shawna was a consummate professional from the start of the process through my last touch up and I would give her 10 stars if I could. She is highly skilled and crafted the perfect hair and makeup combination for the wedding. In fact, it felt like she knew what I wanted/needed better than I did! The hair and makeup presented beautifully in the pictures and I would not have changed a thing. Shawna was patient, kind, and helped keep the morning before my wedding very calm. It was like having a friend with amazing skills do my hair and makeup! If you are looking for someone to make you look like the best version of yourself on your wedding day, you should book Shawna or a member of the Lux team!

Kosar did my wedding day make-up. We did a trial first at my house to determine the look I wanted, and then she did my make-up at my wedding venue the day-of. She has a lot of great make-up she selects from, but also since I buy Mac makeup we were able to use some of mine as well. I prefer a natural look and took comfort knowing my favorite lipstick and a few of the colors I normally wear, I'd have on for my wedding day. Kosar is a pro, she knows how to contour beautifully. She also knows how to use the right amount so your look is elegant in person and also gives allows you to look great for the camera. She did a great job listening to what I wanted. She also understood the timing required to get make-up completed on your wedding day, such that I could relax for my hair and then the make-up. My eye make-up and all around look was stunning and I was so pleased to have her there helping me on my big day!

        About

Hello and welcome! I'm so excited to share my story and passion with you. I began my career in beauty unexpectedly seven years ago working with industry-leading brands like Smashbox, Christian Dior, and MAC. The world of cosmetics challenged me and intrigued me, and the more I learned, the deeper I loved my work and the further I chased my beauty education. I sought out the world's most renowned artists to learn from and guide me. My passion stemmed not from the glitter and the gloss (although those are loads of fun!) but from the smiles and tears from my lovely clients. The makeup experience is deeply personal and intimate, each client comes to me with their own insecurities and hopes, and I take so much pride in my ability to bring my expertise in harmony with your vision to create artful and customized beauty. I enjoy the versatility in my work, whether it's pampering a bride on her most memorable day, or working with a team of creatives to breathe life into their art. It is a blessing to love what I do, and I truly can't wait to work with you!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

        • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
        • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
        • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
        • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
        • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

        • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
        • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
        • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
        • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
        • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
        • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
        • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
