Introduction: Pro musician turned DJ to meet the needs of those wanting both Live and DJ'd music.
Maria had always dreamt of a beach wedding ceremony with a live ukulele performer, followed by a DJ for her reception. The problem was that she and her fiancé couldn't find anyone who could do both. And their wedding was just two months away!
But Maria persisted and managed to find me through the referral of another vendor.
During our discussion of her vision, she mentioned that in addition to live ukulele music for her ceremony, she also wanted a DJ who could spin both traditional and modern Latin music for her reception.
I had zero experience with Latin music at that time, and when I disclosed that to her, she persisted saying "we can't find anyone else."
In my desire to help Maria, I finally agreed to take the job knowing that I had a ton of homework ahead of me (more than usual).
Maria sent me a list of Spanish songs that she and her family love and I used it as my reference for building up (and practicing) the entire DJ music program for her reception.
The big day arrives… the guests start walking down the beach towards the ceremony area and I'm playing the ukulele gently as they take their seats. I could see from their faces and body language that they're enjoying the relaxed, breezy vibe of the romantic ukulele and vocals.
The loving vibes really elevated as Maria began her processional accompanied by her requested song on ukulele. It was quite a moment.
After the ceremony, it was time for the reception. I was pretty nervous because it was my first time ever DJ'ing a Latin wedding. But rather than tell you how it went, here's what Maria & Joel had to say...
