I hired him for electric work to merge three switches into one plate. He did a solid job. He removed two switches (one ancient); evaluated all the wiring; developed a solid plan for a complicated situation; and put his plan into action. Zeev has decades of electrical experience. He is going to fix the problem the way it should be fixed. He is not going to slow down for newbies nor teach you how to do it like a YouTube video. Tell him what you want and need, he will do what you want and need, and he will do it well. In the end, I could be fussy. I wish the junction box was screwed into another stud. He works fast and I should have asked for that right away. C'est la vie! Solid work at a great cost. Five stars.

We had Edward install fans in our bedrooms, which required moving the electrical from the side to the middle of the room. He was incredibly prompt, professional, clean, and did high quality work. Plus, he was friendly and affordable. We really can’t say enough good things! We’d definitely hire him again for future work.

Couldn’t have asked for more! Problem: Single parent; limited budget; 80 feet of old rotting fence; holes under another 80 feet of newer fence; 3 dogs; no experience with tools; nothing but bad experiences with contractors causing complete lack of trust for most service providers. Solution: John Chambers and A&C Innovative Contractors. The name says it all, innovative solutions was exactly what I needed in order to fix the issues that put my animals and home at risk, while staying within a limited budget, and it’s what I got. After getting quotes from many of the big fence companies in town that wanted literally thousands of dollars for labor to replace fence boards on existing steel fence posts (about 4 hrs of work), and contacting dozens of so called fencers on Craigs list to have zero responses, I had given up for this year’s dry season, and was very frustrated. So frustrated that I hesitated to contact another soul about the fence and was patching what I could, with what I could find. I stumbled upon Thumbtack and decided I’d try one last time. I received 4 responses; I communicated with 3 of them and got a response only from John at A&C. We set a time for him to look at the property and he arrived right on time and within an hour of our call. He was working across town and made a special effort to provide an estimate quickly. He walked the area, let me share my concerns, then offered multiple options from replacing the whole fence, to using existing solid pieces, suggesting what work I could do to keep the budget down, and also seeing the issue I had with holes under another part of a newer fence, suggested a solution that he could incorporate into his schedule and still stay within my budget for the old fence replacement. The main part of the work was done within days, the fence is beautiful, and it’s curved which added some complexity. In passing I mentioned that I was very unhappy with the quality of the boards that were on sections of my fence that was only 2 years old. John ended up hand picking over 160 cedar boards to find perfect boards with no holes, splits or twists. I could not be happier, while my trust in service providers in general is still low; my trust in A&C Innovative Contractors is over the top. I will use this company for any and all needs in the future. Their quality, commitment and communications is above and beyond just about anything you will find out there. In total, I met 3 people working for this company and all 3 were above reproach. They dug in, worked crazy hard, in very hot conditions, were very sensitive to my needs and expectations, super friendly and provide really excellent service. I even had tire problems on my truck and was taken advantage of by a local tire dealer on one of the days they were here, when hearing this, John didn't hesitate to say 'hey next time you questions something like that, call me and I'll help you find a better solution'. Trust me folks, give these guys a try, you will not be disappointed. I feel like I finally have that support that I can call on when I need something that I just can't do myself. Linda SE Portland

We needed a new fence built between us and the neighbors. I got bids from the three main fencing companies in the area, as well as from some artsy boutique style fencing and landscaping type outfits. They were all INSANELY EXSPENSIVE!!! Ozzie came out and we liked him immediately. He gave us a reasonable quote, was available and very accommodating regarding our timeline, very hard working. He did an awesome job, the fence looks great, I love the gate....I really can't say enough good things about Ozzie his work ethic and his craftsmanship. I plan on using him for several future projects, and I gave my mom his contact info already.

The Damas team painted my kitchen cabinets, and I am enormously impressed with their professionalism and commitment to perfection. The team approached the project with great depth of knowledge and an unsurpassed attention to detail with cabinets that had a challenging older finish. I've been a homeowner for 30 years, and Damas Painting is the most outstanding group among all the trades that have worked on my homes. They draped the site thoroughly, cleaned meticulously at the end of each day, and the kitchen was immaculate when the project was completed. My kitchen cabinets look factory fresh: they are glowing with perfection! I highly, highly recommend Damas Painting.

Lloyd's pricing was 40% lower than the bids I'd got from larger fencing companies and he did a fine job putting it up in challenging conditions. My new fence is level and solid with good materials. He showed up when he said he would and was easy to reach. Couldn't be happier.

Filiberto arrived the same day we spoke by telephone. He quickly diagnosed my fountain problem as the electrical jack and not the pump. After I have the electrical repaired I will hire Filiberto to perform some cleaning and maintenance on my fountain.

He's very professional and knows his stuff! Thanks Mario, we will call you next time we need your help. (fixed electrical, moved some sprinkler head locations, adjusted spray direction and coverage)

We used Eric and his team for an almost 2.5 month project after moving back into our old house that was rented out for several years. Initially we were only going to use them for external and internal painting and cabinet refinishing, but we quickly found that we liked working with them and appreciated Eric's commitment, his obvious knowledge and attention to detail which led to us hiring them to replace our flooring and other various projects around the house from the shower door installation, carpentry work to smaller electrical work. We lived in the house while Eric's team did the work, which can get pretty overwhelming. They communicated well, respected our privacy and worked with kids nap times, weekend trips, etc. I can honestly say that I could not imagine this project going any better considering the circumstances. We were satisfied with the final product and we found the pricing to be reasonable. We found especially the painting job to be top notch, this is definitely their specialty. Eric also wrapped some beams and accent walls in cedar. Those turned out awesome as well. I highly recommend using those guys for any project, big or small. They have pride in their work and at the end you will not feel taken advantage of, which is too often the case when working with other contractors.

Bob delivers! Even during a snowstorm he kept his appointment with us and managed to relocate our water heater all within a day to our basement. It was not an easy task, and Bob did an excellent job thinking about details we didn't. I called Bob back to help with another plumbing project since and he also took care of it so that we will not have any future issues. I will reach out to Bob first any time we have any plumbing or electrical projects. Thanks, Bob!

We had a full 2nd story bath remodel done! Removed an old nasty, corner shower and replaced with a giant drop in soaker tub. Replaced old vanity with new IKEA furniture, installed recessed lights and laid Marmoleum on the floor! They did it all, "start to finish", including plumbing, electrical, assembly and install! The tile work in the shower area is absolutely stunning and their work was very miticulous!! They definately take pride in their work and it shows! We went through a few contractors before deciding and it was the communication that sold me! Chad was detail oriented, present for questions I had and he asked for the job!! They communicated with us every step of the way, no surprises and were very professional and fun! I felt very comfortable with them in my home!! I highly recommend Chad and his crew! I look forward to getting our downstairs bath remodeled very soon! Thanks!!

Shawn and his crew gave our house a whole new look. They were prompt coming in and were able to get our project done very quickly. His work was quality work and he was always available for any questions or concerns over the phone. He has helped me get a hold of other services like tiling, plumbing and electrical and was able to orchestrate it all. Definitely recommend him and will use him again

Braulio worked on extending a brick patio and building an outdoor kitchen facility at our house. The project lasted about three months, with some delays caused by weather. The job consisted of masonry, carpentry and electrical. Braulio showed up promptly at 7:45 AM every day, and worked solidly until 3:30 or 4:00 PM. His workmanship and attention to detail were impeccable. On many occasions, he would have insights or make suggestions that improved the appearance or utility of the structure. He is a friendly and outgoing person with a great sense of humor, and a pleasure to work with. I give him my highest recommendation.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
