Glenn and his employee installed and wired a stained glass light above my pool table. They were punctual, efficient and did a fabulous job. The light looks great. Glenn will be my go to guy for projects beyond my skill level which means most of them. 5 star skill with personality.

Fantastic job with not only installing handmade chandler from Italy but installed all the hand blown glass as well...looks spectacular and reasonable in estimate; on time, flexible in installation of another light fixture; obviously taking pride in his work; will definitely use his experience and service for other projects in near future; thank you Yazek for a wonderful and expedient installation 😀

Absolutely top notch. And I'm picky. I got top quality. Honest, respectful, reliable. Fair price, delivered exactly as promised. Cleaned a huge tri level home, including cabinets & drawers inside and out, 31/2 bathrooms, tile, laminate, mirrors, appliances, windows inside and out, deck and hard scape. He said it would be perfect and it is. Best carpet cleaning I've ever had, wished he had been cleaning my carpets all along. Highest recommendation. Many thanks, Alexander

Corey removed an "over the stove" microwave oven that had quit working - and installed the new one we had purchased at Home Depot. He was extremely professional - showing up for the project when promised, clean with all the tools he needed to complete the project. He even had a heavy pad to lay on top of our glass stove top just to make sure nothing fell and cracked it. The new microwave is now rock solid - something the old one never was. I will definitly use Corey again for any kind of project we need help with around the house.

I hired AM Professional Cleaning for a move-out cleaning when I decided to move. Ana & her team at AM Professional Cleaning are AMAZING! Beyond words-incredible! First of all her Thumbtack quote was the best I received. The quality of their performance was worth far beyond what she charged! I can honestly say that my apartment was cleaner after Ana & her team finished than when I initially moved in! My stove & refrigerator looked brand new! My apartment also had a lot of windows & mirrors-all of which were streak free & spotless! They even cleaned the runner/seal of my sliding glass door! Ana & her team did such an amazing job, I'm still taking about it with my family & friends 3 days later! I've given her card to several of my friends & plan on referring their service to anyone I know seeking cleaning services. In addition to their flawless performance, Ana & her team were efficient (they cleaned quickly, but with quality & perfection in mind). They were also kind & humble. We gave them more than what she quoted because it was well worth it! We basically had to force her to take the extra because she didn't want to deter from the quote she gave. In summation, HIRE Ana & her team at AM Professional Cleaning! They strive for and achieve perfection! Efficient, professional & sweet-worth every penny & then some!

Daniel replaced a window at my house that had been broken into. It was a 1950s window with weights and sashes, so it was a little involved getting the old window out, and the new window framed correctly and put in. He installed a nice Pella vinyl window! I love it! He worked in the freezing cold to finish the job, which took longer than anticipated, without as much as a single complaint about any of the circumstances (or my dogs!) I've dealt with several unreliable, poor-communicating contractors over the past year, and Daniel was head and shoulders above them in terms of responsibility, punctuality and work well done, just as he said it would be. I am very pleased with his work, and I would highly recommend this very nice, self-sufficient, and reasonably priced contractor to my friends and family. Thank you, Daniel!

Quoted me a great price for the windows I wanted. Other companies quoted me double the price for the same windows. They came on time and finished 12 windows in 1 day. They were clean and professional. Communication with them was fantastic. I would highly recommend. You should read reviews and shop around before you make a decision on a major window project.

there isn't going to be room for all the great things we have to say about Eric Fowler. Quick to respond by both phone and email. Came to the house a gave a quote the next day. send a text apologizing that he was going to be 10 minutes late - who is that courteous anymore? a very reasonable quote, made sure we signed a contract to protect us both. He started the next day !!! He asked lots of questions to make sure he understood what we wanted and inquired at several intervals wondering if the work completed to date was to our satisfaction. we now have excellent storage shelves in the garage and 2 other locations, doors and windows that work, new and freshly painted linen drawers and many other upgrades. Eric is polite, a hard worker, and honest. He is knowledgeable regarding how to do the job the right way but also has tips to help save you $$. He and his crew cleaned up after themselves and were a pleasure to have in our home We now have an "Eric list" for all of our next projects we are lining up. He has so many great reviews, we'll be lucky to get him back. Hiring Fresh Painting and Remodeling for your next project is a no brainer.

Lino did an excellent job of cleaning up and preparing my rental house for occupancy after it was vacated without being properly cleaned or cared for. He did major cleaning in the kitchen, painting and wall touch-up in the living room, minor cupboard and storm window repair; and cleaning of gutters and debris left behind by previous tenants. He came to the job exactly at the time promised, worked diligently, and completed the work on time. He asked me about a couple of things I had overlooked--and agreed to take care of them. I was completely satisfied with the quality, time required, and cost of the work Lino completed. I will definitely use him again and have no reservations in commending him for the good work he did on my house.

Good crew of strong young men tore out my old kitchen walls and popcorn ceiling. Provided extra help to lift and place a big new support beam in attic. Cleaned up well afterwards. They came back to install new sheetrock for ceiling and walls. Excellent work! Then the mudding and finish work was done by a VERY experienced, high quality pro who did a beautiful job! So nice. Hardly any sanding, so less dust. He is like a "secret weapon" to finish a great job! Leftcoast hauled away our debris pile too!

If I could give six stars I would! Ismael and his crew were professional, punctual, helpful and friendly. They always showed up on time and cleaned up at the end of the day. They put in long hours and worked diligently turning my 95 year old home into a showpiece! Ismale came out on a Sunday, his day off, to help with a window that was slightly stuck after painting so I can get my air conditioner back in before temperatures rose to over 90 today! In my book that's going extra mile!! I couldn't be more pleased with the work that Malle painting did. It was money well spent and I would recommend them highly to anyone who needs work done. Thank you Ismael and crew!

I really appreciate Duane's work on this project. It was a smaller job but an important one to get done before the rains began. He retrimmed the outside of two weather-facing windows. He used quality materials and was prompt in his estimate and his work. The work site was left very clean. He was very communicative as to the status of the project and when he would return to finish (painting). His fees are very fair--in fact, FAR less than the other two quotes I received through Thumbtack. Because of his quality work on this project, I've already given him another small project to do next month!

Javier responded minutes after I posted, showed up the next morning and did fantastic work. He hung exterior window shutters on the front of our house. I will procure his services again for any construction, plumbing, electrical or handyman needs. Oh, and in addition to his work, he's a really good person. Highest of character.

I needed a new sliding glass door which was complicated by the fact there was wood rot around the door. After picking out a door at Lowes they said the couldnt do it re the wood rot. Max found a comparable door with a competitive price. After removing the current door he was able to repair the wood rot and install the new door which I'm thrilled with.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
