Tom is tutoring my son in math. My son said, after both sessions they've had so far, that he learned more in the one hour than he did in weeks in class. He used to say "I'm just bad at math" and now he feels like math is something he can tackle. Tom is professional and a pleasure to work with!

I hired Jennifer to tutor my little sister, Ray, for her SATs online. In just 6 weeks, her score went up 90 points thanks to some hard work and Jennifer's methodology. Unfortunately for us, Jennifer wasn't the first tutor we worked with. We hired 2 other tutors before her. Both were more expensive (one was literally 10x more expensive) and neither were anywhere near as effective. Ray immediately clicked with Jennifer. Her style is encouraging and direct, and my sister appreciated the candor. I appreciated the way that Jennifer kept Ray motivated and gave her strategies and short-cuts she could use during the test to raise her score. The other thing I like about Jennifer is how easy she is to work with. She is exceptionally clear and responsive. She's flexible in the ways that are important to me, and fair. If you're at all hesitant about online tutoring for SATs, I'd encourage you to seriously consider it over live SAT tutoring. We loved not having to drive anywhere for tutoring. You just don't have the flexibility to squeeze a tutoring session in between tennis practice and dinner when you have to factor in even a short commute. Plus, my sister felt more comfortable studying for SATs in the same place she studies for everything else -- the desk in her bedroom. It was easier for her to get in the zone. Even if we brought a tutor to our home, she would have had to study in a more foreign environment - our dining room table, or some other joint family space. Jennifer is an amazing teacher and a warm soul, and for the quality and care she puts into her sessions, she could easily charge twice the price. This is a no-brainer, folks. I'd recommend Jennifer to any friend looking for a tutor without hesitation.

Stefanie is a wonderful tutor and teacher. She has been tutoring my son in Math for 2 years now as he has moved from 8th Grade to 9th Grade at Benson High School. He now has a solid "B" in Geometry, when before he was struggling in all aspects of Math. She communicates well with us and his teachers and gives us good feedback on what he should be working on. You will be very happy if you use her for your son or daughter.

I love M4M Tutoring services! M4M provides the perfect atmosphere for my sister to learn and grow in all subjects, but specifically math. Not all students have the same learning style, and M4M is able to adapt to each learning style as well as provide the information in a fashion in which it will be retained! All love for M4M Tutoring services, nothing but patience, passion, and excellence has been demonstrated.

Elissa Hare is an excellent tutor. She made my daughter feel welcome, at ease, and capable of accomplishing any task. We visited Elissa primarily for help with math homework and tests; she was always prepared for whatever assignment my daughter was given. If they ran out of math work to do, Elissa would not waste a moment of time. She would have my daughter digging through her backpack for other homework she could help with. Before going to Elissa, we had considered Sylvan or Kumon. Elissa, however, was able to provide more expertise, as well as a one-on-one environment that was far more suited to our needs.

About

Most tutoring companies look at a student's grade level, and tutor according to where they should be in that grade. We look at students on an individual basis, seeing what areas they have already mastered, and what basic, foundational skills in which they may have gaps. This allows us to create a plan of progress that is specifically designed for your child-- not just for any kid who happens to be the same age. The creativity and engagement that is in every lesson is the best part of working with Mobile Minds Tutoring! Most of us have seen our curiosity lessen or die within a traditional classroom, and students who struggle in certain subjects disengage from them so that they are further unmotivated to gain success in areas of concern. Our tutors create engaging lessons for each student so that there is interaction, play, and logic towards reaching every new mastery in each concept.

Tutor Blast carefully handpicks, mentors and trains the best university students and graduates as our tutors. We have slowly grown over several years and perfected our system to give you the best results possible. We strive to help every student be successful.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

  • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
  • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
