AKA Design Co.
About this pro
I would have never thought to find a designer of Andrea's caliber on Thumbtack. Her portfolio and credentials are incredible. When I saw her quote, I thought, that maybe, at most, she'd do a basic design such as picking out colors and finishes etc. The value received per price paid was mind blowing! Complete CAD drawings, spec sheets, materials/finishes and more. She is also extremely savvy at finding stylish, and affordable stuff online. It never felt as if she was doing the consultation remotely. I gave her the dimensions of the space, my vision, limited budget, and she took it from there. We exchanged emails and also a few Skype calls. All of the files were properly organized in a Dropbox folder. It was nice to be able to access the files at the site from my phone. The final product looks AMAZING!! I can go on and on about how great she is at Design. Do not hesitate to hire her. You'll thank me later.Oct 8, 2014Verified
Andrea of AKA Designs was an absolute joy to work with. Although I did not have the pleasure of working with her in person, our long distance relationship worked out wonderfully well. Andrea beautifully designed our living/dining room and computer room. I am so impressed with her superior skills at incorporating my stuff and ideas with her amazing wealth of design knowledge and talent to create beautiful rooms that are still us. Her attention for detail is impeccable. She displayed an unlimited amount of patience at answering my endless questions. I really cannot say enough good things about my experience working with Andrea, she has far exceeded my expectations. I would (and already have!) highly recommend Andrea, without hesitation.May 24, 2014Verified
Andrea was a joy to work with from start to finish. she is unbelievably thorough and detail oriented as well as creative. she was able to create designs for our house that had our personality woven in, but went far beyond what we could have done ourselves. She was available to help with the smallest detail, from ordering fabric and answering my many questions. Her vision for our home was comprehensive and seamless. Although she often does huge hotel projects she gave our family home the same care and attention she would have given a CEO of a large hotel. She knows the industry inside and out and is able to guide the many contractors it takes to design a home. We recommend her without reservation!Nov 19, 2013Verified
We worked remotely by email and drop box. It was great. She was able to understand our style and vision for our new home and provide options to stay within budget. Our new place is a 3-story, 3 bedroom, 2.5 baths with two decks. Any time our ideas were out of budget, Andrea always provided back up options. Most importantly, we were able to reuse a lot of our existing pieces and furniture. We've received positive comments from friends and family. Everything Andrea provided was easy to view, all instructions were easy to follow. Made our interior design project very easy. I will definitely work with Andrea again for any future needs.May 22, 2014

- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? Not officially - I stay abreast of the design world globally, though various online publications, I get regular updates from vendors and manufacturers and, whenever possible, I attend design tradeshows in the U.S. and France to keep up with new products. I like to think that getting out and about, traveling extensively, is always part of my continuing design education, giving me opportunities to touch and see design around the world, which helps shape my vision and informs my design work.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?Ever since high school, I was fascinated with buildings...I was in a very small suburban school and had to work with faculty to establish my own "private" mechanical and architectural drafting courses, as nothing like that was offered in the standard curriculum! I took a long (8 years!), interesting professional path before finally putting myself in university to study Architecture and Art. By the time I'd tried out this and that over those 8 years before, I was still completely enamored and knew without doubt that architecture and design was it for me! I love it still, always will!
- What types of customers have you worked with? Most common for me in residential work has been helping clients either refresh their existing larger "common areas": Living Rooms / Great Rooms, Dining Rooms. Also very common is helping those who have moved into new homes...this is often overwhelming for people trying to figure out what to keep, where it should go, new paint colors and window treatments...and then I provide suggestions for anything they HAVEN'T considered that will make their new spaces really home for their unique lifestyles and taste.
