FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The price covers a full 60 minute hour as opposed to the traditional 50 minute therapy hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
That varies with every client depending on why they are there. In general I ask what brings them into therapy and what changes they are hoping for in their lives. In the beginning I'm gathering information about the current issues, history of the issue, family background etc. From there the process can go in many directions, the course as unique as the individual client themselves. I have a lot of training in many different therapeutic models and in any given session may use a combination of them all or none. I believe in the truth of the moment, guiding the direction so until I'm in that moment it's waiting to happen. As a holistic therapist, working with individuals, couples, and groups and a perpetual student who loves to keep learning my craft, I have trained in multiple psycho/spiritual disciplines over my 27 years in practice. What I originally saw as individual tools in my therapeutic toolbox, have now all synthesized into what has become my own unique model of therapy; therapy which I experience every day as both unique to each to each client and truly effective! Because no two clients are alike or have the same needs, I work spontaneously being present to the person/persons and to what's happening at the time, every session unique and tailored to the moment. The results being that, in relatively short periods of time, I get to watch my clients transform their critical relationships with themselves into a loving confident connection. I see them take ownership of their bodies and their life energy. I get to see couples learn to communicate in whole new ways, creating intimate heartfelt relationships, and so much more. I see parents go from being afraid for or even of their children to enjoying and growing with them in beautiful ways. The three main focuses of my work are to first help clients clear the effects of the past, debunking the self-limiting beliefs that eclipse the magnificence of who they are. Secondly, I teach communication skills that honestly lead to connection and true intimacy instead of conflict or loneliness. The third is mindfulness, learning to live from their own knowing and intuition in the moment. There are three aspects to this last one; assisting people to take charge of their busy minds and to discover that they have the ability to stop spending their life energies thinking of the past. The past is too often a place of guilt, regret, self-pity, and most importantly total powerlessness; a place where nothing can change. Of equal importance is teaching them how to redirect their focus from the future, which inevitably leads to fear, anxiety, and once again, powerlessness; we are not there so there is nothing we can do there regardless of how much we think or worry about it. Teaching clients to bring their thoughts and attention back to right now opens the doorway to confidence, clarity, and a full experience of being alive. The way of influencing the future is in the here and now, staying in the present where they can make conscious choices. Now is the place where we have power, the power to choose, the power feel, to experience the people we care about, the power to create anything including the future. Now is where life is happening. Now is where love resides. I love it all! After 26 years I am still excited to get up and go to work every day as I get to sit with courageous people determined to face their inner demons in service to increasing their capacity to love and contribute to life; theirs, yours, ours. It takes guts to go into therapy! I have enormous respect for the people willing to face life head on and take responsibility for themselves. And then, of course, is the joy of watching the transformation that takes place over time through the therapeutic process (theirs and mine! I learn things from my clients all the time!) Seeing a person find compassion and tenderness for themselves and others, casting off the burden of life taken personally and making room for others to just be themselves, watching their trust of others and themselves expand are all pretty wonderful things to get to see. From the experience of feeling love for themselves it's astounding how much a person's physical appearance can even change, and there is a direct proportion to someone's capacity to love themselves and their ability to give and express love to others. I get to watch the universal love pot just keep growing with every client. To be able to take someone from the pain of whatever brought them in to see the loving changes they make in their lives--well, it just doesn't get much better than that! I really do think I must have the most wonderful job in the world. I certainly know it's the most wonderful job for me!
