Introduction: I’ve been in the photography business for many years, and I genuinely enjoy what I do. I have worked in many different situations so I know how to create great images anywhere and effectively capture the moments! I have the experience you need, with thousands of different photo shoots including many projects that required me to have a deep understanding of specific lighting and camera knowledge. We met a true artist when we requested a photo session with Patrick Smith. He was able to work us in for a family portrait on a Saturday afternoon before we had to catch a flight back to our respective homes. We are most appreciative to him for accommodating us. He is very courteous, professional and made each member of our family feel very comfortable. His work is outstanding with exceptional quality. We cannot wait to get it framed.

I wanted some nice portraits of myself and was fortunate to have 5 great photographers respond to my particular request. When I studied Patricks page, the quality of the photos really stood out. I was drawn to the variety he offered but particularly to the richness he achieved in his photos. I also appreciated how warm and communicative he was in responding to my messages. Patricks pricing was incredibly affordable and he was willing to fully support my photographic needs, from multiple outfit changes, to providing hair and makeup support if I desired. I came to him with the need to create professional photos for myself as a nurse and board member, for my work as an aspiring vocalist and fun photos to share with family and friends. So, I arrived with arms full of outfits and accessory choices, and high hopes. I had preferred a studio setting. When I arrived at his studio, I have to say that it didnt speak well for his talent. It was far from what I would have expected. I kept reminding myself of the quality of the photos on his website. Patrick patiently gave suggestions for the best outfit and accessory combinations that would photograph well. My photos were taken in a very simple room, but the lighting was amazing. Patrick was kind, professional, supportive and his direction easy to follow. We had a great time working together and despite the simplicity of the surroundings, the photos we created together are amazing. I only have one problem. He captured me so well that I am struggling to choose which photos I want because there are too many great ones to choose from! I would work with him again in a heartbeat!

Patrick receives an 5 star rating from me for exceeding all of my expectations in the areas of customer service, quality of work offered, price, timeliness, and most importantly the finished product. Let me preface my review by stating that I have had extensive prior experience working with photographers in Portland over the years including my year as Mrs. Oregon. When I went to choose a photographer for my fifteen year old daughter's headshot, I had several top photographers in mind. After reviewing his work on his site and finding it to be comparable to the best photographers in PDX, I selected Patrick over the others who were more well known to me due in great part to his flexibility, responsiveness, and customer service skills. (sadly these skills are rarely seen among top notch photographers.) I took a risk with someone I wasn't as familiar with and was pleasantly surprised to have all my expectations exceeded. Let me explain. Personality/Skill....My daughter had no prior experience with posing other than school photos. Additionally, she was apprehensive about going into a studio to take her head shots. Patrick put her at ease, was able to coach her through the basics of posing, and even brought in his makeup artist to give her some tips. To see the quality of her posing improve so much so very quickly over the course of the single session was nothing short of amazing. Makeup/Hair..One thing I was looking for in a photographer was a skilled makeup/hair artist. Not really knowing what to expect, I hoped for the best. It isn't uncommon to get a cookie cutter makeup look for all clients from a makeup artist. I was extremely impressed with Ashley. To begin with she cared enough about her work to ask for photos in advance of my daughter as well as the look she was going for. The final result was nothing short of amazing. She was able to achieve two distinct looks that we provided with precision. She is a perfectionist. It is her personality, however, that was perfect for our needs. She is a young woman who relates to teens extremely well. She brought my daughter out of her shell and put her at ease. I highly recommend paying extra to use her to do your makeup. It was money well spent as she created the foundation of the look that Patrick was able to capture very artistically. Price/Value..The photos are stunning. I didn't want a senior portrait photo being marketed as a headshot. Patrick really knows the local industry and what they are looking for in the various niche markets. We have a great assortment of photos reasonably priced. In my opinion, a photographer who is very skilled will charge a reasonable photo session fee and then charge for each photo selected individually. Don't get sucked into packages as you may end up with only one or two good shots while paying for many mediocre ones. Patrick is confident enough that he will get enough great must have shots that you will love that he will end up making the same or more money from me than a photographer who mandates a package. He doesn't need to force clients into packages. I literally love dozens of the final photos. When all is said and done, I will have paid less than I would have for a package with no assurance of quality. Customer Service..In the end the customer service is the most important part. Patrick was responsive to my initial inquiry and all follow up questions. The proofs were done remarkably fast. I will be scheduling a follow up session to pay for my final selections. He so cared about my daughter's experience, however, that he let her have a few of her favorite shots right away. That is something you would never see from a large photo studio. In short, you can't go wrong with Patrick.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is simple. You pay the photo session fee at the time of the shoot. - You’ll get a free online proofing gallery shortly after the photo session from which to make your final selections. - You receive with your fee up to ten (10) edited images from the session. - Large jpeg images are delivered to you via USB drive, or online via FTP sites like Dropbox. I can edit, retouch, or improve any small issues as needed. I can also re-size image file for specific applications. - You get permission to use, copy, share or print the images as needed. If you need more than ten images from the session they are $5 per image for edited finals. Please inquire for specifics. Of course, I’d be happy to assist if you need help ordering prints or other print media.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Since I have needed to switch to digital a few years back I have worked extensively in learning to keep up with working with digital media. I have worked in Photoshop for many years and have a good command of the way it works to improve my photography.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I fell in love with photography in high school and been doing it ever since. I've been working on and off with a camera of some sort for 30+ years.
