What do you love about your job?
I love the challenge of teaching music that excites and motivates my students. It is so satisfying to help students of all ages develop a lifelong love of music.
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
I began my piano teaching career at Hoffman Academy of Music, a music education start-up company in Portland, Oregon. The director of the company created it following an excellent business model. Over the course of my 5 years there, I saw it grow from a small start-up with one employee (me) to a successful business employing over 20 music instructors. Hoffman Academy inspired me to take my own approach to teaching piano and starting my own business.
Describe your most memorable project.
One thing I love about my job is developing lasting relationships with my clients. Some of my students have been taking lessons with me for many years. One student started taking classical piano lessons with me as a 9-year-old. When he was 12, he asked to learn jazz piano in addition to classical because he found jazz really exciting. This year, I was thrilled to see him perform a sold-out concert with his jazz band at a music venue in Portland. The joy in the concert hall that evening was palpable!
