Alex has been a life saver. As a 33 year old professional I have always been held back do to math. I went to college twice and both times failed do to my weak math skills.. 3 years of college and nothing to show for it. I tried several tutors over the years who could not teach me. They would just look at me and say "I don't understand how to teach you." I could not even do fractions. As a right brain learner I began to feel hopeless... After a month with Alex I am through fractions and have begun algerbra! I'm going to attend penn state where Calculus is required and I know with the help of Alex I can do it. I'm actually starting to enjoy math! Very strange for me haha Why I reccomended alex: He uses many different approaches to teaching He creates a relaxed environment He can read body language to see if you comprehend Plus more If your a right brained learner or your child is and you feel hopeless you really should give him a chance. It has already changed my outlook and believe will save my life!
Impact has been tutoring my daughter for 3 years now. My daughter has struggled with multiple subjects. Impact has had tutors who have helped her gain confidence, increase her organization, self esteem, and last but not least, her grades. Impact has been in constant contact with her teachers to make sure they knew where she was at and have lessons ready for her when she comes with no homework. They pin point trouble areas and make sure she has all the basic concepts before moving on. Yes she has moved through tutors, but it has been 3 years. She has loved each of her tutors and we both love that she can have tutors that grow with her. They teach basic reading through advanced history, calculus, and sciences. I have had three of my children go here and my next will be there too. Best investment for my children's education and their future. -Suxueling
Kate helped me prepare for the GRE math test and was very helpful. She is patient, understanding, collaborative, and very intuitive in her tutoring. Beyond being brilliant in her math skills, Kate is a great person who genuinely feels invested in your growth and success.
My son is in college and an excellent writer. When I asked him what made him so good, he credited 'Mike the Tutor'. He has tutored all 3 of my son's in Math and English with great results.
Richelle is the best math tutor. My kids enjoyed her titoring style, learned a lot and got A's in math. I highly recommend!
Exceptionally smart, punctual, and thorough, Diego helped tutor me through an extremely challenging college chemistry series that I was otherwise unprepared for. Part of what I appreciated most about him, was his ability to explain complicated material in a simple and accessible vernacular without oversimplifying the information. His interpersonal skills were also much appreciated. Diego kept things light which allowed me to forget about the pressure of learning, while developing not only an understanding of the concepts, but a genuine appreciation and fascination for the material. However, while he clearly possessed an advanced knowledge of the subject as well as a great sense of humor, there was never even the slightest jab or snicker at what I'm sure were so often incredibly elementary and downright comical questions. He remained patient and understanding at all times. Without doubt, one of my most helpful and effective tutors thus far! Thanks for everything, Diegs!
Andrew was ready to work with my 7th grade daughter the next day after I contacted him. He is always on time, very professional and has assisted her to master many math skills in just a few lessons. Thanks Andrew!
My son has received tutoring from BrainFruit Tutoring for the past year. His grades in math have improved a lot and he has gained confidence and self-esteem as a result. He likes going to his session because of the fun and friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend BrainFruit Tutoring.
Ben provides a warm, easy connection with my son, but still provides structure and accountability. Ben jumped right in during the finals crunch time and then put a great action plan in place for the next semester. It such a relief to have a skilled teacher supporting my son with school work, study tips, and overall executive functioning skills. No more need for parent homework police!
I'm so glad I reached out to Guide on the Side for help with my two teens! I'll admit up front that I'm a rather "picky" mom--I have high expectations and I'm careful about who I allow my kids to spend time with. Ms. Karmiller did not disappoint! All of our interactions were professional and so, so supportive. Ms. Karmiller is a compassionate, patient teacher, Her developmental and educational expertise is evident. After spending a little time with each child, she seemed to have an intuitive feel for how to best tackle each child's unique needs. She clearly has a knack for developing supportive and instructional relationships with children. Both of my children felt cared for and respected. Their time with her was "fun" and did not seem like work, even though they got a lot done. One teen was struggling with a high school AP class, and over a period of several months, Ms. Karmiller provided direct tutoring as well as instruction on specific study strategies tailored to my child's learning style. That child raised her class grade by two letter grades! It is such a joy to see her feeling more independent and confident now. I think she's even got the courage to try other AP classes in the future. My other child needed assistance during the transition between high school and college. Ms. Karmiller provided life skills training (guidance on financial budgeting and developing routines) and job search assistance (resume building, job applications, and networking/interview coaching). These are things I'd normally try to help my child with myself, but as is typical of this age, the child wanted to be independent and do these things by himself. It was a great comfort to me as a parent to know that he had another trusted, knowledgeable adult to turn to with questions. He got to feel independent, and I got the security of knowing my child was adapting well during the transition. In addition to meeting with him as scheduled, Ms. Karmiller went above and beyond, checking in with him regularly to inquire about his progress. She also updated me so I stayed "in the loop." I highly recommend Guide on the Side to other parents who want to help their children with school or emerging adult skills.
Cathy assisted my son with math tutoring and with studying skills during his high school years. We would go to her house. It was always quiet and private feeling. I could stay or leave - it was comfortable either way. She was always on time, prepared (several sharpened pencils at the ready!) and worked very hard with my son. She set goals and expectations with him and held him accountable. It made a HUGE difference for him with school and his understanding of the subject matter, and his grades. Cathy is really good at what she does. She doesn't talk down to the students or over their heads. She meets them where they are and works with them. She gives positive reinforcements for a job well done and in doing so, builds up their self-esteem. When a student doesn't understand the subject, this can really hurt them psychologically - Cathy reversed that process. Cathy also promptly gave receipts for monies paid, which is helpful for our finances. If necessary, she would spent a few extra minutes at the end making sure that my son understood what they were working on and that he understood what was expected of him for the next time. This sometimes led to the next student having to wait a few minutes, but that is all a balancing act. I never felt put out by this if we were the "next student" and appreciated this extra act of care. She was, in general, always very aware and sensitive to start and ending times. We had a great experience!
Elissa is excellent with my 14-year-old granddaughter who had become discouraged with her online high school French class. Elissa is encouraging, tells interesting stories, is very attentive, is firm and helps move along with the lessons. I see the excitement in my granddaughter, she looks forward to going to the tutoring sessions.
Greg was amazing he came and made a study plan specifically with where I was at and what I needed. He was always willing to work with my busy schedule and was extremely understanding if i had to cancel. His prices are great and he is extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend hiring him for any tutoring needs.
He was great with my daughter. So great he is being used on a weekly basis now. Not only that, my neighbor will be using him for his son, and my other neighbor for his daughter. Outstanding. Amazing - and really nice kid. College students passionate about their studies are always the best when it comes to conveying information. Highly recommended.
Tate has been very patient and exceptional at help our son get through French II. His ability to speak French and teach French is excellent. Our son was failing when we began and disliked his French class. After a few tutoring session he was able to enjoy the class again and took interest in his studies. Tate is flexible with his schedule and would highly recommend him.
I participated in a study group that Will ran on the Illiad. It was so worthwhile, and has helped my understanding of philosophy and literature. I've also been in writing groups with Will. He is an outstanding writer, both fiction and expository, and always makes excellent suggestions in a very kind way.
