Introduction: Greetings! My name is George, and I'm a freelance translator/interpreter, traveler, business owner, day trader, and lover of learning. I was born in Portland, Oregon, but moved around quite a bit, primarily growing up in sunny California and not-so-sunny Ohio. I chose to attend Howard University in Washington, DC, to study Political Science and Spanish, as well as to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that the nation's capital has to offer. I participated in a study abroad program during my sophomore year in the Dominican Republic, and my life hasn't been the same since. The experiences I had there left me with an intensified desire to learn languages as well as a severe case of the "travel bug". Upon my return to Howard, I enrolled in the simultaneous interpretation unit there, which is a graduate certification program for interpreters and translators in a variety of languages. I absolutely loved the program, and the people I met as a result of being a part of it. A year later, I found myself in Cuba (legally!) as a participant in another immersive study program, which was a wonderful experience for me, as Cuba is seemingly a world of its own. I also had the privilege of serving as the interpreter for the group of American students there, interpreting a large portion of the classes as well as escort interpreting for the group when we went on excursions. A few months after my return to the US, I launched and began to build my business, Diversity Global, which aims to harness international travel to enhance people's language skills, cultural competence, and life experience, as well as to spur community engagement and development in developing countries. As I build my business, I am looking to put my passion and experience for languages and their applications to use, which brings me here.
