"I have not had many massages in my life and have always considered them to be a luxury for relaxation and for counter acting stress. And indeed a massage does relax and release stress but I now realize that a massage can also be therapy and a path to recovery for injuries or ailments brought on by routine life. Stephanie is very knowledgable in anatomy and how the body works. She not only gave me an excellent massage but also provided me with simple exercises so I can strengthen weak muscles that are at the root of my problems. The over all experience was wonderful, calming my senses while deeply working my muscles and tendons. I am now a regular client and feel better than I have for years. Kathy"

"Tarrah has magic hands! I don't go to get massage nearly as much as I probably should, but Tarrah definitely made me think about doing it more often, because she made my soreness disappear! I 'll be booking with her again soon!"

"I ride my bike quite a lot and many of my riding buddies were telling me about the benefits of massage. I didn't really believe it was necessary as I do plenty of yoga and other stretching. They finally convinced me and I have been going to see Kyle for a few weeks now - it's great! I would recommend it to keep any athlete in great shape. Thanks Kyle!"

"I have been treated by Ms Paddock numerous times over the years, Reiki and Cranial-Sacral. I have a rare brain disorder that no medical doctor, or drug, is effective in treating. Maybe 20 times I have visited her for the above referenced services. After her treatment, a calm returns to my system (brain) that is of enormous relief, and that no medicne can produce. . Ms Paddock is not only certified for these services, as well as Massage Theraphy, but pursues her own continuing education in the healing arts in with a most dedicated passion. A number of things are impressive about Ms Paddock. She seamlesly blends complete professionalism, while immediately putting her clients at total ease. In addition, she has a rare, almost immediate intuitive idea about her clients and what treatments would best serve them. Professional, talented, caring and always spot on, there is nothing in the treatments I have recieved from her that could be any better."

"Mitchell is an incredible healer, really and truly. His work is unlike anything else I have ever experienced- not your average deep tissue. He explained really clearly the connection between emotional state and physical tension, and used some emotional processing tools while doing bodywork (which felt amazing by the way) to fully relax my body and help my back heal. I left feeling like a whole new person, and can't wait to work with him again!"

"I had a pregnancy massage done on Saturday with Kathrina and it was everything I absolutely needed! She was phenomenal...she covered every part of my body and then some! The experience was so GREAT, that I rescheduled that day for another massage the next month. Not only did she massage me, she also stretched my arms and legs which was an added benefit and definitely something I needed! I will be returning monthly to see her throughout my pregnancy! Her touch was perfect, she was professional, and she made me comfortable throughout the whole experience. Thank you Kathrina! "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
