I was going through a rough time because of a recent break up with someone that I truly loved. I am an immigrant so had no close family here. It was really getting out of control and I decided to seek for some help. Dave helped me a lot to understand what is really bothering me. He provided a calm and relaxing environment that I could easily talk through my issues. I was feeling really terrible before the counseling but now I am feeling much better, I am a lot more stable and I know that I can go through this phase of my life.

I wasn't quite sure what I was looking for when I first called Aaron. I wasn't happy in my job but I didn't know why. I wasn't necessarily looking for another job yet but I wasn't sure what to do next. Aaron helped me figure out that my job wasn't aligned with my values and that I was burned out on some aspects about my job I used to love. We did some work getting to the heart of my nagging discomfort, tried to figure out if there was a way to make my current job work for me, did some assessments to explore what else might be out there that would work for me, and came up with some great ideas. Once we'd figured out where I might want to go with my career, Aaron was invaluable in helping me navigate LinkedIn, research some options, set up informational interviews, talk to people in the graduate school programs I was considering, get keyed in to making connections with others and attending events where I could chat with people in fields I was looking at. Then when I was actually applying for jobs we worked together on my resume and cover letters, interviewing skills, whatever! It was helpful that he's a career AND mental health councilor, and our work together involved more than just showing me jobs to apply to. I guess what I mean is that I felt like he was considering me as a whole person and helped me see where I was assuming I wouldn't be successful without even trying? I have spoken with a number of different counselors and therapists over the years and have struggled to find someone I connect with. From the very beginning, Sarah helped me outline my mental health goals so that we were working toward the same thing. She even took the time to research the semi-obscure religion in which I was raised so she could understand my upbringing and give me advice based on my values and not hers. She made custom meditation recordings and breathing exercises for me. She worked with me on payment options. When I moved away she accomodated me with phone sessions which are just as good if not better because I can say things which I would be embarrased to in person. She has had a profound impact on my life and holds a special place in my heart. I would, and do, highly recommend her to my friends.

There are so many counselors, healers, therapists, lifestyle gurus and professional advice-givers out there that it's easy to feel overwhelmed by all the choices. As a mother of three, I've spent who knows how much time and money looking for effective support for my family's health, only to find superficial, time consuming programs that may produce short-lived results (that require constant re-upping to maintain any effectiveness), but never really get to the heart of what we need. Nothing I've tried has come close to the kind of immediate, deep affect that working with Krista has provided. Her methods are so gentle and intuitive that it's hard to believe the powerful results. Within a week of our first hour-long session, my energy and sense of well-being were raised dramatically. I felt clearer and more confident in my body's ability to heal and was amazed when the results started reaching beyond the original issue for which I had sought her out.     Mario Messina Massage was my introduction to touch therapy. By working with Mario for 8 months, I have truly come to understand the meaning of wellness and, more importantly, know how it feels. Stress and anxiety following the death of my husband had really impacted my health, physically and emotionally. Conventional medicine helped, yet controlling symptoms didn't provide me the level of health I wanted. That's when I started seeing Mario. The bodywork he offers is so extensive that he was able to develop a course of treatment for me that combined massage with other alternative therapies that has improved my physical well-being and restored by emotional strength. Each session with Mario is like a power surge that so energizes your entire being you practically float out of his office. I also now realize how inadequately I'd been caring for myself. I hadn't realized how much energy was being drained away from me every day from stress, anxiety and poor sleep. With Mario's assistance, I have also learned practices to calm and relax both my mind and body to alleviate my anxiety and reduce the impact that daily stresses have on my physical and mental well-being. I also no longer suffer from sleep disorders. I am getting very restfull sleep and am able to fall asleep and stay asleep through the night.     What is a psychologist?

    A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D.     How much do therapists cost?

    If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

    Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.

    Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

    To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.
