I had Justin and his assistant come in to take down a 30' maple tree that was 90% dead. It was overhanging my shed and also the neighbor's hot tub cabana. I had 4 other helpers on site and we all worked under Justin's command. I was amazed at his ability to assess the situation and bring it down, piece by piece, in a manner that was safe and controlled. The reality of it is that bringing all of that massive weight down to the ground is a very dangerous task. But in the end, nobody got hurt and nothing was damaged. Thank you, Justin. You did an amazing job. A+

Contacted them for tree removal and replacement. They were very responsive and the work got done a lot quicker than I expected. Not the cheapest option, but they did very good work, and trees have 1 year warranty.

We were overtaken by trees that were initially very manageable. After many years and many thunderstorms we ended up with overgrown trees, some struck by lightning, and some with breaking branches that soon became a safety concern. We are extremely satisfied with the results! Carlos and his team are top notch and offer the best price for the job! Thank you! We highly recommend Taram Tree Service! Now we can finally see our home.

Baylor's Tree Service is a Class Act. One of the 1st companies to respond and come to our home to provide a free estimate at a competitive price. They came, they conquered, with a little extra on the side and was very impressed with the end results. Would highly recommend and will keep them in mind for my future needs.

Trevor did an amazing job! He was so extremely knowledgeable and really helped to point us in the right direction with what we wanted for our project. The guys planted over 25 trees, dug all the holes and left a drip system to help the trees get established. Everything looks great and we couldn't be happier! Will definitely be using again for future projects.

Greg and his team are indeed a pleasure to work with. I had chosen to work with other, more corporate companies in the past and have been utterly disappointed. High prices, poor customer service and even worse results. Wirthwhile Property Maintenance does an exceptional job at assessing your situation, providing a variety of solutions and keeping a very open, friendly line of communication. As a landlord living out of state, I have the utmost confidence in them to deliver great service to my property's lawn and also giving my tenants peace of mind throughout the year. Going on year 2! Thanks again.

My yard was an absolute mess. Weeds had taken over all areas and plants/trees where in need of trimming. I also had tree stumps and other plants that needed to be removed. My pond was in need of a cleaning and a new pump as well. Bucks County Nursery came in and completely revitalized my property. They were very easy to work with and were flexible when I wanted to make changes. They showed up on time and completed the work as promised. They went above and beyond to accommodate all my requests. I will definitely use Bucks Country Nursery for any of my future landscaping needs.

Although avid believers of “do-it-yourself” it was time for the experts to plan and install our outside backyard patio and front walkway. This review may be a little long winded, but we felt it was necessary to cover all the key particulars of our outdoor project to provide potential customers of Trevor Landscaping (TL) a concise perspective of all the fine services afforded by the organization. Prior to TL we surveyed three potential contractors for the project. Besides price, quality materials, experience, timing and clever design, an important aspect for both of us was contractor attitude. Attitude by Trevor and his staff played an important role in our final decision. Questions before the project started and those during the project were seriously acknowledged and appropriately responded to with constant positive feedback. This included Trevor, his office staff and in particular the incredible construction workers. Positive attitude and feedback were always conveyed. The layout of our property and our design objectives provided some extremely creative challenges. Extreme measures were taken by the construction staff to work within our confined construction areas assuring unnecessary damage to surrounding plants, trees, housing, driveway, water line and roof drainage. The staff worked around our pets’ accessibility to share the outside space while construction was underway. The design of the extended patio layout, pet area and walkway were artistically and cleverly incorporated into the surrounding landscape. Because of our hilly terrain, mobility and space for construction equipment was severely limited, but the staff made every effort to be respectful of areas that were not part of the central design. Their engineering skills for patio design were amazing. The accuracy of the interplay between the various sections of the design fit-in as perfect parts of a puzzle. Attention to detail was highly maintained. Cleanup and any required restoration of the property were managed perfectly. We have been using the area for several months now through the Fall and Winter (2017-18) and have not experienced any post construction concerns. This included three different rain water management issues that we had to address in the layout design. If any issue did arise during the construction process there was total communications between staff and management with always a definitive response. Getting back to our original comment about attitude, we would have to repeat once again how we were impressed with the construction staff and office staff throughout the entire construction period. The results of the final project is a proud comment of their work ethic, communications and skills. If you wish to discuss further our experience with Trevor Landscaping, please contact Trevor and he will provide you with our contact information. All the best with your landscape project! Santiago offered a very fair price and completed my leaf cleaning and removal exactly as agreed upon. He was on time and lived up to every commitment he made. He is a very experienced landscaper and we already discussed having his team maintain and cut my lawn next season. This area has many lawn maintenance companies doing a lot of business without taking great pride in their work. I recommend speaking to Santiago before signing any agreements for 2018.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
