I hired Bryan and his team to break down and remove large furniture pieces and perform small household repairs. Bryan is very responsive, which makes everything easier, from scheduling to billing, to addressing any changes that came up during the job. He is professional, reasonable, and has clear integrity and pride in his work, which was performed skillfully and neatly at a fair price. They showed up on time and were pleasant and personable. Couldn't ask for anything more! Highly recommend.

My mom hired Anthony Pino to totally renovate 4 condos in Stone Harbor, NJ. He did all the demolition, sheet rock, tile work, painting, and refinishing. His work is impeccable and he pays great attention to detail. He is very responsible and easy to work with, and he even finished the project 2 weeks ahead of schedule. His work is high quality at an affordable price. I would highly recommend his services to other people.

I was so thankful to find Rick! I had several different woodworkers come out to quote my job. They were ridiculously overpriced! I needed a bookcase/office unit. I originally thought I would order something from Arhaus but the fit wasn't going to be perfect for the price. Rick showed me his work and I was immediately impressed. After a few sketches he was able to design build and install exactly what I wanted. He was very professional and patient with me. I changed a few things along the way. I appreciated the fact that he thought through details I didn't even think of. (Proper draws for files, ventilation for my router, proper spacing for return vents on my wall so unit didn't interfere.) Definitely worth the money and the minimal wait for custom work.

Pete Buechle, founder and owner of Woodsmith Construction, has done numerous residential and commercial jobs for my company. He brings a sense of true professionalism to every project he takes on. Peter himself is an exceptional craftsman and finished carpenter in additional to his keen, well-rounded general construction and renovation skills. His pricing is fair, he's a straight shooter, his job sites are neat and clean, he's always on-time or early to the job, he returns calls and texts in a timely manner and is extremely trustworthy. Pete has a "can do" approach to construction but he'll also tell you what you can or can't do and what you should or shouldn't do. Peter takes pride in his good business, design and construction sense and uses his years of experience to guide his clients into making wise budgetary decisions for their construction projects. One of the best contractors I have ever met. He consistently exceeds my expectations for excellence in his field.

I hired Ray to repair the woodwork surrounding a bay window in my farmhouse that my dog had destroyed. He was prompt in his reply, provided a fair estimate, completed the work on time and was professional and friendly. Importantly, his expertise left the windowsill looking as good as new at a fair price. I highly recommend Ray's services and, in fact, have asked him to bid on a larger project.

I feel that my work has a personal quality of character and perfection.

We are builders specializing in residential renovation, restoration and woodworking. Our work is of the highest quality. I or my partner personally perform all work involving carpentry and hardware. On large projects we take personal responsibility for scheduling and quality control. Whether small or large, we are highly involved in all aspects of all work performed. We also take great care of the homes we have been entrusted to work in. In addition we can provide references and photographs for many types of projects. If you have any building or woodworking projects we would be glad to be of service. We are available to discuss any projects you may have and look forward to the privilege of working in your home. There are two things we enjoy about our work. One is the process and the second is the result. The process involves design, research, specification, problem solving, and managing in addition to physically performing the work. All these areas are crucial to the successful completion of a project. Second, the result is the completed work which is a testament to the planning and craftsmanship that goes into a project. The feeling of restoring or building something and knowing it will stand for many years is very satisfying.

Adam Rung Woodworks is a full service woodworking shop dedicated to creating pieces that are functional, beautiful, and eco-friendly. We specialize in custom furniture and cabinetry, designed specifically to meet the needs of our clients. Aside from working with private clients, we regularly work with interior designers and architects on a vast range of projects. We offer historical reproductions, furniture prototyping, doors, stairs, moldings, kitchens, built-ins, vanities and floors. At Adam Rung Woodworks, we believe that it is imperative to be ecologically responsible. Selling and buying locally, green materials and recycling are all part of the equation. All the waste produced in the shop are recycled. Usable scrap wood is made into cutting boards, jewelry boxes and mirrors. Smaller scrap wood is burned in wood stoves, and sawdust is given to local horse farms for bedding. Moreover, the shop is powered by PECO wind energy. We utilize domestic hardwoods such as walnut, cherry and maple, which are all harvested in the Mid-Atlantic region. We salvage and reclaim various materials for our projects. We also offer panel goods made from eco-friendly materials and low V.O.C. finishes. We can work with a design you already have in mind, or design something new specifically for you. Feel free to call or email with any questions. Thanks! Adam Rung Woodworks

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

    Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
