I asked Christine to help me with my four month old Mini Jack Russell Terrier. Just in one day, Christine helped me to train my dog which had improved my dog's behavior. Christine has a lot of patience, knowledge, and understanding of many dog breeds. I highly recommend Christine for anyone who needs assistance with his/her dog. Hiring Christine will provide you with invaluable tools to raise a great dog.

Scooby Doos House of Play came into our home to help with our aggressive dog. Dee Dee took control of our situation and eased my nervousness immediately. She taught us basic behaviors as well as helped us use an electronic collar to modify our German Sheppards behavior successfully. She was great with our dog...as well as with us!:)

We had rescued an 8 year old 100+ lb hound/rott mix. She is such a sweet girl, but I was concerned about my young son around her. Jen came in and taught us how to get control over her mind, since her body is too large! Even after just one session with Jen, i can see a TREMENDOUS improvement in Lola's behavior! Jen knows her stuff and our dogs just loved her! Will definitely continue working with Jen. Thanks, Jen!

After trying several other pet services, Fetch Pet Care was the only one I felt 100% happy with. My pet recieved all of the love and attention she deserved. With Fetch, it is not just a job. They truely love and care for their animals. I trust Fetch and would not ever go to another service. Thank you Beth for giving me peace of mind.

I took my 3 year old rescue pup for a behavior evaluation, and though we didnt work any specific training that day , talking through my concerns with the trainers made a world of difference for me. Because of their professionalism, knowledge, and approach to training, I walked out more confident as an owner which helped me work with my dog better. Im enrolling my pup in the basic obedience package.

Lisa has been stopping by my home to walk my pup for about a month now and I could not be more happy with her service. My dog can be difficult, and does not easily trust new faces, but I can tell that she enjoys Lisa's visits just by how calm she is when I get home. Lisa also takes the time to write notes about her visit each day, which really means a lot to me since sometimes my long work hours keep my from my pup longer than I'd like. I would HIGHLY recommend Lisa to anyone looking for a qualified individual to spend time with their animal.

We use Aunt Penny's Fur Heaven for our pet sitting needs and to us it is a gift from heaven! For years we could not find a place where we felt comfortable leaving our 2 beagles. They would be stressed and upset and not get the one on one attention we feel they deserved. But then we found Aunt Penny and Fur Heaven and all that changed the instant the dogs arrived! It is a relaxing, home environment and most importantly they are the only dogs in it so they receive the utmost care and attention. Penny plays games with them and provides a comforting, stress free environment. When we drop off and pick up our dogs they are completely relaxed and happy. We can finally not feel guilty or stressed when we have to leave them. Plus Aunt Penny keeps in touch with us via pictures, texts, and videos showing what a great time the dogs are having. Penny is VERY professional and we always learn something every visit that can help our dogs at home as well. I have also attended a few of Aunt Penny's classes and they are extremely well done. You learn A LOT about dogs and dog behavior that is extremely helpful! I highly recommend all of Aunt Penny's services.

Erin watched my cat for me during a week long vacation. She came to the house daily and took care of our cat, played with her, fed her/etc, and brought in our mail. She was very thoughtful, friendly, and trustworthy. She clearly loves animals. Our cat was much happier this time when we came home from our trip! Would definitely recommend her.

Stephinie is just absolutely fabulous with my precious pup. Not only does he love her visits, she also takes the time to work on behaviors/habits that I want my dog to learn and sustain. She is almost like a dog walker/ playmate and trainer all rolled into one :-) I cannot say enough good things about Stephinie.

Splash'n Dash is a great place! As a new student, my Bernese Mountain Dog, Thor, was warmly welcomed into his new beginner agility class. Thor is a very energetic and social 2 year old pup. Because of this, he tends to get distracted very easily in his classes. His previous school and teacher did not treat him well because of this. He was often berated and made to seem like there was something wrong with him. Because of this, we left and that is when we found Splash'n Dash. How lucky we were! Thor's new teachers treat him so nicely and continue to have so much patience with him. He was welcomed into his agility class and we immediately felt right at home. He has thrived in agility over the last year and really looks forward to his weekly class. Each class session has been an enriching experience and Thor has learned so many valuable skills and behaviors - and there are still classes he has yet to try out and explore! Also, the classes are also an incredible value for the price and the teachers are so knowledgeable and friendly. If you are looking for a warm, welcoming (and fun!) learning environment for you and your dog, look no further than Splash'n Dash!

we felt our Rottweiler (10 mos old ) behavior was out of control. He worked with him for awhile & Gunner responded well. He gave us several tips on how we can work with him on our own. He also brought a junior trainer with him to see how Gunner responded to kids. Which I thought was a great idea. I feel he did a great job & look forward to working with Adam again.

He has given me great information and tips covering many different areas of my dog's reactions. Jess took great care with my two dogs and cat while we were on vacation. I knew from the moment I met her that the animals would quickly adapt to her caring for them. They instantly fell in love with her wonderful personality and passion for animals. Dependable, caring, and affordable. Highly recommend.

    About

I treat animals better than most people treat their own kids. I care for them all like they are my own. I've have 10 years zoo experience working with Goats, Sheep, Reptiles, Deer, Kangaroo, Koi and Small Mammals. As for Dogs & Cats other than your basic "I've owned them" I worked at a dog kennel/daycare for 5 years from handler to GM. I have training and only enforce positive reinforcing. I look at everything through their eyes and will not put them second; their needs are always first! If i get home they get let out and eat before i do either of those things.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

    • What type of training methods do you use?
    • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
    • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
