I was so lucky to find Erica in Thumbtack! I hired her to clean my parents' house after they took care of my large dog all summer and she did an outstanding job! My parents were delighted to see the detailed, meticulous cleaning she did over their whole house. She got all the nooks and crannies, including the grout in the bathroom tiles. My Mom said she's never seen her countertops shine the way they do now! Needless to say, we will definitely be hiring Erica again!

Mud Puppies is the best place I have ever taken my puppy. Kim and her staff are very kind and always find me an answer to any question I have. Her facility is state of the art and the cleanest place in town! I would have lunch at her facility before alot of restaurants in town!! Thank you Kim and your entire staff for being so professional and so dog hearted!!

Lynne watched our dog "aussie" for several days while we were away on a vacation. She did a wonderful job - how do I know? Aussie seems more excited to see her than me. I would highly recommend this service.

Kyrie is very professional and knowledgeable. She sent me an update to let me know how my dog was settling in and after she sent regular updates. She is very responsive to messages. My dog came home happy and tired. I would highly recommend her.

Kassi was amazing! We were sad to see her go. We moved into a large two story, three bedroom house, and didn't realize just how much care it would take to keep it clean. We loved Kassi from the very begging. Upon meeting with us she was very professional, and together we created a schedule that we both liked. She was great! Whenever she would leave the place was absolutely spotless and we were left with a checklist of what she had done. She was very flexible and loving to our animals. We have a dog a cat and a Guinea pig. She even did pet sitting for us a couple of times, when we had to go out of town. She was so wonderful with Ivy (our dog.) I can't reccomend her enough. And Kassi if you ever come back to Pittsburgh we would love to have you again!

I work with you and your pet to ensure a well-behaved, socialized, and manageable pet who is a pleasure to be around.

My work stands out because I understand the animals and what they need. I am also young and can keep up with them and take them running and playing. I have been around animals my whole life and have three dogs of my own. I understand not everyone has time to walk or play with their dogs while working; that's where i come in.

I will do pet sitting, walking and feeding. I will stay with your pets when you're sick or while you're at work or on vacation.

I like to walk dogs around the street where I live on. I can walk dogs down my street. It is a hill. That is it.

I will walk your dog and add a refreshing drink after the long, tiring walk. I will make sure that your dog is fine during the walk. All I can really say is you can trust me.

I offer weekly classes. My puppy class of six weeks long for ages eight weeks to five months covers manners, leave it, controlled walking, starting recalls, and sit and down stay. My basic class of eight weeks long for ages six months and up covers heeling, recalls, sit and down stay, stand, manners, leave it, and more.

Do you need your dog exercised? Are you going away on vacation? I will walk your pet or pet sit while you're away. I have more than 30 years of experience with dogs, cats and horses.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
