"Was in town for a work convention, she was extremely responsive and we planned this before I came down to the area as well as once I got down there. She was able to see me early enough before I had to work and so that it worked for her as well. Very prompt. Phenomenal massage as well, any time I’m in the area I will be calling her for sure. Ignore the negative reviews. Their garbage and fake."

"Steven is an excellent massage therapist. He has worked on me several times over the last couple months and I intend to use him again. He is very caring and thoughtful, and works diligently on any problem areas. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable with a new massage therapist, but Steven makes sure you are comfortable with him and puts you at ease. I have gotten massages from many massage therapists and can state that he is at the top of the list. I highly recommend him."

"Brian was responsive to my inquiry, upfront about fee for 90 minute Thai Massage. Traditional Thai Massage in not like your typical Swedish or Deep Tissue massage. If you play sports, bike, run etc you would benefit from one of Brian’s sessions. I almost fell asleep during the session. Very relaxing, wipes away stress, you forget about everything. I highly recommend his service."

"Had an incredible massage with Keyon from Extreme Bodyworks. I would highly recommend his services to anyone looking for alleviation from pain due to tight, sore, aching muscles or for anyone looking to increase their flexibility. Turns out I had muscle adhesions n my back, neck and shoulders and Keyon took his time working out the knots with the right amount of pressure. The use of hot stones and hot towels was a nice touch. Very professional setting and looking forward to going back. Five stars...."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
