Specific behaviors to address
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I strive to empower dog owners by teaching the actions and language every dog understands. Essentially the owner becomes the leader enabling the dog to become pleasure to own. My lifelong experience handling dogs, horses and animals of all types gives me an advantage over many trainers with a franchise or pet store. Explanations of dog' behaviors and how to communicate in ways the dog understands is the basis of my goal. Many times, dog owners are unaware the everyday routine is insufficient; this is often the root of their pet's issues. I am always looking to find new environment to expand dog and handler situations. For example, the idea to go to a park with the dog is impossible simply because "we can't get her in the car..." So, maybe we fix that first.. I try to create the problems the dog is having in order to demonstrate how to effectivly correct it. Clients are then equipt to handle the dog with precise actions the animal clearly understands! What I enjoy most about the work I do is the reaction a client gives when they discover their own abilities to control their dog! Most often, the client doesn't realize to simply adjust their own actions or reactions will change their dog's behavior. Many people perceive a dog's behavior and correlate it to a human behavior... Huge misinterpretation! For example, a dog that yawns isn't necessarily tired! Having the dog owner make a few simple adjustments, they can see an immediate improvment in the dog after one visit. Astonished by their new ability, clients are enthused to move forward , creating peace in the kingdom once again..Love it!

Diane responded to our inquiry very quickly and came to our house the very same day to help us. She is very knowledgeable and our dog began to get better almost immediately. I would recommend her to anyone needing dog training services.

Diane is able to get Oscar to do the things that I have not been able to do. It all takes time and patience on both the dog and I. She is a great teacher and will continue to have her as a dog trainer.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Prefer to initially speak on the phone to get some details and set up appointment. Upon first meeting, I immediately begin to help people understand their dog's behavior as well as their own behavior with the dog. Many factors are taken into consideration such as environment, diet, exercise, routines and triggers that may effect behavior. From there we devise a manageable plan and implement immediately. I like to give some time to focus on as few target issues before moving on. I also will devise an affordable cost for several sessions over a period of time.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have developed my "self taught" methods over a lifetime. As a child, my mother bred Great Danes; by the age of 7, I was in the show ring with dogs larger than me and was awarded several first place ribbons as a Jr Handler. (Of course, our Danes were amazing, so that was helpful!) As time passed, I wanted to know about all dog breeds and their standards for disposition and physical expectations. I find to understand a breed's origination and purpose originally for humans is paramount to fully understand its behavior. This insight is critical to plan the best course of action. I soon found people asking me questions about their various pets because "you know so much" about animals. Requests for walking, bathing, wound care, grooming, or training, they always found a solution from my methods. A lifetime of experiences helping others with their pets, as well as my own, turned into a passion. To be official, I am now working on my CPDT certification as a pet dog trainer... Feel free to investigate this rigorous program! I'm challenging this course for my own, personal satisfaction as well as the accreditation.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've always done anything to help someone with a dog issue. I actually began this professionally after the death of my own dog."Blaze", a liver spotted dalmatian. She was such an important factor in my life. Through her I learned what it means to have a four legged partner... to simply OWN a dog and leave it home was not my idea of giving one a life full of experiences and balance every dog needs.
