1. Hanging a address name plate on a brick house 2. hanging a piece of art work that weighed 70 lbs on a interior wall 3. strip and repair caulking seam around base of shower and repair shower door. Mr. Shingleton responded to phone calls and text in a quick manner. Shingleton was polite proffessional , and cleaned up his work area as well as listened to what I the customer wanted and gave great ideas to help with the project. Shingleton was a pleasure doing business with and got the job done right the first time.

Hired to paint ceiling and walls in master suite. Reasonably priced and quality of work is excellent. We found a few holes hidden in the wall. Crew was able to patch for a nominal charge. Painter came back and did some touch up after everything dried and finished patching the drywall. Would hire again.

Leo was awesome. Ordered a bed which came un-assembled. And when I say un-assembled, I mean the bed arrived in a box with a bunch of wood and hardware - it was like someone took a puzzle, dumped it in a box and mailed it to me. When I opened it I freaked! There was no way I was going to even try to tackle this. I kept putting it off and putting it off because I didn't want to deal with putting that thing together. Needless to say I am not mechanically inclined, nor do I claim or care to be. I advertised the project online and Leo responded with the fairest price for the job AND was the most professional person to respond. After the project was finished, in record time and completely perfect I might add, we asked him if he would be interested in completing other projects in our home - we have so many things that need fixed, repaired, installed etc. Bathroom, bedroom, kitchen - you name it. My father is in poor health lately and, although very mechanically inclined, is unable to fix, repair and install things like he used to. Therefore, a lot of things are in disrepair and there exists a lot of uncompleted projects. We decided that we could really use a guy like Leo. We asked him about painting a few rooms. He gave us a fair estimate and we know, if he continues to work for us, will produce nothing but the best! He actually just called to make sure that we receive his estimate. I spoke with him and, again, he is very professional, and he made sure he followed-up with a formal estimate for the painting job we had asked about in a timely fashion. I am glad he called, because, although I kept thinking, "I need to leave Leo a review," I kept being interrupted by other things. So, to sum it up, if you need a professional handyman/jack-of-all-trades, able to fix, install, repair, etc. (and don't be afraid to ask him if he is willing or able to do a certain project - he is forthright and capable, with big jobs or small), don't just consider Leo, HIRE him already, for goodness sake! PS: My father is about the pickiest person ever created and EVEN HE WAS SATISFIED with Leo and his work...how about that?

Repairs to parts of the living room wall were necessary due to drywall tape coming off. Also in one bathroom there was a gap between the tub and tile floor. Tom fixed all the problem areas to my satisfaction. Between the work and the initial consult he made 3 visits and was there at the time he said he would be each time. He explained what he was going to do thoroughly and finished in a timely manner. I would definitely use Tom's services again and would recommend him to others.

Jason did a fantastic job installing drywall on a third floor addition. I am very picky about drywall and want no imperfections. I do not want to see any seams or any mud marks. Jason's drywall work met all my expectations and even exceeded them. I have already hired Jason to work on a few other projects I needed done because I was so pleased with the job he and his crew did. I would highly recommend Jason to other homeowners.

The only person I trust to work with my family for any home improvement! If he hadn't helped us last winter I don't think we would have made it. He can do any repairs and he will work with you. He replaced all my water lines, installed new floating flooring, changed out an old electric box for a new one, all new furnace, all new roof. He can tackle the most simple of electrical work to the most advanced house repairs, with ease and is super efficient with time!

We had just purchased an old house and wanted the old wallpaper stripped and the walls repainted in all of the closets. However, we needed this done before we moved in. Derek was able to make it work. He absolutely went above and beyond when he repaired the walls. Derek was so great to work with. He's professional, punctual, and so responsive. We look forward to hiring him again.

Met Jesse purchasing paint at Sherwin Williams. He was flexible with my schedule and fit me into his schedule soon after meeting. He initially painted a high stairwell and hall but was able to return in a couple of days to do additional work including ceiling drywall repair and trim painting. He was very professional but easy going and we easily negotiated a fair price. I would certainly consider him for future work.

Bobby undertook a gigantic project for us that including fully finishing our basement from the ground up and a kitchen gut and remodel. Bobby was always on top of things and was patient and attentive when I wanted to talk about the project status. He fixed numerous mistakes that other contractors made without asking for anything. He ended up making a custom shower pan for us due to the mistake of one of the contractors and it turned out absolutely beautiful. His employees and subcontractors were also very kind and respectful especially the drywall finisher. The project ended up running a little bit longer than either of us would have liked but other than that the craftsmanship and quality of work was very good.

This turned into a chimney repair project. I was getting leaks into my home every time there was a hard rain. Thought it was caused by my gutters and downspouts backing up. Leak was apparently caused by cracks in fireplace.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
