Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I create rooms that are meant to be lived in. I am a calm person, who listens well. I prefer to work with clients who communicate well and can be decisive. I often help people understand their taste and style preferences. Most of my clients are cost conscious and I will work within a defined budget. My hourly fee is $75, however I prefer to work with a fixed fee for my services and a budget for products. To do this I must understand all aspects of the project and know my client expectations. I hold a degree in Interior Design and am a member of IFDA, Philadelphia Chapter. I meet often with other designers to learn about new products and concepts in our industry. And I grew up exposed to construction workers and blueprints as my father operated a construction and paperhanging business from home. Also, I am an artist, and taught art in public schools. I have been an independent designer for the last 7 years, with a total of about 25 years previous to that in the decorating field. For me, helping my clients surround themselves with comfort and beauty,is a calling. When you are anticipating hiring a professional to help you I believe that it is important that you feel comfortable with that person-credentials are important, but so is communication. Do all of their designed spaces look alike-if so, are you happy with that look? Will the designer explain how they will work with you,and will that business approach meet your needs. Is there any flexibility to their approach? In both residential and small commercial spaces, I design for comfort and pizazz. I evaluate the space and work with my client to satisfy what they perceive the space needs and what they personally like. I now do consultations only, and no longer sell any products.treatments, I will design a space from concept to completion, including door and window placement, wall treatments, color choices and coordination, flooring, furniture placement, all types of custom & ready-made window coverings, art and accessories. My most typical job involves a consultation for placement of furnishings and, color selection & coordination. Often I select accessories including placing them and hanging art. And window coverings from simple to very complex is very often included. I often work with those who do much of the physical work. Most of my works are somewhat traditional, with a slight contemporary edge. Because I design for my client's taste, I use many colors and textures, and I have successfully done many looks. Some recent jobs I have done: 1.) Selected all of the colors for a first floor 15 room home where they are all connected by hall, balcony and ceiling. 2.) Designed the remodeling of a kitchen, coat closet, powder room, entry from the garage with the conversion of a back porch into a year round family room. This included the selection of flooring, paint, cabinetry door style, the design of steps with redesign of doorway, and furniture plans for the spaces. 3) Designed, coordinated and procured the new decorating of small living & dining room of a small home. This involved a totally new floor plan. New flooring, paint, window coverings and decorative pillows, upholstery, refinishing of dining room set, art, plants and floral arrangements, lighting, and small accessories. 4) Helped clients with downsizing. This involved taking inventory of existing furnishings and studying blueprints of new spaces;creating floor plans and selecting what would fit; educating the client about the new space; attending the selection of finishes meeting with the builders, coordinating the selections; on moving day seeing that furnishings were placed correctly, hanging art work in the new place; and designing, creating & installing window coverings & treatments. I'd love to get started with helping YOU!

Inviting Mrs. WIlson into my small cabin in the woods for a consultation changed my existence in a space that I knew had potential, but that I had struggled with for months. Though I did not feel ready to ask anyone over for even a friendly visit in my cluttered space, I took a chance, and found her professional demeanor, obvious know-how, and non-judgmental attitude was just what I needed to get going. On my first visit, I found her approach of measuring the dimensions of the small space and every piece of furniture in it; discussing flow elements and style of living; her use of floor planning tools; and her ability to employ an array of solutions to make suggestions I hadn't thought of, I came away confident in her services. She made several diagrams by the second visit (three days later), allowing me to consider options without having to move the heavy pieces to envision new floor plans. It was a smooth process that I would recommend to anyone in search of revamping their space: whether new or not, it will be an entirely refreshing experience.

Before moving from a big house to an apartment in June 2007, Lois Wilson met with us. She wanted to learn : how we use our rooms; what are needs are expected to be in the smaller environment; what we must keep; what can be discarded; what we'd wish to replace. Lois made scale drawings of the apartment and our furniture, then provided several alternative room arrangements for consideration. We did argue over two items that we refused to give up. She feared that they might not clear the ceilings but she did work them into an option. The most surprising thing was how she combined furnishings from different rooms that we'd never have realized could work together. They do, beautifully. Daily, I'm grateful for Lois' input. Her understanding of what you'd would want/need in each area enlightened us and the space of each room where her careful measurements directed high hat ceiling light installations in just the perfect spot in each room. In addition, several tips contribute to ease of daily living--place for keys and messages near the phone. She hung our art work and family pictures, and arranged knickknacks. She guided us in selection of replacement recliners, dining room fixture, computer desk, bar stools, and dining table. She designed creative window treatments and had them made and installed. Each element is comfortable and wins admiring comments from all who see them. Yours truly, Joan Garber

My husband and I were adding a room onto the back of our house and trying to decide whether or not to renovate the kitchen. I insisted on hiring an Interior Designer and he found Lois. I had preconceived notions of what an "Interior Designer" might be like as we've all watched TV shows about home remodeling, and most of us would be led to believe that only the rich hire them. However, Lois was nothing that I would've expected and really got me excited about redoing the home we bought new 21 years ago. She interviewed us, which I didn't expect and we spent a few hours getting to know each other...what our expectations were, what we were looking for, etc. We started out asking for her help in picking colors and arranging furniture in our new addition. She returned a week later with our color selections and some sample fabrics she thought would work and we never turned back. I refer to Lois as the "color-whisperer"....She has this uncanny ability to pick out just the right color for any room of your house. And these are not just any color... They are YOUR colors! It's as if she's known you forever. Her knowledge and skills are unmatched. I watched her in awe walk around my home for an hour moving color samples all over...holding them up, rearranging them like a deck of cards, and like a magician - - - she presents you with the choices. We ended up redoing the kitchen (everything..down to the studs) and renovating the entire first floor with new flooring, paint, trim, etc. We removed a wall at her suggestion and created an inviting entrance (from the garage...we don't come in through our front door) with room to move. I now have a hall closet that my home lacked. Lois also helped us with window treatments in our new family room. We had installed wall to wall windows and didn't want to cover them up entirely as we really wanted to keep our views of the outside. She suggested solar shades.. brought over samples, and her installer hung them up. I would never do any remodeling without Lois.

Lois has performed several services for us. She found valences and bedspread for our master bedroom that are beautifully crafted. She arranged for the installation and all went smoothly. We also recently had the interior of our whole house repainted and she selected the colors. I am not a beige person, and she found neutral colors that were pleasing to me and my family. She also has helped me with carpet selection in two different rooms. Lois is very professional and is able to come up with a solution that fits your taste and enhances your home.

Lois Wilson is my mother so she has helped me with many interior design projects over the years. Comments on several noteworthy projects follow: Basement apartment: she helped me convert part of my basement into a studio apartment for rent with a separate entrance. Her role included design/floor plan, construction management, faux painting, material selection, and furniture arrangement. The apartment rented quickly and has been occupied consistently. Nursery: planned baby nursery complete with custom painting to complement bedding/theme of forest animals. Cosy baby haven was created and enjoyed for years! Hire her, she won't disappoint!
