Introduction: I create rooms that are meant to be lived in. I am a calm person, who listens well. I prefer to work with clients who communicate well and can be decisive. I often help people understand their taste and style preferences. Most of my clients are cost conscious and I will work within a defined budget. My hourly fee is $75, however I prefer to work with a fixed fee for my services and a budget for products. To do this I must understand all aspects of the project and know my client expectations.
I hold a degree in Interior Design and am a member of IFDA, Philadelphia Chapter. I meet often with other designers to learn about new products and concepts in our industry. And I grew up exposed to construction workers and blueprints as my father operated a construction and paperhanging business from home. Also, I am an artist, and taught art in public schools. I have been an independent designer for the last 7 years, with a total of about 25 years previous to that in the decorating field. For me, helping my clients surround themselves with comfort and beauty,is a calling.
When you are anticipating hiring a professional to help you I believe that it is important that you feel comfortable with that person-credentials are important, but so is communication. Do all of their designed spaces look alike-if so, are you happy with that look? Will the designer explain how they will work with you,and will that business approach meet your needs. Is there any flexibility to their approach?
In both residential and small commercial spaces, I design for comfort and pizazz. I evaluate the space and work with my client to satisfy what they perceive the space needs and what they personally like. I now do consultations only, and no longer sell any products.treatments, I will design a space from concept to completion, including door and window placement, wall treatments, color choices and coordination, flooring, furniture placement, all types of custom & ready-made window coverings, art and accessories.
My most typical job involves a consultation for placement of furnishings and, color selection & coordination. Often I select accessories including placing them and hanging art. And window coverings from simple to very complex is very often included. I often work with those who do much of the physical work.
Most of my works are somewhat traditional, with a slight contemporary edge. Because I design for my client's taste, I use many colors and textures, and I have successfully done many looks.
Some recent jobs I have done:
1.) Selected all of the colors for a first floor 15 room home where they are all connected by hall, balcony and ceiling.
2.) Designed the remodeling of a kitchen, coat closet, powder room, entry from the garage with the conversion of a back porch into a year round family room. This included the selection of flooring, paint, cabinetry door style, the design of steps with redesign of doorway, and furniture plans for the spaces.
3) Designed, coordinated and procured the new decorating of small living & dining room of a small home. This involved a totally new floor plan. New flooring, paint, window coverings and decorative pillows, upholstery, refinishing of dining room set, art, plants and floral arrangements, lighting, and small accessories.
4) Helped clients with downsizing. This involved taking inventory of existing furnishings and studying blueprints of new spaces;creating floor plans and selecting what would fit; educating the client about the new space; attending the selection of finishes meeting with the builders, coordinating the selections; on moving day seeing that furnishings were placed correctly, hanging art work in the new place; and designing, creating & installing window coverings & treatments.
