Great and very professional job on a bathroom remodel. We hadn't planned to get a remodel so soon in our new house, but had a leak and learned that the original contractor didn't do the tub / tiling properly. ADAD quickly assessed the problem and worked with us to develop a solution. They started the job very soon after we agreed to hire them. Resetting our tub and retiling the shower area took about three days, plus an extra hour or so to patch up some remaining issues. The company's leader, William, was very responsive to our requests and concerns throughout, and made sure we were happy with the work before declaring the job done. He was also upfront about how different options would affect the final price. And for the mobile savvy, they take Venmo payments! Overall, we're happy with the end result.

I have a Cement Spanish Tile roof that was leaking. Sherman Keller came and documented the problems with photos and a detailed write up of the work needed. He did the repair when he said and did a clean, efficient and professional job when he said he would. I would call him again and recommend him to my friends and neighbors.

Mike has done several jobs for us. His work is of excellent quality, with exceptional finish work. His pricing is a very good value. He is very trustworthy, the only contractor that I have felt comfortable leaving alone in our home. His crew is great to work with, except the mason doing our tile work was rarely punctual, which was frustrating, but he does great work.

Rick from COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION did renovation of our condo. Our apartment was completely destroyed by tenants who lived there and Rick made it look like new again. He renovated bathroom by putting new tile, bath tub vanity and plumbing. It looks great, work is very accurate and fast. He also renovated our kitchen by installing new cabinets, counter top, floor tile and pained our apartment. We are very happy with revolts. no job is to big or small for him. He does all the work himself from plumbing to tile work and general construction. I also call Rick for any handyman services and he does a great job. He is honest and dependable

Abott construction was hired to do 2 projects: 1) repointing of chimney w/ chimney cap installation and 2) roof leak repair Mark of Abott Construction was very quick with his corresondence. He is there when he says he will be there, even if it was freezing cold he was working up on the roof! He was the only roofer/contractor who suggested trying to repair the leak or save the roof first before replacing. He is trying his best to buy us a couple of years before spending the big money that a whole roof replacement will cost. Mark asked me to go on the roof with him so he can show me what he had done to the chimney and roof and we did a water test to check for garage roof leak. We ran the water from the hose for a good 15mins and it passed the leak test! No water leaking in the garage! The following day we got a verybad rain, it was raining non stop for 24hrs. Unfortunately after a good 3hours of heavy rain the garage started leaking again, Mark is trying his best to save the roof, he said he will try 1 more time to seal more of the shingles and see what that does,we are still awaiting a decent non snowy/rain/freezing weather conditions for him to try 1 last time. Fair pricing, fast correspondence, easy to talk to and dependable( will be there at your house if he says he will be there) job is finished on the amount of days he said it will take the job to be finished.

Jim was called in to remove some freestanding cabinetry, demolish a chest-high room parition, and replace the vinyl tiles beneath both in a commercial setting. Jim was very responsive, both visiting us and givingus an estimate within 24 hours. He was also able to schedule to do the work within 24 hours of our agreeing to the estimate. Leaving virtually no mess, the cabinetry and partition were removed and the floor seemlessly repaired in about eight hours. He didn't mark up materials and his rates are very affordable. I would happily recommend Jim for both demolition and construction work. He was knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, and fairly priced.

When my mother's roof leaked after the last storm, I looked around and this company had excellent reviews on all the sites I went to, and a great rating. I can see why. Even though they were busy after the storm, Joseph came out promptly to estimate the job. We'll likely need a big job of new underlayment done in the next few years, but he did not try to sell the big repair. They gave us a reasonable price for fixing the leak and some cracked tiles. The estimate included photos showing what needed to be done. Joseph answered my questions in email and then called to make sure I was satisfied with all the answers. The work was done by a 2-person crew within a week and Joseph went out and inspected it. Of course, not knowing anything about roofing, I can't say much about the repair, but the work is warrantied, so I have no worries. I would definitely use them again. Thanks, Joseph!

We bought our split house in Middle Island last summer which we've noticed the window leaks in the bathroom. I've looked around for a handyman in the trader to replace the window and tile but they were all flybyes and not professional enough for our sake. My son's friend Jake said his parents used real deals remodeling to redo their basement and we're completely satisfied, so I gave them a call for an estimate, which they gave no strings attached and gave a much better price than allure. I researched real deals remodeling and found out they stick by there work and their customers were very happy based on that. So I made a real deal and couldn't be happier. They finished a two day job professionally and the workers showed me how to open the window correctly. I had my son Cody watch how to because he is abrupt with almost everything. Thank you real deals my husband Jeff and I highly recommend your services and will be sure to call you for future construction needs. Susan Brown

We had a roof leak that caused drywall and hardwood floor damage. Excellent painters and did a good job with vinyl flooring. The family contractors did a great job at a reasonable price. Everything was restored to good as new. They are very hard and efficient workers. Very polite, start early and finish late. Maintain a very clean work area. They removed all trash and left a very orderly work area each day. We definitely would hire them again and recommend them to others.

Sam is the best contractor we have ever hired! He is on time, shows up when he says he will, is neat as a pin, cleans up at the end of every day, is incredibly hard-working, has great prices, doesn't impeccable work, is honest as the day is long even refunding us when things cost less than he estimated, he is well organized, even picked up supplies like crown molding from Lowes and Home Depot for us on several occasions, he answers his phone when you call or gets back to you very promptly, he owns his own business and has NO employees so he does all of the work HIMSELF - he doesn't send laborers, he built an entire addition on our house including the roof BY HIMSELF! He does EVERYTHING but granite countertops, plumbing and electric including hardwood floors and tile work! We even trust him enough to leave him alone in our house when we're out! He does everything with care and integrity! And he was not afraid to think outside of the box when we needed innovative solutions to achieve the desired look and building creations that we wanted! He did exactly what we asked him to do every step along the way! WE CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS GEM! Do we sound happy? We are! If we could give him 10 stars, we would! Do yourself a favor. Hire Sam Riccelli find out for yourself! (Wish we could show you pictures of our addition but we can't seem to get them to upload. We will simply say that it is very upscale and every single person who comes in, says how absolutely gorgeous it is! Their next question is, "Who was your contractor?")

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
