The Louis Pettinelli Quartet was everything I expected. They played at our wedding reception cocktail hour and all our guests stated how classy it was. We submitted specific songs and his band played it all. I appreciated how flexible and accommodating his was with our request. He was able to honor our desire for a 30 minute opening session with just the pianist and an hour performance with the whole band. I was very surprised when the sax player broke out the clarinet for one the songs. All the band members were professional and respectful. At the same time, you can tell they really enjoyed playing their set. I highly recommend Louis Pettinelli and his musical colleagues. He understands your needs and delivers it with the highest quality, professionalism and respect. Bands and musicians can learn a few things from Louis Pettinelli.

I called it "God's perfect timing! Here's our story...Our family, recently bowed our heads, as our 97 year old father, united with his family in Heaven. We were blessed to enjoy every single minute we spent together. God bless my dad, "Babe's" soul. I wanted to honor my dad, by having live music playing at his service, as my dad loved music... he had 3,001, 33 1/3 records. All his friends and family gathered to celebrate his adventurous life. Scott Samuels promptly contacted me after I left a message requesting a vocalist/guitarist! His professionalism is "above" all others. I have EVER met. The rest, is a moment in time, my memories will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you for creating this site for the world to utilize. Scott, you're a fantastic performer/true humanitarian. I could go on and on, but those memories are mine. Betsy, Babes baby "DAURTER" as dad would say!

I have been studying guitar and bass with Stevie now for six months. The progress I have made is remarkable! Stevie plays and teaches five instruments and I have had the pleasure of seeing him perform live........he brings that same enthusiasm and excitement to his students at C-Note music school. Previously I had studied with a few other teachers that used a " one size fits all" method, while Stevie''s lessons are custom fit and tailored specifically to meet my needs, abilities, and goals. I would recommend him to anyone looking to learn to become a musician!!!!!

Testimonial for David Joel, Guitar Instructor: My name is Ken and I have been playing guitar for 43 years since the age of 12. I took lessons for about 2 years at the very beginning. I never learned how to read music in the traditional sense, just tab. I have played in classic rock bands over the years. Several years ago I reached a point in my playing that I felt I could not get any better and was playing the same music, leads over and over again. I was convinced that all I could learn was what I could hear or was shown by other musicians. I knew I developed bad technique habits over the years as well. I wanted to get better and began looking for an instructor on-line and found David Joel. A brief review of David’s web-site indicated he was well-versed in all styles on electric, acoustic and classical guitar. The backbone of David’s approach is based on the Berklee Series Modern Method books by William Leavitt. It requires the guitarist to read and play music…something I never did and as it turns out contributed to my “illiteracy” or lack of language or “data” as David refers to music. In the 2 ½ years that I studied with David he completely changed my technique, increased my potential to play a variety of styles and improvise and helped me to achieve many of my goals as a player. He is amazingly encouraging and very real when it comes to students of all ages. I currently enjoy playing in a number of classic rock bands and praise band at church. Thanks David!

Rad and Kell played our wedding with their full band and the performance was spectacular. From the acoustic set during the cocktail hour, to the full band/DJ combo during the reception, each song sounded great and had everyone out on the floor dancing! Whether they cover songs or play original content, their unique sound makes each experience enjoyable and memorable. I can't wait until I can catch their next gig!

I truly can't begin to say enough wonderful things about this band. The exquisite music speaks for itself. Ron played at my wedding and the entire crowd still speaks about what a class act both he and his orchestra are. He not only had a littany of directions and partial MC-ing to do, but benevolently dealt with my sister who had planned some surprises as well. He is professional, patient, reliable, talented, friendly, accommodating, and downright fun. The band are highly talented musicians and good people. I recommend them highly!

This group is amazing. The music is intricate, and upbeat. The music weaves back and forth between each musician. You would never guess that the band leader is young by watching his professionalism. Their love for jazz is so apparent not only in the talent expressed in the music but it is a pleasure to watch them perform.

We fell in love with Dan from the get-go when we saw how great he was with Nolan and his vast knowledge and love of music. We are so impressed with how far Nolan has come with his Ukulele skills and ability to place his fingers on the strings for specific cords. Mr. Dan makes it all about the children. What is your kid into? Minecraft? Mr. Dan can make sheet music for it. Disney? Mr. Dan can make sheet music for it. Mr. Dan places the kids needs/wants first. Whatever it is that will get a child interested in picking up an instrument, Mr. Dan will do. One word to describe Mr. Dan is: Awesome. Okay a few more words: Patient, funny, down to earth, able to communicate with and engage children easily. One of the many reasons Mr. Dan is just so awesome: He comes to our house! I cannot stress enough how much of a help this is with having to drive the kids all over God’s green earth every day of the week. We are truly blessed to have this amazing music teacher in our lives. We look forward to many years of having Mr. Dan teach Nolan.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

        • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
        • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
        • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
