Introduction: The academic coach provides unbiased and independent support to families as they prepare their students for transition to trade and technical schools or college-level courses and while they work towards their associate and bachelor's degree. The academic coach assists families in determining their student's educational direction, providing guidance regarding programming in response to the participants' aptitude, interests, motivation, personal goals and academic needs of families with students from middle school all the way through applying to graduate school. Prior to engaging a tutor, the family needs to make sure that their student clearly understands the principle of how to study, approach academic content and to prepare for standardized test. Then the impact of tutoring is multiplied three times as the student has mastered the key principle of engagement prior to participating in one-on-one or group sessions that cover GED subjects or college courses like remedial math, remedial English, English 101, English 102, psychology, behavioral health courses, introductory biology and sociology. Families need direction in how to best prepare their student for assessments that include the following: * PSAT * SAT * MAT * LSAT * MSAT * GRE * GMAT * PRAXIS The academic coach provides instruction on how to develop relationships to local post-secondary institutions to ensure a smooth transition for families inclusive of assisting families with the college enrollment and completion of FASA process. It is important that students acknowledge their role in researching and developing methods for encouraging themselves as each move toward academic success. The academic coach can develop and facilitate the design of smart goals through individualized one-on-one sessions or participation in workshops on various topics to help families and students achieve their education and career goals.
