Nick gave us a very informative and interesting overview of Philadelphia. I particularly appreciated his detailed chronology of Philadelphia's history and his descriptions of the numerous accomplishments of Ben Franklin. I recommend him very highly.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing system is very straight forward. I charge a fixed price for each specific type of tour. Then I charge a flat per hour rate for any additional time added to the tour on the tour itself, schedule and time permitting.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I communicate with the new customer and try to find out exactly what they are interested and tailor the tour to their interests. Many don't have very specific ideas so I use my experience of leading over 300 tours to create a tour I am sure they will enjoy
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am the President of our local professional tour guide organization and participate in our annual lecture series where prominent historians present interesting topics. Our monthly meetings are also educational. I attend numerous public events about history and other subjects relevant to being a tour guide. I am a director of the Elfreth's Alley Association charged with preserving the history and appearance of the nation's oldest continually occupied residential street.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I spent may years in the computer industry as a programmer and a consultant. When I stopped working my wife suggested I would enjoy being a tour guide and that I had a lot to offer clients as a long-time Philadelphian.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Customized walking tours through the historic district of Philadephia; Tours along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway's Museum Mile and other customizable destinations. Bus step on tours also.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I gave a special tour to a former US representative and former German Bundestag member which involved coordinating with the National Park Service to get special 'bump the line' access for these VIPs
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Find a tour guide who will listen to you and accommodate any needs or interests you have. This will enable you to maximize the return on your investment.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
How experienced is this tour guide in the type of tour for which I am thinking about booking them? Should I pick the bid that offers the lowest price or should I accept a reasonably priced bid from a more seasoned guide?
