Mr. Gyuris built a custom TV wall unit for our bedroom. In October he came to my house & showed me numerous books of impressive photos of his work. He was very nice & his price seemed fair. We had to give a 50% deposit before work started, which we were reluctant about, but we did. Work was supposed to b completed by 12/15, which he forgot. When I didnt hear back, I called him in Nov to make sure he had us on schedule - yes, he said. Beginning Dec I called again to check when he was coming to make measurements. When the 15th arrived, he couldnt make it. Xmas arrives & he cant come cause his son is in town. The next week he cant come cause his son wants to stay longer & he wants to c his son. (I am leaving for Florida for the winter Jan. 8- I am distraught at this point & the relationship is tanked!). Now he says he cant come before I leave cause his wife isnt feeling well! I tell him GET YOUR A-- here & finish the job or my lawyer will b calling! He arrives days before I leave, drops the framing off & leaves! I want to tie him to my front door - (just kidding) - he promises he'll come back to put it together. He does; I have other contractors in the house & they r making faces at me as he begins sanding in my bedroom! He stays all day to complete the job. It looks very nice; however the paint job - it is white - was sprayed on & is not great. He charged us the full price at completion & my husband has to remind him he already has 50% of the $. Time to leave - his car wont start!!! Save yourself stress & aggrevation - look elsewhere! I gave him a "good" as his work is good, but certainly not worth the stress & aggrevation my husband & I endured!

Romayne, I'm sorry that you were unhappy with my inability to maintain the schedule that you expected. Sometimes unexpected life issues get in the way. However, I am thrilled that you were pleased with the quality of my work. It takes a lot of skill and knowledge to do custom woodworking. I do hope that you enjoyed your winter in Florida. I was so thankful to find Rick! I had several different woodworkers come out to quote my job. They were ridiculously overpriced! I needed a bookcase/office unit. I originally thought I would order something from Arhaus but the fit wasn't going to be perfect for the price. Rick showed me his work and I was immediately impressed. After a few sketches he was able to design build and install exactly what I wanted. He was very professional and patient with me. I changed a few things along the way. I appreciated the fact that he thought through details I didn't even think of. (Proper draws for files, ventilation for my router, proper spacing for return vents on my wall so unit didn't interfere.) Definitely worth the money and the minimal wait for custom work.

Rick created custom office bookcases and a custom window seat. The finished product is beautiful. Each piece has crown molding, trim details, and more. We are really pleased with the end result and will hopefully use Rick again for a project in the family room.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Homeowners and I will meet and discuss their project. If a sketch is necessary I will go home sketch it out and send it back for them to approve. If a homeowner chooses to hire me I then require them to sign a contract with a 50% deposit on their job. (A 50% deposit is required because the work is customized specifically for your project.)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I learned my skills from another Master Woodworker. I have been doing custom woodworking my entire adult life.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I believe it's very important to have a budget. When I know what budget my clients are working with I can make specific drawings for what they can afford. Verses showing them a lot of fancy extras that they might not necessarily want, need, or can afford.
