What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is based on the goals of each client and time required to perform these tasks. I meet with each client - the initial on-hour meeting is free of charge - and listen to their wishes. I walk them through a planning document that serves as a template for an informed estimate. I then provide them with an estimate in writing.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I plan and produce weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate gatherings, wine education evenings, and fundraising events for organizations in Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities.
Most of my clients request my help at the early stages of their planning and we work hand-in-hand throughout the planning process and on the date of the event and for the follow-up post event. I help them clarify the purpose of the event, help put structure to the planning process and help bring their dreams and ideas to fruition. If the client has a vision for the event, I make their vision a reality. If they prefer to have my help to envision the event, I provide a creative solution, then do the work to implement that solution.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I planned a wedding for a lovely couple that took place on April 12th 2014. The wedding was in a social hall at the groom's parish. This large hall was very nice, but the bride wanted to transform the space into something very bright and celebratory. Using lighting, linens, balloons and colored streamers, candles and flowers, the space was transformed and the guests had such a great time - they stayed until 1:00 in the morning!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Consider what is important to you in addition to price. What would you like a planner to do for you and what would you prefer to do for yourself? Create a list of questions around these tasks and hire the planner that can accomplish your goals and has experience doing so.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I wish that my customer's knew that planning is not just for those that find events difficult or those that need help designing their event. I have many wonderful clients that come to me with their own vision and event design, then they procure my services to bring their vision and design to fruition.
Also - my job is not just to "paint a pretty picture"; my job is 10% creative and 90% making the "trains run on time". I spend a lot of time making lists and checking them twice!
