"I had the most wonderful massage from Claudia. She will forever be my go-to from here on out! I have had a handful of massages elsewhere, but never with this level of personalized care, attention, and valuable information that I can incorporate within my life as I go about my day. Claudia is so friendly and super knowledgable. I am recommending her to everyone I know!"

"I highly recommend Alexis! I had the two hour deep tissue massage with a foot scrub - the price was incredibly reasonable. The massage was a very quiet & tranquil experience. She is one of the most professional massage therapists I've ever went to - very knowledgeable and experienced in different massage techiques. Looking forward to rescheduling with her soon!"

"I have received several chair massages as well as a hot stone massage. Each experience was excellent and I always walked away feeling less tense, revived, and reguvinated. Very professional, very personable guy, and he is sure to allow you to be as comfortable as possible throughout your experience. I will definitely go to him for all my massage needs and would recommend him to anyone!"

"I was comfortable with Rob right away. He made me feel relaxed and safe inviting him into my space. During our session I felt a deep sense of calmness. I let go of tension in areas I didn't even realize I was holding any. I definitely recommend getting a Reiki treatment from Rob."

"I recently started going to Sheena at Holistica for deep tissue therapeutic massages after feeling cheated on time (for the price) at bigger local establishments. I've been to her three times and each time, she has listened to my needs and specifically addressed them in a thorough and professional manner. One thing I appreciate is that she doesn't talk your ear off, which, in my opinion, adds to the relaxation of the massage. Sheena has a pleasant and caring disposition as well. The atmosphere at Holistica was quiet and relaxing and her use of aromatherapy, which the client can choose the scent, enhanced the therapeutic experience. Also, the location of Holistica is convenient to Washington, PA, being only a brief drive out of the city. I'm happy to patronize the small business that Holistica is and I highly recommend that you give Sheena your business, too. Jennifer"

"I started seeing Tim for massage therapy for neck pain related to severe whiplash. The results were so remarkable I decided to try his training program. In following through with all of his excellent training techniques I was able to overcome the pain and limited mobility caused by torn meniscus in both knees. Prior to training with Tim I had trouble squatting and walking long distances. I am now able to run again! I recently ran two 5Ks and a 10K, and I can squat with 55 lbs.of weight on my shoulders. I have been training with Tim for two years and the results have been amazing. He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. With his nutritional guidance I have lost 60 lbs. But even more surprising to me, I have dropped 7 dress sizes! The exercise program he gave me completely resculpted my shape so that I now wear a size two (2) which I have never worn before even at the same weight as I am now. In summary I highly recommend Tim for both massage and personal training. It has completely changed my body and my life for the better!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
