Brian pulled new cable for the installation of a new wall oven. The existing aluminum cable was not up to code, and pulling new wire required dropping part of the basement ceiling to get to from the kitchen to the panel. Brian came to my home a Saturday evening to inspect the work and quote the job. Because the old oven had been removed, I was hoping to get the work done in the next day or too, and Brian promised to come on Monday morning. True to his word, Brian was at our home on Monday morning. The job took a little longer than expected, but Brian stuck with his original hourly quote. He also wired up the oven and helped me lift it into the cabinet space. I requested he leave the basement ceiling open so that I could do additional work in the space, and he did. Everything else was cleaned up and our new oven works wonderfully. Brian was a little bit late getting to our home Monday morning, and the work took a bit longer than we expected, but overall we are pleased with the quality of the work, and would work with Brian again.

Amazing guy and experience. The TV and the wall were both troublemakers (rough wall material and a stripped TV stand screw) but Obi stuck it out and worked through it. Spent a ton of time making sure the job was done right and was a pleasure to work with. I’ll be reaching out to him for any future install needs!

David was great!! I had been chasing a different A/V company around for weeks, with nothing but frustration .... non-returned phone calls, etc. I finally gave up and submitted a Thumbtack Job Request. David responded almost immediately and after finding out that my house was on his way home from the job he was currently working on, he agreed to stop by THAT NIGHT!! He emailed a bid later that same evening. Most importantly .... the work (wall mounting TVs, installing brackets and wireless cable) all turned out perfectly. The one hiccup we did have involved a mantle that the previous owner had cheaply installed that was accidently knocked loose. He reglued the mantle making it actually more secure than it was before he started. I would strongly recommend David for any A/V needs!

Bill Buchanan Services replaced my front porch, added a new side porch as an extension of my front porch, as well as ‘rehabbing’ my front walk and side patio – the work he and his crew did was excellent and adds great value to my home. The quality of the work done is such that I will use Bill Buchanan Services for further work that needs to be done on my home. What impressed me most, about this particular job, was that it involved the demolition of my front porch (which also functions as part of my garage roof). Underneath this floor/roof runs my main water and gas lines into my house. Mr. Buchanan knew that any damage done to these two pipes would be his responsibility to fix, and had plans in place were that to occur. Despite the risk Buchanan Services was willing to place a bid on this work; one company declined to bid as it was ‘too risky’. Buchanan Services took the necessary time and care that insured that there was no damage done. If you choose to have Bill Buchanan Services work on your project I will advise you of one thing in particular: For legitimate reasons Mr. Buchanan will only accept payment for his services in cash; which cash you should have on-hand when he begins the work (a factor for which I was not prepared). The job he did for me involved two steps – the demolition of the porch and then it’s reconstruction; both steps listed in his written bid, and each step clearly priced. What was not clear, when he began the work, was that he expected to be paid at the completion of each step. If you decide to hire Bill Buchanan Services then talk with him specifically about when he expects you to pay for each (potential) step in the project. Had I known this, before the work began, it would have saved me the time and energy to make sure that I had the money on hand when needed. Overall I highly recommend Bill Buchanan Services, and am glad that he did the needed work on my house!

Scott has been essential in helping me finish up my home renovation. He’s reworked so many problems previous contractors left half (or less) complete. My list is pretty long but he reworked my electrical so it will pass inspection, reconfigured my wan/lan network so it actually works, wall mounted my tv, installed light fixtures, shelves, switches and outlets, even plaster work, and likely more I’m forgetting! He really can do it all and communicates well through the entire process. Easy transaction and would absolutely use him again for any issues.

Joe was great! Very professional and down to earth, which I can appreciate. He was very reasonable on his estimates and willing to work with my budget. He has done many jobs for me, painted my living room and trim, hung a chair rail and built shelves to hang on the TV wall. He remodeled my bathroom and hung a backsplash in the kitchen. I will be calling him in the future for more Pinterest inspires projects. I highly recommend him.

Vince along with Premiere Audio Video Services has provided me with outstanding customer service. In November of 2016, my house got broken into and I called the store that same afternoon to get a day to get a security system set up and he had a security system installed by that same night for me. I couldn't of asked for a quicker turn around! Vince stayed until 9PM that night to make sure I understood how the system worked. I also just recently purchased a mount for my TV from him and he installed it the day he got the mount in. I would strongly recommend Vince and Premiere Audio Video Services to anyone!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What should you do with a broken LCD TV?

Nationally, the average price range for TV repair is $60-$90. LCD TV repairs are one of the most common TV repair requests. A liquid crystal display (LCD) TV uses the same technology as your smartphone and most computer screens. Images are created on an LCD screen by electric currents that pass or block light through liquid crystals that are encased between two polarized, glass-like sheets. LCD TVs can be very thin and are relatively affordable, making them one of the most prevalent types of TV on the market. If you have a broken LCD TV, it can probably be repaired. Common problems that can be repaired include a blank screen, sound issues, power problems and digital connection problems. Here is one example of LCD TV repair cost:

      • 55-inch Samsung LCD TV repair: $150, including parts and labor
        • The LCD was intermittently powering up and powering off. The main circuit board was removed and replaced.

Can you fix a flat screen TV?

Yes, you can usually fix a flat screen TV. Whether you have a plasma, LED, OLED, HDR, HD or even LCD, TV repair pros can repair your TV. Flat screen TVs are expensive, and when they stop working it can make your heart stop. But TV repair technicians have advanced along with TV technology and are equipped with the proper tools and training for major and minor repairs. If your flat screen is too massive to transport, most repair companies have pickup and drop-off service. For the most common problems, TV repair pricing might range between $175 and $200 on average. Here are examples of the most common problems:

      • Power problems: The TV won’t turn on or will not stay on once started.
      • Digital problems: All connections are in place but you’re not receiving any signal.
      • Sound problems: There is no sound, the volume doesn’t respond to attempts to raise or lower it, or the volume is inconsistent.
      • Screen problems: The TV is on but there is no picture.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

      • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
      • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
      • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
      • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
      • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
      • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

How much does it cost to repair a TV?

If your TV isn’t working, don’t despair. TV repair professionals can handle almost any situation, no matter how new or outdated your TV’s technology. The national average TV repair cost is $50-$90, although prices can be higher based on the type of TV and the work required. Because most TVs today are much too large to transport in an ordinary car, many companies provide transportation services for an added fee. Here are some examples of average TV repair costs for specific problems and TV models:

      • 65-inch Sony DLP TV repair cost: $275, including parts and labor.
        • Removed old light engine and bulb and installed new.
      • 42-inch Sanyo Plasma TV repair cost: $200, including parts and labor.
        • Multiple circuit boards had gone bad in the TV. Technicians installed a new Y-SUS sustain buffer board and an X main board.
      • 55-inch Samsung LCD TV repair cost: $150, including parts and labor.
        • The LCD was intermittently powering up and powering off. Replacing the main circuit board solved the problem.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
