I needed an old microwave shelf/kitchen exhaust fan removed from above my range and replaced with a new over range cabinet and new under cabinet microwave. Sounds simple but this object was quite a contraption. Jason was on time, curtious and got right down to business. Installed everything exactly how I wanted it and cleaned up. Price was fair. I will use him again.

I had some odd projects....a very long cornice to hide 4 4' fluorescent light fixtures and a custom shelf. I found a shelf that was perfect for my bathroom, but the artisan would only make it in pine. Tom created it in walnut so it would match other walnut accents in the master bath. He did a beautiful job and hung it as well. The cornice was, to put it mildly, a nightmare. I didn't have plans in mind. Tom made some excellent recommendations as his design mimicked the top of our china cabinet. Once the cornice was in place, I realized that the open bottom allowed the light fixtures to dominate the woodwork. So Tom came up with a plan to install some metal sheeting I'd found. It was a tedious job, but Tom is a perfectionist. I appreciated Tom's attention to detail. I already have other projects in mind for him.

Charles is by far the most excellent contractor we have ever used. Bar none. He designed and implemented the construction of our new kitchen. He either DID every single aspect by himself, or oversaw anyone who came into the house. Floors to ceilings! Anytime we discussed something and my husband or I would say, "is it possible to maybe do???" He found a way! When we decided it was time for a new kitchen, we never expected to get pretty much everything we wanted, and more. But we did. Not only is Charles's workmanship extraordinary, but he himself is THE most respectful and considerate of any workers of any kind we have ever had in our home. And believe me, when no one in our household is DIY, and we've lived here 30+ years, we have had to deal with lots of workmen! Our original idea was to change old cabinets, countertops and appliances. But with the questions and suggestions of Charles we ended up with a major remodel. He understood our greatest desires in a kitchen. And so we were able to get our dream kitchen. We are so very pleased with the kitchen results, we really really want to remodel our game room with the help of Charles of Parham Design. Soon.

I contacted Symbio Building Solutions to get a quote on installing some cabinets and a countertop in a kitchen I was putting together for my daughter's blossoming cake business. John come out to look at the job. As we discussed the project it became very apparent that he had passion for his trade, was detail oriented and come to find out, had experience with epoxy countertops, something I had not considered. He sent over a very reasonable bid in a timely manner and was hired. I can't express in words how grateful I am that I made that decision. John showed up on time, worked hard while on site, communicated with me on the details during the project and showed true professionalism throughout the process. John even made a rolling cabinet for my daughter to put her cakes on to roll them to the decorating area which she loves. There is no way that I could be happier with the final results!! Thanks John!!

Terry is versatile! He replaced downspouts, repaired a door and installed light fixtures. And for a final act, put together a dog crate for me. I have more demanding projects planned (cabinet making, woodwork restoration and rebuilding a back porch) and am confident Terry will do a great job. Reasonable rate, on time service, quality work and a nice guy. You can't go wrong. Hire Terry.

All our furniture is made by Bruce Berman at his IDesign Company. This includes complete dining room, master bedroom (including two dressers) and perhaps his most ambitious creation: a dining room table with electrically adjustable height. Bruce has also built us a cherry wood library complete with liquor cabinet and the fireplace. I must say that we are very pleased. We have been using his furniture for over 15 years now. This is important because it proves that his furniture is not only beautifully designed but it is also durable. 15 years ago, when we were considering IDesign, we thought that perhaps he is a bit too expensive. We no longer think so. If anything, considering how pleased we are with the aesthetics and how well it functions, we've got a bargain.

Cabinets arrived FAST, saved almost $3000 on the cabinets compared to other local quotes for the same ones. The Free 3D design made it east to make a decision on cabinet style. Oh, and Installer was top notch too. Awesome experience, highly recommended, dont waste time running around pittsburgh area for quotes, just use 123. THANK YOU!

Patch installed drywall in the attic of our home turning it into a useable bedroom for our daughter. On a separate occasion he helped install kitchen cabinets. Both times he was on time with schedule and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend others to use his services! Thank you Patch!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

    How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
