I used On-Demand Moving Services for my most recent move in Philadelphia this past week, and I would encourage you to use any other company than On-Demand for your moving services. I used Thumbtack to obtain quotes from several different moving companies and On-Demand gave me the most competitive quote, so I decided to use them this time, but after this experience, I will never again use this company or any company suggested by Thumbtack. We are two single women, so we had a moderate amount of things - 2 bedrooms, a couch, a few bookcases and a dining room table as well as several boxes. They had 3 movers come out and they moved incredibly slow. It took them 5.67 hours to complete the move (I moved 0.5 miles down the road). The quote that the manager gave me was inherently deceptive. The estimate included 3.75 hours of labor (at $105/hr) and several other fees (# of flights of steps at each location, mileage, mattress cover, etc.) and it came out to around $500. Lanre, the manager, had e-mailed me that he thought it would take 3.75-5.75 hours for the move, so I was prepared to pay more than the estimate when it took them 5.67 hours to move me. At the end of the job, the mover quotes me $950 for the total. I knew instinctively that this must be wrong because I added about 2 more hours of labor at $105/hr to my $500 quote and thought he would charge me around $700. I called the manager to discuss, and he said that the quote he gave me included a “one-time charge of 1 hr travel for the move itself”. I still did not really understand what he was talking about, but basically, he sent me an estimate that said it was for 3.75 hours of labor, but it was actually what it would cost for 2.75 hours of labor with an additional flat fee hour travel charge of $105 for the move itself. I asked him why he would send me a deceptively low quote for an hour less than what he thought it would take to move all my things and he just replied, “It is only an estimate because we do not know how long it will actually take.” We went back and forth for a while, and then he suddenly found an “error” in his calculations, and then quoted me $810 for the move. At this point, I was so disgusted with this company and wanted their movers out of my home. I paid the $810, but I would say, please do not use this company. They damaged my wall (I moved into new construction) during the move, moved at an incredibly slow pace and then used deceptively low estimates with hidden fees that resulted in me paying way more than previously agreed.

We hired Bob's service to install a dining table which was sitting around for a long time. He had a great understanding of the client's need, one thing he mentioned was that the instructions which came in with the product were completely wrong. He has great application skills and was able to complete the job in quick time. He is very courteous, understanding and knowledgeable in the areas of home design and project work. I would be calling him again to get ceiling fans installed and also dimmer light switches installed.

Great communication from quote through completion. Came on time, brought the correct felt requested-had many options, price was fair, installer was great, and suggested where table should be placed. Overall would recommend to anyone needing a pool table installed/moved. The only thing I would change, and do not know if there are different options, which is my fault, are the markers placed on table.

We couldn't be more impressed and satisfied with hiring Light Hauling! Very quick response and even made the trip to dissemble pool table and remove pool table on a Sunday. Complete professionals and affordable. We will definitely use Jeff and his team again for future moving/hauling needs and would highly recommend using this company for the services they offer!

I hired John to pickup and install a pool table. It turned into much bigger job when the storage company lost a piece of slate. John was extremely helpful and sourced a new piece of slate for me. Highly recommend these guys. They are fast, professional and go the extra mile in order to get the job done. Happy customer.

LOOK NO FURTHER, KEVIN IS YOUR GUY!!!! My husband and I found Kevin on Thumbtack to replace and extend two of our decks. We were sold when Kevin told us he does the work himself so he knows it is done right. Kevin planned the construction to allow for us to slide our hot tub from the old deck to the new deck, eliminating the need for a crane, as our deck is not ground level. The deck was built alongside of our above ground pool and the steps turned out better then we hoped for. Kevin handled all the permits, inspections and township requirements. The deck turned out beautiful and the workmanship was impeccable. Kevin was courteous, cleaned up each evening and won over our pug! We would definitely recommend his services.

These guys did a great job for us. They got back to us very quickly to come over and do an estimate, they were on time on the day of the move, they carefully wrapped things up (including taking apart, securing, wrapping and then moving a baby grand piano) and moved them out and then in the new house. All of them were professional and cared about not hitting the walls, leaving marks on the floors, or hurting the furniture. They did a great job.

So pleasant, knowledgeable about IKEA furniture and instructions. Took him about 3 1/2 hours to put four chairs and a kitchen table together ( million pieces). was on time, got right to work. Described how the table leaf worked. Definitely went above and beyond. Noticed front door slamming - on his way out used his screw driver for a moment and stopped it. Kept things/packaging cleaned up as he went along. A "can do/will do" attitude. Would definitely recommend him.

We initially had Tom out to give us an estimate on extending our fence so that we could fit our pool in our backyard and still meet the township requirements. By the time we got done talking, we also hired him to run the electric for our pool AND finish our huge basement. In two weeks, YES 2 weeks, they finished the fence, ran the electric, hauled away stuff from the basement that we didn’t want, AND not only finished our basement, but literally turned it into a basement that my entire family never wants to leave. Tom and his team were professional, responsive, and truly cared about every detail that they put into their work. They worked every single day (including weekends) to make sure that they not only meet their timeline, but exceeded our expectations. I have never had such a positive experience with a contractor and our family is completely IN LOVE with our gorgeous basement! Thank you Tom & team for making our basement dream come true at an extremely competitive price that we could afford. I’m almost certain we’ll be seeing you soon for whatever we decide our next project will be!

I hired Eric and his team for a bathroom remodel converting a half bathroom/laundry room into a full bathroom and a separate laundry room extending into our garage. His price was competitive with other contractors but his confidence and knowledge got him the job. From day one I knew we hired the right company for the job as they got here early and were flat out throughout the project. The craftsmanship was professional and they didn't cut any corners. The end product was the bathroom of our dreams fully tiles and with a beautiful frameless glass door for the shower. In fact he did the extra little things like replacing entire cast iron sewage pipe to pvc to endure we don't have a problem in the future. They exceeded our expectations so much that we hired them for 5 extra days to help with other projects around the house like new wood flooring, new cabinets, new tile ceiling, updating plumbing features, updating electric and even some hardscaping work in our pool area. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for work fine to their property and will be more than happy to be a reference.

This company for sure overceeded my expectations. At first I was somewhat skeptical but this crew made a stressful scenario work for me.I moved a 2bdr with boxes, misc item's, piano, and a pool table from Ct to NJ estimated for 6 to 7 hrs and it went only a he over because of the difficulty of the move.very fair prices and they were polite and experienced..I will use them again with my next move and recommend them to friends and family...

We hired George Platt for two large furniture jobs, both of which were handled beautifully and on time (and within our predetermined budget as well). The first job was an incredible all-white high gloss bathroom vanity and built in cabinets for our new master bath. George was able to complete it very quickly (as well as change it slightly on the fly when we altered the designs slightly) which allowed our contractor to perfectly install the vanity in short order. There were no issues whatsoever and we couldn't have been more happy with his work. It's the first thing you see when you walk into the bathroom and we are very glad we had George make it for us. His second job was a truly "wow" dining room table and living room bar for us - both for entertaining purposes. The dining room table is made out of African bubinga with gorgeous inlays and live edges on both sides. Each time we have friends and family over they ooh and ahh over it and can't believe we were able to have it built custom for us. The same goes for a 6ft long, 4ft high African Zebra Wood bar with three shelves in each of the three individual cabinets. George doesn't use veneer (which can actually be tough to get into an apt given the weight) and again, the quality of the work and craftsmanship shows on each of his pieces. George's work is reasonably priced for the best quality work we've experienced in terms of handcrafted furniture. As his work is so great, we can't wait to hire him for future projects.

Mr Billa came in to fixed my leaking bath/shower. My bathroom needed a new floor as well from the water damage and the ceiling in my sitting room needed repair after the bathroom pipes were fixed. Mr.Billa from Here for you Contractors has done and great job fixing the leaks and installing a new bathtub, replacing the shower faucets and installing a new ceramic tile in the shower and on the floor. Mr. Billa also replace the damaged ceiling in the sitting room, painted it to match the walls. I also hired Mr Billa to add some cabinets to my kitchen, create an island from cabinets with a wooden butcher block top so that is looks like a table in the center of the kitchen. He installed a ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and installed a dishwasher. I also purchased a new washer and dryer and Mr. Billa ran the pipes to installed the washer and dryer in the room behind my kitchen that I was using for storage. Mr. Billa turned it into a laundry room so I don't need to go into the basement to wash clothes anymore, and to me that is such a big relief not to go to the basement anymore for the laundry.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to restore a pool table?

Keeping your pool table in prime condition both protects your investment and makes it more fun to play. If your billiards table has been damaged by age or player misuse, experienced pool table repair pros are ready to help. The average national cost to hire a pool table specialist is $330-$400, but pricing can vary depending on how much restoration work needs to be done and the type and cost of materials you need. Depending on the type of pool table you want, the cost to buy one new can range from $1,000 to $5,000 and up, so investing in upkeep every few years makes good financial sense. Common pool table repairs include refelting the table, replacing cushions and cushion rubber that is has deteriorated or been damaged, installing new pockets or replacing damaged pockets, and fixing chips or smoothing uneven slate. You can also have wood pool tables refinished to restore them to their former luster, which may start around $600 and go up, depending on size, wood type and necessary repairs. Pool table repair pros can level an uneven table, repair broken leg mounts and address other foundational issues. Pool table repair pros can also fix coin-operated parts for commercial tables.

How much does it cost to replace pool table felt?

Owning a pool table, whether for pleasure or business, means investing in upkeep. Keeping the felt in good condition is important to ensure not only appearance but a smooth game. The national average cost to hire a pool table repair professional ranges from $330 to $400. A quality pool table is a major investment, so you want to hire a pro who is experienced and comes with glowing references. Refelting a pool table is a specialized skill calling for technical tools, competence with slate smoothing and repair, and the ability to provide a precision application of the felt that won’t hinder play.

When well cared for, pool table felt can last up to a decade; pros recommend replacing your pool table felt every three years or so, more often if you play heavily. Refelting and pool table repairs can cost more for antique and custom pool tables. Commercial pool table owners are wise to have multiple pool tables repaired at one time, as they can often get discounts for volume work.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
