LEAH IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!! I have a 19 year old son who needed extra help with Math, preparing for his ACT. Leah took the time in the beginning to find out how he learns and what style works best for him. This key!!! She is well prepared and takes her tutoring seriously. I can honestly say for the first time he comes home feeling confident about what he is learning he is not intimidated, not afraid to ask questions. First time learning Math without becoming frustrated. Highly recommend Leah, she is an excellent teacher, she is patient, soft spoken and really cares about what she is doing!! THANK YOU LEAH BERL!!!

Will is easy to work with from a parents' perspective regarding scheduling and pricing and easy to work with from a students' perspective regarding ability to relate to them and to communicate the subject matter effectively. My son valued his time with Will and came home from every tutoring session feeling more confident about his ability to perform well on the SAT. We utilized Will's services between my son's 2nd and 3rd times taking the AT and he helped my son gain 150 points in only 5 weeks; we sued Will again between the 3rd & 4th times taking the SAT and just took that on 8/25 and my son believes he is likely to have gained another 50 - 100 points...we will keep you posted!

Heather is a terrific teacher! Her skills as a private in-home tutor are unsurpassed. Heather goes beyond the basics (e.g., being on time, showing up prepared, following up with helpful texts) by working with the classroom teacher to prepare her weekly sessions. As an added bonus .... We hope to use Heather for in-home SAT prep. Heather has the skills to help kids succeed.

Kevin helped me get an A in my data management course. His deep knowledge and understanding of access and excel was more than adequate to cover all areas of the course. What I liked most about Kevin's style of tutoring was his down to earth nature and his ability to put things in layman's terms so that I, as an adult blue collar returning student can relate to. I think this quality is unique among tutors, professors, and other academic types.

Neil Grobman is a great tutor. Neil tutored me in the reading and writing portions of the SAT. We had lessons each week. He introducesd and elaborated on a different topic at each lesson. At the end, Neil assigns word parts and an essay for homework which helped to furthur expand the concepts. Neil made sure that he answers all of my questions and concerns. If he did not know the answer, Neil finds any sources that provides the answer. Neil provides an unique way to boost vocabulary, attack the essay, and complete the passage based questions. I have learned a lot from Neil and I recommend him to anyone in need of a responsible and dedicated tutor.

My daughter always seemed to have panic attacks leading up to tests. I was desperate to find a way for her to be comfortable especially as SATs were coming up. All I can say is after a few weeks with the tutors and life coaches at Chelsea International Education, my daughter’s confidence level went up a lot. She was not only prepared to take her SATs but her core academic skills have improved tremendously, which has helped her with her AP exams. The fact that all of the Chelsea tutors are fully qualified teachers, I think makes a major difference and really sets them apart. It really is a quality service and I am very happy to recommend them to anyone.

Dr. David Turner has been tutoring my son in 6th and 7th grade math for a little over a month. My son enjoys working with him and seems to understand the material much better now. He came home from school and was able to do his homework with out a problem. Last year he had a very difficult time with math andit was very frustrating for all of us. I am very happy with Josh's progress since working with Dr. Turner.

Accounting Tutor

New To Thumbtack

    About

My name is Richelle and I have graduated with a Bachelors in Accounting. Accounting can be a very challenging subject and many high schools now offer introductory courses for students who are interested in the field. While I am well versed in all math disicplines, what I truly enjoy doing is helping students open their minds to a new subject in a different way. If your child has started the year off with their first accounting class and begin to feel lost, I recommend a tutor as soon as possible. Just like math, accounting is all about the basics. I have experience with tutoring and working with students. Please contact me for more details. New Ringgold.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

    • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
    • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
    • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
    • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
