I found Mike 's work to be right on point. He power washed and painted my 3 decks outback. He was very flexible with meeting me for payment. Returned my messages when I had questions. Was always on time. Had no problem when I wanted him to check an extra area. I would definitely recommend him for future work that other interested parties may need him for. I will be using his services for my mother in the future.

Daniel Johnson came in and removed a chimney from a long-gone wood stove, took down the huge brick surround and patched the roof, the attic and the living room ceiling. He worked around our schedule, charged an incredibly good rate and even took away all of the brick, cinder block and mortar that he took down. He's painting the ceiling and then we're going to plan the next project, a bathtub and tile work! He is the best!

Dom and Kevin were great! Super responsive very easy process. My rooms look fantastic (amazing what new paint can do)! They were on time, (in fact early) courteous and cleaned up once they were done. Will definitely hire again to paint other rooms in my home.

Kevin did an excellent job! He painted my cabinets and replaced all the yucky brass hardware with nickel. They look gorgeous! He noticed the cabinet floor under the sink was falling and asked if he could fix it. That floor is so sturdy now it won't be moving for another 100 years. He also installed a threshold between my dining room and kitchen. The tile floor in the kitchen was higher than the hard woods. My company won't trip anymore. I'm so excited. Hire Kevin! He's honest and fair. We have other jobs lines up when the weather breaks 😃

Great work, fair prices, professional service! What a great experience! I had a leak in my rubber roof. They showed up for the estimate and work promptly and even when running a few minutes late, I was notified. While they were on the roof, they didn't just do the job, they looked for any other issues and made recommendations. I have already had them clean the gutters, do maintenance on my shingle roof and a small tile repair project. I will definitely use them again.

Jason is a really nice guy to do business with. We hired him for fence repair and painting. He was very fair in his price, flexible on his schedule as Mother Nature was against us and did a very nice job on the project. We will certainly use him again in the future.

David responded quickly and came to my home to give me an estimate and explain the process and the imperfections on some walls that would need repair. We decided to use a high quality paint and he sent a professional estimate via email. The painting project took 5 days and he prepped the walls and protected my horizontal surfaces with drapes, paper, cloth, plastic. He worked in an organized manner and was neat and clean. He cleaned up daily and at the end of the week. I felt comfortable with him in my home and I was able to leave on errands. Thanks for a great job. The painting involved vaulted ceilings, staircase and kitchen corners.

I hired Randy to paint the exterior metal railing on my porch and stairs to the second floor. I have hired numerous contractors to do work for me and it was refreshing not to have to chase him down to start or finish the work. He was quick, clean and professional. The job looks good and I will use him again.

Had Martin come in to paint my living room/dining room area, master bedrooms, a spare bedroom and my hallway leading the second floor of my home. This was done about 3 months ago and I have had him return to do things such as trim and doors to a semi gloss white. He definitely gives you a fair price, works long and hard to get the job done in time, while being very pleasant to deal with. I see he posted the after pictures in his gallery as well. Definitely would reccomend him to others and he is my go to for future jobs.

Tyler did a great, professional job on our bathroom remodel. His attention to detail was excellent. Tyler kept us informed clearly and frequently. Excellent demeanor. We will be using him again to paint two rooms next week. He has been arguably the best contractor we have used for needed work at our home since we moved to Harrisburg four months ago.

I hired John to paint my basement - floors, walls and ceiling. It had recently been flooded, plus it was in dire need of repainting. He replied promptly with his quotes, was more than fair with pricing. When I hired him for the job, he was on time, worked fast and professionally and did a great job. I would recommend him for your painting jobs and will most likely use him again in the future.

I can’t say enough how happy I am with the painting work most recently completed by the professionals at HAL Home improvements Inc. Not only did they complete the job in a timely manner, the quality of the job they did was outstanding. The interior of my home looks great. In addition to that Angel and his crew were a real pleasure to have at our home. Very polite and always organized and tidy. My wife was even happy. Lol Thx Angel for a job well done . See you when our next project is ready. I’m thinking Deck stain.. Bill D. (Kirkwood, Pa. )

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
