We had trouble finding a contractor to do gutter work, so we're so glad we found Wolfe through Thumbtack. They quickly provided a quote for the work, and completed the job as soon as the weather cooperated. We were very pleased with the work

I had a roof leak problem that I was chasing for months. Had several contractors look at it. James was the first one that got to the root of the problem quickly and efficiently. I again called him for another leak issue at a different property and he had the problem resolved within minutes. The second job was already worked on but never resolved. James was able to resolve it and even showed me what I could do to prevent further leakage. This is a man who is truly experienced and knows what he is looking at. No run arounds and absolutely honest. And the rates were very reasonable. This is a fellow who has all my blessings to grow and prosper. I fully recommend J. Cozze for your roofing needs.

J&J Contracting was extremely professional and did quality work at reasonable prices. They did many jobs for our home remodel that included constructing custom kitchen cabinets, replacing a barn roof, replacing the support columns on a wrap around porch to give it structural integrity, drywall installation, and plumbing.

My mother and I hired this contractor to do a kitchen remodel. We were unsure what we wanted until Adam came in and went over the kitchen design, layout, and the next time we met with him before starting the work, he had drafted up a computer animated blueprint, and finish of the job! We made a few slight changes afterwards. Adam was very professional, always kept the working area clean and tidy. It's always nice to see the finish product BEFORE the job even starts! Very professional!

I have used Mike and Dave on many projects. Most recently I had an electrical upgrade, they corrected the issue and an extremely timely fashion. I highly recommend that you use Building Dreams Contracting. There are many contractors in the area that I live most don't show up, many don't come back. If you want your job done correctly contact Mike and Dave

I had several contractors come to see my remodel job. The whole job consisted of a total room rip out and redo including drywall, electric, windows and a floor... but after getting several estimates, I was about to give up. TRM Construction gave me an estimate for the WHOLE job (other contractors only wanted to do just the drywall or just the floor or just the electric or just the windows and then hire sub-contactors for the other parts). The owner, Tim, was there for every step of the job from rip out to finish. The work was finished quickly and the quality is great. Plus, the total cost of the job was much less than having a different contractor (sub-contactors) for each individual step. Couldn't be happier, and I will hire TRM Construction again for my roof and kitchen remodel.

Pat Zezeski has done numerous jobs for me including building a dock, roofing, flooring, and remodeling projects. He's always been professional, thorough, and on time. He's respectful, and good to work with. I've been so happy with his work that I have referred him to my real estate clients (I'm an active Realtor) and they've always been satisfied too. I'd hire Pat in a heartbeat -- you should too!

American Empire called me back right away when I went looking for a contractor on a different site. One of the owners Marcos arrived on time and was very professional. He spoke in language that a non-contractor would understand and had materials to show us. He started before the start date and was completed before the completion date. The crew arrived about 8am and worked till dark. American Empire replaced our roof, siding, sliding door, fascia, gutters and leaders and shutters. My house looks brand new. I have had several potential customers come look at my house and they said they were impressed and went with American Empire.

He got back to us right away and went above and beyond the original specifications of the job. Most contractors always leave some kind of mess or trash. Not Mike. He left his work site (our home) immaculately clean. He was a pleasure to deal with and he did a fantastic job. We'll probably use him for all plumbing jobs in the future.

Reese Roofing installed a metal roof over our existing shingle roof and replaced an old skylight in the process. It was a great experience! From the beginning, I felt like Reese Roofing cared about what we wanted, and Brook went out of his way to show that. Reese Roofing was able to replace our roof in a day--in 20 degree weather! And they left the place spotless; you wouldn't even know they were there. All in all, it was a professional, courteous experience, and I'm very happy with the way the roof turned out.

First of all their job pricing is very reasonable. Right Choice has given me prices far below other contractor's quotes. Job quality is excellent. If there is ever an issue in my renovation, Jet brings it to my attention and asks me how do I wish to handle it !! I truly appreciate that. Prior to Right Choice I hired another contractor to do my roof and a section of the under roof was rotten. His crew never told me a thing but instead installed the new roof on to of rotten beams. This was a careless and unsafe situation. Had it been Chet, he would have told me of this situation and allowed me to let him fix it rather than cover it up like the previous contractor did. Chet's crew are phenomenal workers. Thus far I don't have one bad thing to say about Right Choice Contracting. They have met and exceeded my expectations. I highly highly recommend this company.

I found the Garvin employees to be some of the best I have ever had work on my house. They endured some pretty brutal weather and high winds (in January) to put on a new roof. They worked quickly and did a quality job. The work was completed in under three weeks from when I signed the contract (the last job I had done by a different contractor took 10 months for them to arrive) The workmen had our roof on in about 2 days. In the past week we have had high winds and even a tornado. The wind drove the rain inside our car past the door jam seals and soaked the carpet. I figured if the roof needed a test... this was the storm to do it. Everything held fast without a single leak.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
