Matt did an outstanding job in a very professional manner. He was punctual, and did a very efficient and thorough job on my kitchen and bathroom tile floors. The toughest part of the job -- the grout -- came out terrific.

Philly Pretzel Factory engaged Moore Cleaning Solutions to clean and maintain three of our stores in Gilbertsville, Phoenixville, and Quakertown. MCS was extremely professional with their approach and execution of their duties cleaning our ovens, aluminum freezers, stainless steel countertops, tables, ceramic tile floors and grout, stripping and finishing our VCT tile floors. Moore Cleaning Solutions price was competitive and their results are excellent. In addition to cleaning, MCS also trained our team on managing the cleaning maintenance of our stores as well as proving us with thought leadership processes to help us maintain a consistently clean appearance. We were very pleased with MCS work and enjoy working with the company.

We had an urgent need to have our subfloor in our main bathroom replaced. Matt understood the urgency and responded quickly to our needs. In addition to replacing the subfloor, he laid new ceramic tile, replaced the baseboard heat registers as well as the bathroom door. All work was completed within 3 days. Matt also presented suggestions from his experience that enhanced the look of the bathroom. Matt and his team were professional and always cleaned up the work area thoroughly at the end of each day. I would highly recommend M.J.S. Construction.

From the beginning Tony communicated with me daily as I explained to him things I was hoping to accomplish when a I moved in my new home. Within a day of being settled I had Tony and his crew come in and plan out the things that I wanted updated/fixed/etc. Let me tell you when I say these guys can do it all I truly mean it. They were able to perfectly execute crown molding chair rail and wainscoting. My downstairs bath is a true gem after the special touches they added. To show what a stand up guy Tony is, he didn't like the light color of the grout compared to the tile he ripped it up and replaced it no cost to me and the difference shows how professional and good of an eye they have. Tony his dad and brother are genuine stand up guys who care about their work and their clients. With a excellent price and extensive amounts of work these guys went over and beyond. They even were able to do an incredible installation of recessed led lighting with very minimal patch work. No request was to big or small for these guys. I will definately be calling them again soon for my other rooms. A+++++++++++ I WOULD RECOMMEND ALL DAY!!!!!

Josh is outstanding in every way. We hired him to install mosaic border tile and to grout the entire kitchen floor. He is very reliable and does excellent work. He works until he gets the job done. He takes his time and is very detail oriented. We were so impressed by his work that we are trying to get on his busy schedule for future projects. Gail E 856-938-7515

Good communication, easy to deal with. Fair pricing. Grout tile didn't come as perfectly clean as I had hoped, but Tom had set the proper expectations up front and it was definitely acceptable. Would hire again.

From following up to schedule a walk through for the estimate through the completion of my project in 2.5 days, Erik was extremely professional. He showed up on time and even called from the road to provide an ETA. My project included a bunch of small jobs that had been unfinished for over a year. Erik installed trim in the master bathroom and Butler's pantry, fixed a shower threshold that was uneven, leading to leaking whenever the shower was used. After fixing that (it involved removing the shower door and reinstalling it), he also sealed the grout in the shower. Erik installed closet doors on a linen closet and repaired the water-damaged ceiling in the hallway and also installed trim around the attic access space. Finally, Erik touched up all of the paint in the rooms requiring touch up. The only reason this review is not 5 stars is because of miscommunication around touch up painting. The wrong paint was used at first and it was darker than the rest of the walls so now I see the error when looking in my medicine cabinet mirror. Also, additional monies were spent on sanding and painting in another room. For the general carpentry, I am very pleased and so glad the house finally looks finished and can be listed.

Lisa at Polish and Shine House Cleaning gave me a very good price and accommodated me very fast. I called her first on Saturday and left a voice mail, she called me back on Sunday, and I scheduled her for Monday afternoon. She promptly arrived and cleaned my 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house very fast, in 2 hours. It was not the most detailed and deep job, there was some dust left on the floor and some old dirty spots on the kitchen tiles were not removed. I wouldn't qualify it as a deep cleaning, but it was a decent job for the price. She did not empty trash bins, but we did not discuss it in advance. What we discussed was cleaning the oven from the outside and she did it very well. She also brought her own supplies, including paper towels, I did not need to give her anything. I was satisfied with my experience overall, but I would go with someone more detailed and deep next time even if it costs a bit more.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
