I am so glad that I found Sara. She is my new go-to dog sitter! I took my dog over to her home and she was immediately at ease, running around in the fenced back yard. Sara watched my dog for three days and did great. Sara was able to give her space separated from her other dogs, which I had requested because my dog is sometimes skittish. When I picked my dog up, she was calm and happy, which is not usually the case (usually seems freaked out when I go away). I think Sara really put her at ease. I look forward to having Sara dog sit for me again!

Mark has been an amazing walker and sitter for our two dogs, a small terrier and a large weimaraner, and our kitten. He is professional, timely, and is always there when we need him, going above and beyond. The animals love him, and he has essentially become an extension of the family. I would recommend him ten times over.

Today was the first time I met Steve in my home. I feel very confident that he has the ability to help teach me to be the best dog owner I can be! I demonstrated my dog running off the porch and down the walkway with me while he was on a leash. I also shared a video of my dog biting at me while trying to get him inside. I'm looking forward to our training classes and am anxious to get started.

Peggy was absolutely amazing with my teacup Yorkie Rocky! She went beyond expectations! She watched Rocky multiple times and even kept him over night at her house for a few days. She always made sure that Rocky was happy and that he had plenty of time to play and run around. Took him on long walks, bought him treats and even got him some new toys! I could tell that my dog adored her and he was always so excited to see her! I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a pet sitter! Kim

Liz was a great help when I needed to find a cat sitter on short notice during a holiday week. She has a lot of experience taking care of pets so she knows exactly what questions to ask. She even sent me pictures of my cat, Melanie, to put my mind at ease. I highly recommend Liz for any pet sitting needs.

I used Jordan as my pet sitter while i vacationed at the beach for a week and she did a wonderful job. It seemed like my little Papillon was so happy there with her and got a ton of attention and got spoiled, which i think was needed considering also a new baby at home which my dog isn't quite used to yet. i would certainly use Jordan again in the future and would recommend her to others as well.

I love the fact that you can see in Michele's face that she loves animals. She treats them as f they were her own and is very loving and kind to them. My little chichi cries when I go to bed without her. Michele said it would be fine with her if my little girl slept with her and would actually like it. I've had many pet sitters but she by far is the best ever and I highly recommend her. My dogs love her too and are happy and healthy when I pick them up.

I adopted my dog when he was 6 years old. He was dog aggressive and weary of strangers. He absolutely loves Pilar, and she does a wonderful job with him. She is so patient with him, she even got him to be comfortable with another dog in my house. (Which is a big stride from where he came from). She also does a great job when teaching me new things to implement in my training which have made life a lot easier. Highly recommend using her!

Lisa is just so wonderful with my little pup! I have used a few different dog sitters, and Lisa is by far the most attentive and loving with my dog. Lola comes home happy and calm, so I know she is getting the attention and care I want for her while I am gone. Lisa is the best.

Patti has been my pet sitter for several years now. She always does an amazing job. She always sends me updates and lets me know how my animals are doing. Plus she brings in the mail and waters my gardens for me. I wouldn't trust anybody else to take care of my beloved pets.

There were no problems, we were at a family wedding and Roberta cared for my dogs at my home. She sent daily pictures and reports on each of the dogs. I felt at ease about their care and will definitely continue to have Roberta care for my pups.

I've used these services for a number of years and all my dogs loved having the sitter come over to my house to spend some time with them while we were away. I never had to worry about my dogs while I was away and trusted the sitter to come into my home. I'd recommend Mr. Biscuits to come and take care of your dog.

Text updates and pictures of the Pups! How nice! Usually when we come home from a trip the dogs are crazy for attention for a few days, after Laurie watched after them they were just like, "oh hi, your home. No big deal". Lol I think Laurie gave them a lot of attention while she was at the house! Thank you Laurie!!

The experience was wonderful for my dog Cyra and for us as her "parents". I was apprehensive about it at first because we have never had to find a sitter for our fur baby. We met Jordana a few days beforehand and Cyra was fine with her immediately. Cyra played with their two puppies as well. The first meeting went well. Jordana and I discussed what was needed to make Cyra feel at home and the price. The day we dropped her off....she was familiar with Jordana and her puppies. Cyra had a wonderful time, and we got pictures of her throughout our time away. That was a very nice touch. We will be using her again in the future and would also recommend her to anyone who asks. Shelly

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
