Mr. Zuzic was professional and returned correspondence immediately. He worked with us from an out of state location, and did all the work in a more than timely, quality fashion. He went above and beyond what was asked of him, he charged very reasonable and fair rates, and didn't try to add in any extra or hidden charges. He is one of the best contractors we have worked with while selling our home. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have a non-stressful, high quality paint job completed within the Pittsburgh area. I wish we lived there so I could use him as a professional reference for my clients have work done on their homes. We will definitely use him again if needed in the future.

We hired Frank to paint the exterior of our brick home, add shutters and refinish the existing wood front door. Frank and his team were honest, hard working, very detailed and made our house the best looking on the street! I will definitely use him again for future projects.

We originally hired Sean to paint two bedrooms. He came over right away and gave me a quote after looking at the job. The other 2 bidders just sent a number with out looking. Sean's price was the best and he offered good suggestions for the paint job. We were so pleased with that job, we then hired him to do our master bath and walk-in closet. This was a big job as all the shelves had to taken apart and re-painted. Sean was meticulous! Everything turned out really nice. I highly recommend Sean. We will definitely be hiring him again!

I have hired Dave for several projects. He has hung siding on my garage, laid Allure flooring in my bathroom, living room and a bedroom. He installed a new bathroom sink and vanity. He has painted most of the rooms in my home and has done some landscape work as well. Dave is very professional. Completes projects in a timely manner, and is meticulous about detail and cleanup. I recommend Dave to anyone looking for handyman projects. Will hire him again for sure!!

Leo was awesome. Ordered a bed which came un-assembled. And when I say un-assembled, I mean the bed arrived in a box with a bunch of wood and hardware - it was like someone took a puzzle, dumped it in a box and mailed it to me. When I opened it I freaked! There was no way I was going to even try to tackle this. I kept putting it off and putting it off because I didn't want to deal with putting that thing together. Needless to say I am not mechanically inclined, nor do I claim or care to be. I advertised the project online and Leo responded with the fairest price for the job AND was the most professional person to respond. After the project was finished, in record time and completely perfect I might add, we asked him if he would be interested in completing other projects in our home - we have so many things that need fixed, repaired, installed etc. Bathroom, bedroom, kitchen - you name it. My father is in poor health lately and, although very mechanically inclined, is unable to fix, repair and install things like he used to. Therefore, a lot of things are in disrepair and there exists a lot of uncompleted projects. We decided that we could really use a guy like Leo. We asked him about painting a few rooms. He gave us a fair estimate and we know, if he continues to work for us, will produce nothing but the best! He actually just called to make sure that we receive his estimate. I spoke with him and, again, he is very professional, and he made sure he followed-up with a formal estimate for the painting job we had asked about in a timely fashion. I am glad he called, because, although I kept thinking, "I need to leave Leo a review," I kept being interrupted by other things. So, to sum it up, if you need a professional handyman/jack-of-all-trades, able to fix, install, repair, etc. (and don't be afraid to ask him if he is willing or able to do a certain project - he is forthright and capable, with big jobs or small), don't just consider Leo, HIRE him already, for goodness sake! PS: My father is about the pickiest person ever created and EVEN HE WAS SATISFIED with Leo and his work...how about that?

I hired Austin to clean out my father's house (the accumulation of ~60 years of "stuff") and from our first interaction to the last, he was highly professional, pleasant, responsive, and punctual. I had to trust the person/company that I hired because I live four hours away. We met and walked through the house, he contacted me that evening with a quote, and came back the next day for a key. Austin and his crew completed the work in two days (including scraping and painting a workshop in the basement). We kept in touch via text, and my realtor checked the work once everything was completed. I would highly recommend Austin for estate clean out work!

I cannot say enough good about Earnest. He is a very hardworking man and is doing a fantastic job with my more than a hundred year old huge Catalpa tree. His estimate was reasonable and his work ethic is unsurpassed. He cleans up my yard completely, making it neat and clean. I was thrilled to find out that he does other work besides cutting down trees. I will be hiring him next Spring for some badly needed painting of my deck. This man deserves more than a five star rating. He is phenomenal!!

I wanted my floors refinished. I had several companies look at them. They all said they were too far gone to be refinished since they were over 90 years old and had multiple layere of paint and finish on them. I had just about give up on the idea of redoing them. Jason came and evaluated them he informed me that yes they were old and had some issues , but they most definitely could be refinished. He came out and preformed what he does with his process . He said the would look good but they well exceeded my wildest expectations. They are absolutely beautiful. I am stund by the final outcome. This is you refinishing company. Thanks!

Chad's workmanship is meticulous. He came into a room in need of help with sanding, cutting trim, painting and it looks better than I could envision myself. His work was quick and spot on. If he didn't like it, he made it better. Will be hiring Chad again.

Cliff has a great work ethics and he will show up every day to work and not skip a day. He will try to get the job done right on time. I gave him 4 stars because he's more like handy man than really a home remodeling expert. To better explain this, I should say he can tear down a wall and repair it but his finished product isn't at a level you want to get. His painting skills is definitely on the fair side.

Alexander painted two rooms for me. He was able and adept to my situation. My husband is confined to the bed. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars because I felt his clean up left a little to be desired.

I have used Woods Construction two times now. First project was a major one: rip out kitchen cabinets, install new ones, put sink, dishwasher, ceiling fan, flooring in, repair ceiling. They also did two bathroom renovations, painted entire floor & trim. They did a great job! He stayed on the time line he promised. One area of the bathroom needed a touch up and he came back immediately to fix. His prices are competitive. I am so glad I used him because I tried another contractor at the same time for the outside work and it was a nightmare. Since then, I have used him again for outside work doing a set of cement steps. Again he did a professional job! I will be using Woods Construction again! I am very pleased.

We could trust Kellen with the keys to our house. He always left the space he was working in - whether inside or outside - better than I would have thought possible. Kellen was scrupulously neat and thorough. All repairs and prep work were done with care. He does not take short cuts. The quality of his work and professionalism is excellent. We definitely recommend Kellen Detar Painting!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
