I am very satisfied with the work that was done. Randy and his crew of 1 removed 3 layers of shingles and placed new plywood and roofing shingles. They replaced gutters. They removed outside crumbling cement steps replaced with wooden steps to the basement. Each day there was clean up of any debris. Job well done and I would recommend him.

They were awesome, from the first meeting with the salesman to final installation. The salesman was very knowledgeable, he answered all my questions and gave me multiple options to chose from. It was nice being happy with the choices I made. Then the customer service people were great. I have a very difficult schedule and they worked with me. The installers were on time and very quick and did quality work. They cleaned up excellently and even dealt with my crazy dog. I had a new roof installed, siding, soffit, windows and doors replaced. They were so great to deal and quality products that I used then three times. The roof siding, soffit, and three windows, then 9 windows then the windows were so good , I also replaced 9 more that were only 10 years old. The price was very affordable considering all the estimates I got. I recommend them 100%.

A-1 General Contractors, LLC recently replaced my roof after it was weathered and damaged. It did not take a while for Ed and his crew to get to my house. One of the things that most impressed me was the way his crew treated my property. Each night they picked up and swept the area. They even had a man whose job was to keep the site clean as they completed the job. My home has a complex system of roofing material including asphalt shingles, metal roofing, and composite roofing so the job took two days. Each day before they finished they made sure that the roof was still water tight. I also talked to his crew and asked him how long they have worked for Robert and most told me multiple years. This speaks well of A-1 General Contractors, LLC ability to train and maintain his help. At the end of day two Robert came by my job site and told his people that the way they a prior contractor had flashed part of my roof and some items on the previous siding project completed by another contractor was not correct. They took the time to correct other issues that was done by another contractor. That single incident told me that Robert has high standards and expects his crew to adhere to these same high standards. As a result of my experience I have no reservations in giving A-1 General Contractors, LLC my full recommendation. It was worth the rate to hire the best and they are very reasonable with their pricing.

J&J Contracting was extremely professional and did quality work at reasonable prices. They did many jobs for our home remodel that included constructing custom kitchen cabinets, replacing a barn roof, replacing the support columns on a wrap around porch to give it structural integrity, drywall installation, and plumbing.

I had a roof leak problem that I was chasing for months. Had several contractors look at it. James was the first one that got to the root of the problem quickly and efficiently. I again called him for another leak issue at a different property and he had the problem resolved within minutes. The second job was already worked on but never resolved. James was able to resolve it and even showed me what I could do to prevent further leakage. This is a man who is truly experienced and knows what he is looking at. No run arounds and absolutely honest. And the rates were very reasonable. This is a fellow who has all my blessings to grow and prosper. I fully recommend J. Cozze for your roofing needs.

We had an outstanding experience using K&T for some extensive work done to our house. We installed a new roof, new decks, siding and an integrated shed. Could not be more pleased with the workmanship and the professionalism. The house looks great and Kris was very accommodating to some scope changes. Always arrived when he indicated and the job was completed on time and on budget. Would use them again.

Todd was very responsive from the time of my first inquiry right though until job completion. I had a new roof and 18 windows installed. His prices were the best around for what I needed All work was performed on-time and faster than expected. Todd is very professional and a pleasure to deal with. Everyone remarked that it was one of the neatest roofing jobs they had ever seen. Not a nail or a shingle in sight. I couldn't believe how spotless my house was inside and out. Would recommend him to anyone who asked. I will be using Todd Miller Roofing and Siding angain. No need for me to shop around having found a company like this. Thank you Todd

First of all their job pricing is very reasonable. Right Choice has given me prices far below other contractor's quotes. Job quality is excellent. If there is ever an issue in my renovation, Jet brings it to my attention and asks me how do I wish to handle it !! I truly appreciate that. Prior to Right Choice I hired another contractor to do my roof and a section of the under roof was rotten. His crew never told me a thing but instead installed the new roof on to of rotten beams. This was a careless and unsafe situation. Had it been Chet, he would have told me of this situation and allowed me to let him fix it rather than cover it up like the previous contractor did. Chet's crew are phenomenal workers. Thus far I don't have one bad thing to say about Right Choice Contracting. They have met and exceeded my expectations. I highly highly recommend this company.

Reese Roofing installed a metal roof over our existing shingle roof and replaced an old skylight in the process. It was a great experience! From the beginning, I felt like Reese Roofing cared about what we wanted, and Brook went out of his way to show that. Reese Roofing was able to replace our roof in a day--in 20 degree weather! And they left the place spotless; you wouldn't even know they were there. All in all, it was a professional, courteous experience, and I'm very happy with the way the roof turned out.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
