- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?Make sure to do your homework when it comes to hiring someone to work on your home! I've seen and heard so many horror stories from customers who have been taken advantage of by contractors from extreme over charging to them taking a deposit and never returning to even start the job! I've also finished pretty many jobs for a customer that had a previous contractor start the job, ask for more money before the job is finished because they say the materials are costing way more than expected or that they had to fix a bunch of issues before they could do what was contracted but they show no proof of what was done, then they never come back or return phone calls. Most times it is either because they bid too low and halfway through realize that they aren't going to make any money off of the job so they take what's left for materials and go or they are on drugs and spend all of the deposit money before they even start! And many more issues I have seen! Also, do not give any deposit to a contractor without a signed contract in hand and a receipt for the deposit you do give. Never pay the contractor the full amount until the job is completed as agreed upon. And it's normal for problems and unforeseen issues to arise throughout a job, especially a larger remodeling project, but make sure that all changes, including extra costs, are in writing and agreed upon by both parties.
