LPC Catering and Concessions did such a great job catering my daughters wedding, when we needed a caterer for my husband's surprise 50th party we immediately wanted to use them. Once again, they were perfect. Listened to what I wanted, and delivered the meal on time and perfectly packaged. Ready to serve. We will be using them in the future for all of our catering events and highly recommend you give them a try for your events as well. Great job Mike!!

Eleven Courses did a wonderful job catering our wedding on Friday. Jim came up with a delicious personalized vegan menu for us, and he always responded to emails quickly whenever I had questions. On the wedding day, Chrissy was our catering coordinator, and she made sure we had everything we needed all night. I was also impressed with how quickly their staff was able to flip the room during cocktail hour since we had our ceremony and reception in the same place. Thank you!

I would recommend Stonehill Catering to anyone! From the first time we spoke till the very last min they were responsive, thoughtful and listened to the needs. Our wedding was scheduled for last year and we had to move it a whole year and they did with no problem. They go above and beyond to fit your needs and ensure you are getting what you want! My guests could not stop talking about the food that was served. Lastly they did a awesome job in ensuring that the bridal party was taken care when they returned from photos! Soleia's catered a graduation party for us recently for about 50 people. They did a wonderful job from nuts to bolts, visiting our home beforehand to see where and how they would lay things out, bringing staff to assist in setup both with their food and equipment and our decorations. That was a welcome surprise. The food was delicious and we received a lot of compliments about the catering. The cake that she baked was wonderful and again many compliments. They went out of their way to make everyone happy and worked very hard while they were there. We ate leftovers for a week! They also arranged for a tent, tables and chairs because I wasn't sure about the weather and I had many people tell me it was a perfect event. Overall, they did a wonderful job and I would highly recommend them.

I hired Colleen approx two years ago. She sat down with me the first time and asked about everyone's preferences in my family. She was extremely accommodating no matter what we liked or wgwt crazy diet I was trying. It was so helpful to me to have Colleen preparing meals as I worked full time, had 5 kids, and many sports. Her food was 5 star. My husband and I really enjoyed having her. We decided only to stop her service due to kids going off to college and no one really around anymore, two of us at most, sometimes one. We will certainly use her for any parties, etc. Colleen became a friend to me as well. Her skills as a chef are unsurpassed. She also catered my graduation party of 70 people alone. I had the ability to greet and talk to guests. She is the BEST.

Aside from delivering a delicious Thanksgiving menu for me and my 60 colleagues to enjoy, Brendon was an absolute joy to work with — a true professional. During our luncheon several people asked me to share the caterer’s contact information because the meal was THAT good. I look forward to using Liliahna Catering again in the near future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
