I cannot say enough of good things about Ione. We had her at couple of events, including wedding and baby shower. She is not only talented DJ, face painter and entertainer but also a great person to work with. She came up with list of songs for our wedding day and later helped us with karaoke to entertain guests who stayed late with us. At baby shower she helped us with decorations, balloons and face painting, that made shower more fun. Ione is very reliable, honest and easy to communicate. We are hope she would be available for our future parties.

For someone like myself who has had couple of parties, I thought I had seen pretty decorations UNTIL Classique Impressions slayed my event! The details were overwhelming! The dessert table set was amazing. The tables were beautiful. The entire hall looked so wonderful! To be honest, I didn't get what I paid for; I got way more! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Karen created all the flower pieces for my wedding, for the church and reception. Any idea I had, Karen could make it happen. Karen has designed flowers for me for bridal & baby showers, birthday and graduation parties as well as other celebrations. She is wonderful, creative, personable. Would not consider anyone else.

As the General Manager of the Inns on Bellevue, I enjoyed working with Michelle Ritter very much. She is a fast thinker, and was able to come up with some very clever ideas to give our rooms the face lift they needed. I would be happy to bring her back, or to recommend her for decorating projects. She repositioned furnishings and artwork, selected and ordered new furnishings for our hotel rooms and public spaces, and did so in a very timely manner. The feedback from our hotel guests has been very positive, and our online reviews have improved dramatically. Thank you, Michelle!

Pamela helped us through a whole house renovation. We purchased a house, built in 1865, in RI while still living in NJ. We hired Pamela to help us though some "minor" changes. Well, we fell in love with the house and the possibilities and ended up completely remodeling essentially every room. Pamela, guided us with her vision and had an A+ contractor she works with. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. We love it so much we've decided to make it our permanent home. We are looking forward wrapping up furnishing and decorating our home with Pamela's keen eye, particularly when picking colors. Vicky started a project to just help me furnish my bedroom. Her talent and work ethic was so impressive that I expanded the project to include the rest of my house. She guided me through getting out of my comfort zone for a few pieces but also listened when I had reservations. The result is a very modern decor that is functional and comfortable, especially with a toddler in our home. I get compliments from guests all the time. She also knows when it's ok to splurge and when to bargain hunt to make sure you stay within budget. She will be doing my kitchen next and I cannot wait to see what ideas she has for it. Hire her, best decision I've ever made!

Change is good. However, change is not always easy for some people! Let Linda be the one to make it easy and enjoyable for you! She has helped me transform a family room, a bedroom, a kids office, and she is currently helping me give a facelift to my dining room. When we first met, she took lots of pictures, asked me a ton of questions, and within an hour she had already had a sense for what I liked and didn't like. She is a joy to work with and has made such wonderful changes to our home! If you need a little help with decor or if you're looking for a complete transformation, Linda is the one for you! Since working with Linda, I now look forward to change.

Working with ChrisFête was absolutely amazing! The owner Christine was so attentive to all of my needs. Everyone knows how hectic planning a wedding can be and she was so calm and precise with everything she did. My wedding decor came out so beautifully and she really has a keen eye for details. People are still calling me, texting me, and posting all over social media how beautiful everything looked and that's all thanks to ChrisFête. I would recommend this company to anyone who's looking to have an event, party, or wedding and wants it to be nothing short of amazing. If your looking for something dull & lack luster then don't book ChrisFête, there's plenty of other companies for that! 10 thumbs up from me.

We hired Juliana, owner of Creative Interiors, on the recommendation from a person that we worked with. This person contracted with Juliana to redecorate the bedroom and living room in their home. They were thrilled with the results, and commented that Juliana did an exceptionally great job. When we renovated our home, Juliana and I went shopping for fabrics for new drapes for the house; new bed comforters; and fabrics for sofas and chairs that we wanted recovered. She is a wealth of information about decorating, and she brought us to shops that we would not have been familiar with without Juliana's help. We also went to an art gallery with her, and we bought a couple of prints and had them framed. Juliana was amazing with the help she gave us choosing frames that looked the best with the prints we chose. She put 100% into helping us redecorate our house. She came to our house and helped us hang the framed prints , explaining the lighting in the rooms and the pros and cons of putting the prints on certain walls. The results were beautiful because of Juliana. Another thing that we really appreciated about her is that she taught us so much about decorating. She explained everything to us as we shopped. No matter how many questions we had, Juliana always had the answers. Juliana is a kind and caring person. She is very easy to work with. She has unending amounts of patience, and accommodated all of our needs. Juliana never cancelled an appointment with us, she was always on time, and her help was invaluable. The characteristic in Juliana that we appreciate so much is her honesty. She never tried to persuade us to purchase anything we did not like. She insisted that we make the final decisions on all purchases. Juliana's words to us were: "At the end of the day, you live in the house and you have to be happy with it." We were happy when it was completed and we still are grateful that we met and worked with Creative Interiors.

We hired Adam/Advanced Production and Design for design/decorating/lighting for our daughter's outdoor tent wedding. I wanted a stately, high end look that was affordable. I presented pictures with my wish list and was looking for direction that would accomplish the look I was going for. Adam's professionalism and experience was apparent from our first correspondence. He guided me towards a design that was absolutely perfect for the look that I wanted to achieve. After receiving the proposal and deciding on the final design I had a 100% confidence that I had the right production company. The look was exactly what I wanted and more. It was the icing on the cake and in between!!! Not only was it absolutely beautiful but the ambiance he created set an amazing mood that was beyond my vision. I would recommending Adam and Advanced Production and Design to anyone looking for high quality service and design for any event they are planning. Thank you for your outstanding service and professionalism!! I hope we have the opportunity to work with you in the future!

My husband and I had a great experience working with Hannah. We recently moved into our first home and were unsure of what we wanted to do with the space. As our house is much larger than our previous home (but not a forever home), we struggled with which areas to focus on improving and how to prioritize purchasing furniture. We weren't sure what our "vision" for the space was, and she started by helping us tease through that, offering options without overwhelming us. Hannah was able to help us make selected improvements that had a big impact, focusing on common spaces and "high traffic" areas, recommending decorations and furniture that were both within our budget constraints and timeless enough to stay with us for years to come. I loved her small style suggestions that quickly transformed a room - even just placement of furniture or artwork. Hannah explained what changes would help make our home feel more finished and quickly helped execute, based on our personal style. I would recommend Hannah over and over - if you are looking for a full interior makeover or just a small space, she's able to translate her skills to whatever the task.

She helped piece together my brother's wedding from limited supplies and it turned out beautiful! She worked hand in hand with my brother, my sister-in-law and my mother to ensure that every little detail came to life in order to have a memorable and fun evening that everyone would remember!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
