Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Many music lessons focus primarily on technique, but I go beyond technique to teach how to express oneself through music. Singing or playing an instrument is ultimately muscle memory, and the ability to play fast or sing on pitch can be attained by anyone who has the patience and dedication to practice. For me, providing you things to practice is only the first step. My goal is for you to experiment, improvise, and find a place inside your music that your can thrive in. That place can be in learning to sing/play your favorite tunes, performing in front of others (karaoke, anyone?), writing your own music, or anything else. I want to help you find that passion, and guide you through collecting the tools and the know-how to excel at your musicianship. Seeing the "AHA!!" in the eyes of my students when they learn a new concept.

Courtney really helped me to expand my vocal range! I have a fairly low voice, especially for an aspiring rock singer, and Courtney helped me to comfortably and confidently access my upper register.

Courtney is an amazing musician and a wonderful teacher! Her enthusiasm for music is contagious. Courtney's widespread experience as a touring and recording musician give her a perspective that few teachers seem to have. I feel truly fortunate to have had the opportunity to study with her!

I highly recommend Courtney. She will make you feel comfortable from the get-go. She has everything I look for in a teacher. She's a great listener. She also has a gift when it comes to explaining the science behind the voice. I adore my voice lessons with her. She's helped me to improve my voice, and also has helped me gain confidence when I sing.

Courtney was just wonderful. She encouraged me to be patient in my own learning process. She let me lead the class by letting me share with her my uniques desires of what I want to learn. I felt I held her attention and her listening skills were excellent regarding my varied goals. She was also open to working around a non-specific scheduling of class time. I look forward to my next class with her! Sincerely, Gail G.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I don't remember a time when I didn't play the piano, or wasn't involved in music. I believe I was born with a knack for music, but I'm also grateful to my parents who (somewhat insistently!!) encouraged me to practice piano every day for twelve years. The skill and understanding I gained through my time as a piano student has served as a solid foundation for what I do and who I am today. I became a musician when I decided to go to Berklee College of Music, which to me meant that I won't have anymore "backup plans". Being a musician, making music, going on tour... I find that these are all things that are "easier done than said".

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Finding a good music teacher is similar to many other things you do in life, such as looking for a new apartment, or buying a car. You can go to one teacher and settle with that, or you can set up trial lessons with five teachers to figure out what you really enjoy and who you connect with the best. Instead of using profiles to figure out who the best instructor is, use it as a tool to see what the person's like. Credentials and past experience is important, but there are many styles of music, many styles of teaching, and many different musicians and teachers. Spend the time to find the right one, so that you can get the most out of your learning!
