We chose Greg from a number of professionals that we had interviewed to be the photographer at our Wedding in Connecticut. What really impressed us on the initial phone call was his energy and passion which seemed so evident even through the phone. What happens if it rains, we asked? He stated he would get a plastic bag, wrap it around his camera, and keep shooting! This was a twelve hour event and that fact did not phase him at all. Greg was on time, and we had actually asked him to come earlier then we originally planned, and he had no problem with that. Not only were the quality of the pictures beyond what we had hoped for, we were also very impressed with his level of energy and the multitude of angles and creativity he showed. He was very easy to get along with, would take whatever shots we wanted, but also had plenty of ideas of his own. During sunset, he asked us to come down to the treeline so he could get a shot of the sun over our shoulder. It was a beautiful shot and not one we had specifically asked for, which showed us that he really cared about what he was doing. Many of our guests commented during the wedding on how great our photographer was and once we started sharing the pictures everyone was even more impressed! We would highly recommend him to anyone and would definitely use him again if we had an occasion to. Jess and Patrick

We found Marc with only 2 weeks before our wedding. Marc was amazing to work with. Marc showed great communication prior the the wedding. Marc stayed out of the way durning the wedding while still getting a video of everything we requested. We highly recommend Marc to anyone looking for a videographer!!!

Photographs at the welcome and henna dinner for son's wedding. Ann-Marie was punctual, she took all the photos of groups and events that I had requested earlier and they look wonderful - very professional and captures our memories beautifully. Best of all, she sent them to me earlier than expected. A great experience working with her and recommend her highly.

For wedding october 8 2017: Alicia was extremely flexible (came in person to my apartment for our demo session and to the reception venue for the wedding) and accommodating, both in advance of my wedding and on the day of. My hair looked really good, and the service itself was exceptional. I highly recommend her services! Back in early 2017, when I was booking appointments for the wedding, when I was still unsure of how many people would want to get their hair done, Alicia advised me that I should reserve as many spots as I might need just in case so that she could plan to bring enough assistants with her. Specifically in our chat conversation, I asked her in march: "Also, if one or two of my bridesmaids or mothers don't want to get their hair done for whatever reason (for example, my friend Abbie has short hair and may not find it worth doing for whatever reason), would I be able to pay less for the second half, according to the number of people who end up needing their hair done? I would of course let you know ahead of time what the final count would be-- I just haven't had conversations with everyone involved yet about whether or not they'll want to have their hair done." She wrote in response: "Yes absolutely. So on the day of the wedding it would just get subtracted from the remaining cost." That reasoning made plenty of sense to me; so, when paying the deposit (equal to half the total balance), I estimated that ten people would want to get their hair done. That number included me, my maid of honor, and 6 bridesmaids, as well one extra slot (just in case a mother or grandmother wanted to get theirs done). I therefore paid a deposit for ten people, with the understanding (based on my conversation with Alicia) that if later we ended up needing fewer slots the balance that I owed would be reduced as needed. The deposit came out to $450. We scheduled an appointment for the hair demo, in which she would sketch out a plan for the hairstyle and test one out to see if I liked it. We originally scheduled a meeting for August 13th, but the week before Alicia emailed me to reschedule because she had a last minute wedding that she needed to help with. I was happy to reschedule, and I appreciated the advance notice. When we did finally have the demo, she made the whole experience effortless and fun. I knitted my own veil, which I would be using with a comb to make it stay in my hair, and we discussed various ways that the hair and veil could complement each other. I have naturally curly hair and it was important to me that my curls were treated with dignity (I've had a lot of bad experiences with stylists straightening out my curls and then re-curling them with an iron, which I was adamant that I did not want for the day of the wedding). Alicia did a really good job of tucking my curls into a beautiful up-do that I shared with all of my friends and family every chance I got. I was super excited. The week of the wedding Alicia talked over phone and through text, and as at that point I had heard back from most (but not all) of the wedding party and close family members about who wanted to have their hair done, I estimated that the full 10 slots would still be needed. We worked out a schedule (so that two people would be getting their hair done at one for every hour Alicia and her assistant were there). Based on what people told me, I estimated that at least 9 slots would be filled, while still waiting to hear back from 1 or 2 people who seemed likely to want theirs done, and I told her as much over the phone. Alicia was very helpful and accommodating during that whole process, even offering to help negotiate with my persistent mother-in-law who was bound and determined to get her make-up done. I really appreciated her flexibility. The weekend of, my wedding party helped draw out a schedule for people to get their hair done. Everything for the hair planning went very smoothly. Then, the night before the wedding, my grandmother backed out at the last second, deciding not to get her hair done after all, and one other person I had been waiting to hear back from finally responded, leaving us with two unfilled slots. Since every appointment time still had at least one person getting their hair done, I wasn't too worried, given my conversations with Alicia back in early 2017 when we discussed what would happen with unused slots. The day of the wedding, Alicia showed up right on time along with one other assistant. They set up in the hotel room that James and I were staying in, bright and early, and began working on the first set of people's hair. At that point, I told Alicia about my grandmother, and said that in total 8 of the original 10 slots were filled. Alicia went very quiet, and seemed conflicted about something-- she said "Oh, I see," and when I asked her what was wrong, she said, "No, it's fine. You worry about what you have to worry about-- you're the bride, you shouldn't be worrying about anything today." Still, that raised red flags for me because to my knowledge everything was exactly what we had discussed. I asked her again if something was wrong, and she said "I usually don't let people cancel at the last minute, because I don't want to pay to bring an assistant if the workload is something I can manage on my own. But it's fine." To my knowledge, at no point in the weeks leading up to the wedding -- not during the demo, nor during the logistics stage the week of-- did Alicia mention this policy to me. She was really nice about telling me that information the day of, but it did seem strange that the policy had never come up in conversation given what we had discussed about a possible situation in which not all the slots were filled. I do wish that had been made clearer in the beginning, because I would have gladly paid a smaller deposit in the beginning, or else would have told the wedding party as much so that I could get a more exact count. I think I liked my demo hair more than what I had for the wedding, but it still looked beautiful. I've attached photos below. I think, looking back on it, that I should have washed my hair early the morning of the wedding, because my hair would have been dry in time and that's what I had done for the demo. That would have made the curls easier to rejuvenate. I took advice from a friend that hair that has been washed recently is harder to style, but based on my experience I think it would have turned out fine and the curls would have been shinier and possibly required less hairspray. That was definitely outside of Alicia's control and not in any way her fault! Just thought I'd mention it in case any girls out there have my kind of hair. (By the way I really like the type of hairspray Alicia uses. It smells fruity and delicious!) All in all, I am very happy that I chose Alicia and that she chose me. There are a few things I would have done differently given the chance to do things again but I definitely would have chosen her every time!

Rob recently was the DJ at my wedding. I have to say the whole experience from start to finish was outstanding. Finding a DJ was an anxious process for my wife and I. We were nervous about how to find someone we would be just satisfied with. Rob was this and much more. From our first interview with Rob my wife and I felt we could have booked him from that moment. We had other interviews lined up but immediately following those interviews we new we were using Rob. It wasn't because the others were poor he just stood out. We had great back and forth communication up to the date and Rob delivered on all requests and concerns. One of my chief concerns was our music requests and music we had on the NO list. Rob was great with both. Our other chief concern was music volume and Rob deftly managed that throughout the night. It was a great experience start to finish! I cannot recommend him strongly enough!

We used Reverend Pete for our wedding yesterday. First, we were extremely satisfied with his asking-price, as we had a very limited budget and didn't know if we could afford a ceremony. Reverend Pete's service was top-notch from beginning to end. He worked with our hectic schedule and limited availability, he accommodated things like last-minute location changes, and the ceremony he conducted was great. Very personable and a joy to work with. Highly recommended. Thanks, Reverend Pete!

I Couldnt have asked for a better officiate for me and my husband's wedding. From our first meeting with him, to rehersal, through the ceremony itself, he was informative, patient, and reassuring. His words during the ceremony were thoughtful and personal. If I had to do it again today, I wouldn't change a thing.

They were affordable and very responsive to emails. The 3 girls we had the day of the wedding were fun to chat with. Most everyone's makeup held up but almost all our hair had lost its curl. I think we just needed more hairspray since it was a on again/off again rain day. My only big comment is that at the end it felt very rushed. They said they would touch up my hair/makeup at the end (since they insisted the bride go first in the morning) but at the end I turned around and all the chairs and make up was packed up. Other than putting on my lipstick last, there was no other "touch up" done. I wish I had inisted that they touch up my curls and put the veil in before they took off.

We could not have been happier with our experience with Sweet Pea Designs. Karen did an absolutely amazing job as our florist. She was always there to answer questions and give expert advice. She was able to see exactly what I described, and created the arrangements I was dreaming of. Also she worked with our budget tremendously and made sure our big day was absolutely perfect. The bouquets, centerpieces and boutonnières were made with an immense amount of talent and love. The flowers were fresh, arrangements on point and we received so many compliments on how elegant and gorgeous everything looked. I honestly cannot recommend Sweet Pea Designs enough and I am so glad we chose to work with Karen. :) Crisolita & Josh Wedding Date - June 2, 2018

Thank you so much, Mark, for a perfect night!! I would highly recommend Mark for anyone looking for a DJ to complete their event. Mark responded to my texts and emails within minutes. I explained the type of event it was to be, the type of music that would be most appropriate for the guests attending. As it wasn't a wedding, it was my husband's surprise 60th birthday party. So the music had to be tailored for an event such as this. He did exactly as I asked and put together a fabulous playlist, and also allowed the guests the opportunity to make requests. Additionally, there were many people that wanted to toast my husband, and Mark had available a microphone that could be used throughout the room. Lastly, his quoted price was more than fair. I would use Mark again for any upcoming events that my family should have. Again, thank you, Mark

Robert and Cheryl were a great team to work with. Their work was excellent, and they surprised us with some great candid photos. On my request to have group photos for our wedding reception, Robert followed us with every group, while Cheryl took pictures from a distance. The product was a combination of group and candid pictures, capturing our event very nicely. They were punctual, no hassle and easy to communicate with. They delivered on time and accommodated all our requests. Would recommend highly, and would definitely use them again.

Robin did both my makeup and hair for my wedding day and to say it was an amazing experience I think is an understatement. My makeup came out beautiful, along with my hair which held up until 4am the next day! She was so welcoming and really made my special day, that much more special. I couldnt have been any happier to have Robin as my stylist. As I'm sure every bride is worried that everything turns out perfect, especially when it comes to their hair and makeup, my stress was lifted after talking to her for awhile and her giving me honest opinions. Her confidence gave me a sense of relief. Needless to say I couldn't leave without friending her on Facebook! She's is without a doubt very talented.

I spoke with Samantha several times before my wedding date, and we met once before. She completely understood my vision and I was able to go into my wedding day with complete confidence she would be able to handle anything. Everything went perfectly (at least she made it seem that way) and she executed everything how I dreamed. She was professional yet extremely friendly the entire experience, she was a saving grace for my wedding!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
