We hired Glow cleaning for a “deep clean” of our house, they did a beautiful job! I don’t think my house has every been this clean. The cleaners did an amazing job, we have decided to hire them to come back on a biweekly basis.

We used Melo Carpet Cleaning to remove the pet stains from our wool rug. Our lovely pets had been pretty much using it as a litter box marking their territory. It was disgusting! Communication was clear. They picked up the rug and returned it good as new. I honestly couldn't beleive it! They did an amazing job. We couldn't be happier. Thank you!!

Darron was very helpful and cleaned up the carpet in no time. He even uses eco friendly products which makes it possible to use the area without having to wait for the treated area to dry. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get their carpets cleaned! :)

Lucy was so accommodating. She came after 7 at night and was a dynamo. She cleaned my very dirty bathroom which was worth the price alone. She cleaned my stairs, living room, dining room and kitchen. Very good job. So happy I found her. Will def use again!!

Great job- my only disappointment is that it is taking a lot longer than an hour to dry. I had the carpet cleaning finish an hour and 40 minutes ago and it is still very damp.

I have nothing but good things to say about Steam Plus Carpet Cleaning. We had purchased a used couch and the previous owner had a cat. You would never know this couch ever came in contact with a cat now. Also they cleaned the mattress on this sleeper couch. I will definitely use again.

Patrick @ New England Specialized has worked for our company for 4 years now. He always goes the extra mile to be certain we are getting the best value for our money. I cannot count the number of times I had additional request during a visit and I was not charged extra. New England Specialized policy is that you are paying for the hours the technicians are in your facility so if there is down time waiting for floors to dry etc they keep busy cleaning something else for you. That attitude is hard to find.

John was excellent. He cleaned both carpets in our recent apartment, removing both cat urine and candle wax, while educating us on the chemistry of carpet cleaning. He told us, if the cat stain resurfaces to call him. He kept his word and cleaned it a second time at no additional charge. I definitely recommend using Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning! Amazing work and amazing customer service. I can't thank him enough!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How do you find a good carpet cleaning company?

Regular professional carpet cleaning can both extend the life of your carpet and remove harmful pollutants from your home. Finding a good carpet cleaning company is an important aspect of home maintenance. When choosing a carpet cleaner, consider these top three questions:

  • What method of carpet cleaning do you prefer? Steam cleaning is an increasingly popular method because it’s thorough and safe, and dries quickly enough for you to return to your home the same day the carpets are cleaned.
  • Have you checked the company’s references? Most cities are home to several carpet cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to check their reviews and references. Look for references from people in your neighborhood with homes similar to yours.
  • What’s included in the base price? What other services does the carpet cleaning company offer? Some companies will move furniture for you, while others charge a fee for it. Some include stairs in the cost of the home’s cleaning, while others charge per step.

What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.
