I hired Aplus Tree Services to prune a large pine tree in my backyard. They did excellent work and I will definitely hire again for all my future tree needs. The process from receiving the initial quote to scheduling the work was easy. They were able to come out within a couple days of the quote. They communicated well throughout the entire process and did a super job!

Two workers came this week (right away) to do spring cleanup. Everything has been excellent so far. Much more to do: lawn mowing, mulch, pruning. I like the owner/project manager very much.

We hired Bello Jardín to do some pruning on our big maple tree and they did an outstanding job. They were very knowledgeable about how the tree should be trimmed back and even pointed out the current issues the tree has. After scheduling the work, they arrived on time and did everything we agreed on. They even cleaned up the whole area after they were done. Very pleased to have hired them. Definitely recommending and definitely hiring again!

James and Billy were terrific. They exhibited great professionalism in pruning two beloved trees in my yard: a huge linden and a spreading dogwood. James used his climbing skills to get to the top of the former. They also felled a very high ailing cedar. They worked nonstop for 6 hours and left my yard in impeccable shape. Another thing I should mention is that these two individuals, who have an impressive work ethic, also seem to be really nice people. It was a pleasure to have them here.

He also managed to schedule me within 3 days and we are very pleased with the results. We will be calling Medford Lawn Service back for sure! Here are a few before and after pictures

After doing a bit of research and speaking to several landscaping companies we chose Infiniti Landscaping to widen several planting beds, prune trees and shrubs, develop a new planting bed for a rose garden and to build steps into a hill. Steve did a masterful job in building the steps and had a lot of interesting ideas. All of the other work was done professionally and we couldn't be happier. The Infiniti crew is incredible, they can't do enough for you and they are knowledgeable and polite. The work took several days and before the crew left for the day they always cleaned up the work area. We had such a great experience with Infiniti that we decided to hire them do do another larger job for us.

Russell Stafford was quick to respond to our requests and plant questions. He did the pruning that we requested in a timely manner and he communicated well, even when we were away on vacation. His knowledge and expertise of the various kinds of plants in our yard was very helpful. We plan to have Russell back in the spring to do some more work for us, because we were very satisfied with the results.

Hi called Paul after he responded to my inquiry on Thumbtack about needing snow removal services. Our Dorchester condo parking lot was packed with snow and we needed it cleared out so we could resume a construction project that had been halted by the heavy snow. I called Paul on Thursday, and he showed up Monday morning as promised, with his Bobcat and dump truck. The job took 8 hours to complete, but at the end of it not just the large piles of snow were gone - they also removed the rock hard ice from our driveway, shoveled out the construction material that were buried in the parking lot, and helped me shovel out mounds of snow from around the base of the building. I was very impressed with his professional attitude and his helpfulness. I wholeheartedly recommend him to other clients.

Taught us the meaning of “neatening”, pruning, and featuring plants in our garden design. He removed plants which were crowding the design. We used leaf mold mulch. You will need to order twice as much, as it decomposes into soil rather quickly.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

      • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
      • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
